Spring was in the air. Dawn could smell it as the cool island breeze swept through the gardens to tickle her nose with sweet flowers and freshly cut grass. Oh how her wolf longed to run through the hills, to roll in the grass like a pup for a few hours. Instead she was stuck in her human form, still in mild pain after the attack on her life weeks ago. Her leg should have healed by now but the longer it took the more she knew that trap hadn’t been an average bear trap. It had been laced with silver and her body was still fighting its affects. Pursing her lips, she glared down at her limb as if she could will it to heal faster. Maybe she wanted it to heal faster for more than just her wolf’s need to roam around. Vaan was treating her like porcelain doll, barely doing more than brushing his lips against her when they were alone. It was slowly driving her insane.
She had no idea where the King was for a change. If he wanted to see her, he could seek her out for a change. There were plenty of well trained guards positioned around the palace and Vaan could handle himself, he was no pup after all. No, the Captain of the Guards was not needed right then. Slowly, it was becoming clear to her just how much she wasn’t needed very much around the palace. Henry was a grown male with his own problems to deal with; he didn’t need Dawn watching over him like she had when he was a child. Richard wasn’t the pup he had been, constantly following Henry around either. That male knew how to fight and fight very well due to Angel’s training. Vaan’s enemies were still out there, dying to take his place on the throne or steal his wealth, but he was well equipped to handle any threat. It would seem, the cold mothering Captain of the Guards no longer had a place in the palace.
Now, inside her chest beat a need to mate with the King and the more he gently nudged her away, telling her he didn’t wish to injure her farther because of her leg, the more she felt her own desires building up. If she had been any other wolf, she would have sought out a male to do the deed, there were plenty to pick from. However, Dawn was not Adrienne; she was not going to whore around when she couldn’t have her way. Oh no, Dawn was something far more of a force to be reckoned with. As the day began to slip away from her, the Captain began to realize something that made her slap herself in the head. Why was she waiting for Vaan to make the first move? Her mother would have been ashamed to see what sort of state the King had put her in do to his actions. Dawn was a proud lycan she-wolf. A pretty damn good looking one at that. Why did she have to wait for Vaan to make the first move after they both knew they needed each other? It was a little insulting to her sex as well. If she wanted to trap a wolf, she only needed to bait him into a trap.
Rising up from her seat in the garden, Dawn swiftly made her way through the palace. Night had fallen and the lights in the halls had been turned on leaving little trouble for her deep brown eyes from watching where she was going. Stopping at the library, she took a pen and some paper and wrote a short note before slipping it under Vaan’s office door. It was short and left hardly any information for someone to pick up on what she was talking about expect for the King.
With the note delivered, Dawn went back to Vaan’s chambers. It was truly a wonder there weren’t more rumors about they having slept together when she first started guarding him. But then again, she had always made sure to only go into his room during emergencies and normally never without another guard with her. She had never wanted to put Vaan in a situation that might cause a mistress of his to come after him for sleeping around or a potential queen to deny his proposal (if he had ever given one) due to her going into his chambers at her own will. Slipping out of her normal leather pants and corset which had become her normal uniform around the palace, she opted for something more feminine, a beautiful flowing white dress with simple white high heels to match. Did she mention that the dress was slightly transparent?
A knock to the door caused Dawn to walk over and open it to see the chef standing there with a cart of food to deliver. Seeing her in the white dress caused the male to stop and nearly fall over since it was so strange and rare to see the Captain in anything but a corset, not counting the times she attended parties at the King’s back. “The longer you stand there with that silly look on your face, the longer the food gets cold.” Smirking, she nodded for the chef to drop the food off on the table. Once that was done and the male gone, she sat down and sipped from her glass of sweet white wine while waiting for the king.

Your Highness,
I wish to dine alone with you tonight in your chambers. Please, waste no time in coming to see me. We have things to discuss.
Your faithful Captain,
Dawn Roseburn
