Nix sighed somewhat frustrated as she turned around in the mirror for the millionth time. To say that it was hard to find something to wear when she was pregnant with twins was an understatement. Not only was it too hard to find something to wear but when she did, it just looked like she was wearing a bag. Part of her wanted nothing more than to curl up in her bed with nothing but a bag of chips and some chocolate. Right now the young woman did not feel pretty at all despite the dress she had finally decided to go with. It was a crimson red corset like dress finding that it was one of the few she could wear now a day. With a few minor alterations it fit her well enough. Problem was that Nix still felt like it looked horrible on her. Growling to herself the young lycan woman smoothed out the dress before she put the final touches on to her outfit. Leaning into the mirror more, the young woman proceeded to put on some makeup that would match the outfit. Not that it would be seen very well through the mask she was going to be wearing. It wouldn’t be hard to identify her anyways given that she was pregnant and waddling around. Putting the last finishing touches to her outfit, the young woman slipped into a pair of flats before heading out of her suit. She was going to meet Drake there when he finally decided to get out of the garden and get dressed. She wasn’t worried, he would eventually show up, and it was better than not being there like her other mate. The fact that Gabe still wasn’t around was eating her up inside. She was wondering if she’d even see him again and that was killing her the most. The pups were due soon, or at least that was what the doctor had said given a general time frame of when they were conceived. Biting her lip Nix closed her eyes for a moment trying to push all the worries out of her mind for now. Once that was gone, she headed slowly down the hall towards where the masquerade was going to be held. Just before the doors, the young lycan put the mask on sighing before she stepped inside. The place looked great with how they had decorated the place. Taking it all in, Nix head to one of the windows figuring the little bit of fresh air coming from it could keep her distracted for a bit.

Throwing the invitation down on the bedside table, Bryan wanted to huff and go back to bed. A masquerade party to celebrate the Princes’ engagement when he wasn’t even going to be there to enjoy it. What a joke. For three weeks, the guards had been hunting the prince, trying to find even a hint of where he vanished to. One of the guards he often spoke to said they’d found Henry’s tracks that lead right up to the beach and straight into the ocean. For him, it had been one hell of a blow out at the engagement announcement dinner when it seemed Vaan learned of his son sleeping with Lady Adrienne. Trying not to laugh, his fingers worked the tie around his neck remembering every detail about that night. “Bryan, let me do that.” Looking up, he watched Vivien walk over to him coming out of the closet to fix his tie. His eyes skimmed over her smooth bare skin wanting to taste every inch of her, his wolf on the other hand rolled his eyes as if not seeing the appeal anymore. His wolf hadn’t been so bored with his mate when they first meet but over the years he’d gotten less and less excited by seeing her every day. His human side couldn’t explain it and his wolf didn’t want to talk about it. “You don’t wear ties enough to be able to handle one like this.” Rolling his eyes, Bryan was grateful for his height so his mate couldn’t see the motion. He was sure he loved her but sometimes the things that came from her mouth rubbed him the wrong way. “Yes dear.” He heard her chuckle before she leaned up to kiss his cheek right over the scruff of his beard. His hand rubbed over his jaw line, for a moment thinking he should have shaved before blowing that thought clear from his mind. If the court didn’t expect him to show up looking a little rugged then they shouldn’t have sent him an invite. “Are you sure you won’t come?” “I can’t stand court functions, not even for the Prince and future Princess. Go, you’ll have fun.” Bryan rolled his eyes as Vivien’s words not believing a single ounce of them. What would be fun about dressing up to stand around listening to music and sipping wine until midnight when he could make a respectful exit? His mate walked away to pick up his jacket and hold it out of him to slip on. “I’d much rather spend the night with you.” Bryan’s words held a deep heat behind them making Vivien smile while waving the jacket again as if to say she was getting impatient with him. Knowing he was stalling, he shrugged the jacket on, leaving it unbuttoned since the damn thing was snug around his shoulders. “I hate suits.” Sulking, he was ushered out the doors of their room after pausing for a short kiss. Entering the ballroom, Bryan had to admire how nicely the place shined. But the sight of the colorful mask and costumes made him roll his eyes once again before slipping his over his face. His wolf snored in his mind, already tired and happy to leave. However, he couldn’t be that rude so he relucantanly went farther inside trying to find a quiet place to spend the night. Finally, a bare spot near a window called to him. However, as he leaned against the wall trying to will a servant to bring him a drink, he caught sight of the bright crimson dress and the scent of the Lady Phoenix out of the corner of his eyes. “It’s not very nice to show up the bride to be, Lady Phoenix.” His words were sincere as his eyes roamed up the lady’s legs to her swelling belly to the top of her breast to finally stop at her eyes.

Getting over to the window wasn’t that hard but Nix was quite glad she hadn’t worn heels. It was already hard getting herself up half the time but with heels her feet would probably have hurt a hell of a lot more than they did now. Wearing a pair of gladiator flats was the best option. Pushing the window open slightly, Nix closed her eyes letting the cool air wash over her, finding it had a great calming effect. Her blue eyes close for a moment as she allowed a bit of peace to wash over her. She missed being able to go outside and run around. Her wolf was already itching to get out and it didn’t help that just about every little thing seemed to frustrate her these days. Not being able to change with her mate and enjoy a run in the forest was the only downfall of being pregnant. It made her wolf that much more frustrated and closer to the surface causing the young woman to snap and growl more often than before. Granted with her temper, it happened more frequently than it should had she had better control of her wolf.
Not having Gabe or Drake around right now meant she had to find other ways to keep herself calm. Usually the mere presence of her mates helped calm whatever was boiling to the surface however right now; she needed to do that herself. Keeping her wolf at bay along after so long wasn’t easy and she hoped that Drake would arrive soon enough. That is if he didn’t get caught up in his work only to forget the event. After all it wasn’t everyday that the prince was celebrating an engagement. Having known Henry for a great while now, it was still a surprise he had managed to find someone to settle down with or find a woman that would be in the room with him for longer than a minute or a quick shag. Nevertheless they were celebrating and Nix knew she had to make an appearance. Granted she did have a wonderful excuse to leave early because of the twins. A slender hand fell onto her stomach as she thought about her pups, her eyes opening while she looked down. It wouldn’t be long before she could finally hold them in her arms. So far things were going well with everything.
While leaning against the wall Nix caught a few new scents around her ones she didn’t really care much for seeing as they weren’t Drake. However, her attention was taken off staring out the window she was standing beside, when someone spoke, their statement directed at her. It wasn’t hard to figure out who was speaking to her given that his scent was quite strong with how close he was. Masks might be a great disguise but it really didn’t seem needed given how one’s wolves could easily determine who was who. Tucking some blond hair behind her ear Nix turned herself towards the speaker, her eyes falling on a familiar figure a light laugh escaping her at his statement. “Surly I can’t help it if I have better tastes then the bride to be.” She replied despite not having seen the brides outfit yet. It was only a tease showing that Nix knew despite her being pregnant she was still quite appealing. “Fortunately, no matter what anyone wears today, all eyes will be on the bride to be.” she added a small smile on her face as she looked at him. “Traveling alone tonight?” she asked curiously not seeing the man’s wife with him at this point.

As the window was opened, Bryan took in a deep breath of fresh air that rushed into the warm room that was heating up from all the people in it plus the dancing was generating a furnace amount of warmth around the dance floor. There was a big reason he wasn’t a fan of large gatherings, between the stiff tie around his neck and the people brushing against each other it was all too unsettling and uncomfortable. The lord was much more comfortable relaxing with a few close friends with a glass of whiskey in his hands while talking about a light conversation which has nothing to do with court or cases for a few hours. His wolf barked a laugh clearly amused by his attempt as acting normal when a brutal beast lurked beneath his skin. A beast he has spent most of his life controlling, hiding the evidence of his deeds done to that family everything he could to come off as a lazy beta under the Chancellor.
Allowing his eyes to travel away from Lady Phoenix, Bryan nearly cried out in joy as a servant walked by carrying a tray of champagne. Alright, it wouldn’t really curve his beast’s growing lust and whispers to do something completely despicable but alcohol was alcohol. Taking a flute glass, he sipped from it, struggling not to growl at the drink’s poor attempt to hush his brother wolf. Of course, he couldn’t get wasted for fear of giving into his wolf’s sweet whispers. Placing a hand on the servant’s shoulder, he stared the man down since he never believed in sinking down to anyone’s eyelevel to bring them reassurance. “Get me a glass of whiskey on the rocks.” The servant seemed trance fixed in the spot, baffled by the request to the point Bryan reached up to the bridge of his nose and squeezed. “Move now.” The words were raw, his wolf surfacing behind his dark brown eyes feeling a rush as the servant quickly scrambled away to do as requested.
Chuckling at her words, Bryan leaned against the wall but was turned more towards Phoenix than anyone else in the room. So far, she was about the only interesting person in the room. No, he took that back. The only interesting person his wolf could handle being around without snapping out at her. “We’ll just have to see what she’s wearing when she arrives with Prince Henry.” The moment those words rolled off his lips, he had to struggle not to laugh after learning that Henry was missing for the past three and a half weeks. Of course, there was a slim chance the boy was back. “Clearly my eyes aren’t on the bride.” Offering a cheeky smile, Bryan raised his glass to Phoenix in a salute. Her presence wasn’t calming his wolf, if anything he even more eager to spring free to cause some madness in the middle of the masquerade.
“Vivien decided against making an appearance tonight.” It wasn’t that strange to find Bryan without his mate most days. He could feel the ripple that had been building between them; it all had started that night with that one boy. Mentally, he shuddered at how much anger had built up in him from his mate’s accusation. His wolf didn’t love her but he hadn’t appreciated being called some lazy ass male that used for her sex. Of course he used her for sex but his human side did enjoy her company most days. “Dare I ask where are your mates?” It had always intrigued him that one she-wolf could take control over two males; then again, it was Nix he was pondering this about so it shouldn’t have amazed him so much.

Nix couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow as she watched Bryan almost attack the waiter when he came back with a tray. There were several wondering around the room holding different drinks giving them out to everyone who was attending. Normally Nix would be all for a drink, grabbing herself a glass of champagne the moment that she had stepped foot into the room. However, given the circumstances of the situation that little bit of fun was not for her. At least not right now maybe in a couple of months she could. Right now however, the young lycan was waiting for a waiter with water to come out. If not she’d have to venture out of the area to head to the kitchen to get something. Despite how much walking that would require, Nix wasn’t too sure if it was a good idea. However there was the plus side of being out of the area and not having to listen to the gossip and whispers. Yes this was about the Royal couple however, there were still people in court who loved to gossip about anything and everything they could get their hands on. With Nix being alone tonight, it might stir some gossip.
The young lycan couldn’t help but watch as the waiter scurried off to get the man what he had requested. No matter whom her family was, Nix hadn’t ever really considered anyone to be above or below her in status. She tried to treat people the same or as much as she could. Some of them didn’t let her, like Margaret the cook who has been with her family since she could remember. The woman was adorable but no matter what she wouldn’t let her be treated as anything but what she was a servant. “Desperate much Lord Vulpe.” she questioned her eyebrow quirking up as she did a small smile on her face. Why he needed a drink right now she would never know, but the young Lady of Fairnix could only assume it was his need to be elsewhere. Most men weren’t that fond of being at events like this. The only reason she could think was either because their mate dragged them or their parents who were attempting to find them a mate. When the waiter came back, Nix smiled at the guy asking him for a glass of water or something none alcoholic. “I am sure once the bride to be arrives; she will have everyone’s eyes on her even yours Lord Vulpe.” she added rolling her eyes despite the smile on her face.
It was nice to know that despite being pregnant, big and waddling like a penguin, she was still considered somewhat attractive to the opposite sex. Drake did tell her he still found her attractive, even more turned on by being pregnant but she figured he was a biased opinion in the matter. He was her mate and husband meaning unless he wanted to sleep outside or on a couch of rocks, he’d tell her what he knew she’d want to hear. Outside opinions on the other hand were fair game and right now she was feeling a little bit better. It seemed her attempted at stuffing herself into a dress weren’t in vain. “It’s a shame your mate decided against attending tonight, I bet you’d make an attractive accessory to her outfit.” she added playfully thanking the waiter when he finally brought her back a glass of water. She took a sip and sighed, glade it was actually cool and not warm.
The next question, Nix hadn’t expected but knew it would come out eventually. The question as to where her mates were tonight was one that rubbed her the wrong way. An anger slowly started to boil over her as she took a moment to compose herself. Had she not been wearing a mask, the irritation would have been quite obvious of it. “I’m sure you have already heard the latest court gossip about my mate and are well aware of where he is. I’d have thought you had enough manners not to bring up the subject.” she snapped her eyes glaring into the older lycan as she spoke. Drake was supposed to come meet her here once he was done work but part of her doubted that he would make an appearance. Swallowing hard, the young woman kept her eyes on Bryan not willing to show him she was battling a roller coaster of emotions. One moment she could be angry as ever, and the next she’d want nothing more than to sob. That was the way her emotions were going right now. “If you must know Drake will be here once he has finished his work.” she stated trying to be as convincing as possible.

Glancing at his watch, Bryan wanted to groan seeing that even though he had arrived late it was still early in the evening. It was far too soon for him to make his exit out of the great hall without seeming like a stuck up prick. He was more than eager for the young couple to make their appearance so he could give them the proper respect by speaking to them for a few seconds before leaving. Gatherings of this type were never the highlight of his life. They’d only ever served to bring a pounding headache between his eyes every time he had to fake a smile or chat about the actions of the other five houses or the court nobility. At least with Vivien being absent he didn’t have to do as much talking as if she were clinging to his arm to speak to as many lycans as possible.
“Actually, I’m not. Not my fault if some can’t tell the difference between a light touch and a hand trying to pull them apart.” Staring into Lady Phoenix’s eyes, Bryan made sure she could see the hint of his wolf awakening in his body. The touch had been completely light but the servant seemed to have freaked the moment he’d seen it was Lord Bryan making a request. Of course, he preferred that people feared him instead of getting close. He didn’t want to be responsible if his wolf leapt out to attack and they got in the way. There were far too many innocence lives on his hands, more than he was willing to confess. His eyes turned to watch the server scurry away after taking the Lady’s request along with his own. Maybe he was so terrible to people because of his own family. The Vulpe weren’t well known for their warm feelings to anyone. It was a poor excuse but a good fraction of a person’s personality was based on family ties, no matter how hard someone might try to break apart from them.
“Hmm, possible, Lady Phoenix, but I’ve seen Lady Elina around the palace already. She’s attractive enough but she’s missing something in my opinion.” Smirking, Bryan leaned against the wall turned slightly so his body was in the direction of the lady instead of away. Lifting his arms, he crossed them over his chest in a defiant stance but it was more to keep his hands occupied while waiting for the drink.
Groaning under his breath about the remark about his mate, Bryan nearly shuddered knowing just what he’d be doing if she was there. It would be one of those nights he would pass out the moment his foot stepped into their suite. “I fear if my mate was here I wouldn’t be able to get a moment to stand still.” Vivien was the type of person to want to talk to just about everyone she could. At times it almost seemed like she was the hostess of these stupid royal events. But that was his mate, the social butterfly, the she-wolf that was always eager to meet new people. She was the complete opposite of him. He was more than content standing in the background watching the courtiers dance around, mingle, and find new reasons to hate the one lycan that managed to steal the spotlight for the night.
As the waiter brought their drinks, Bryan nodded at the man while taking his glasses. His lips sipped the whiskey, savoring the rich spicy flavor that trickled over his tongue before burning the back of his throat as he swallowed. Oh yes, the alcohol pushed back his wolf and the tempting whispers he kept murmuring in his ear. Sometimes, it would have been nice to have a brother wolf that wasn’t so bloodlust filled.
“Not every lord listens to pointless gossip passed from one courtier’s mouth to another. I do have other things to do with my spare time.” There was no holding back the deep snarl that rumbled from Bryan’s lips at Lady Phoenix’s assumption that he paid attention to what others whispered around him in court. Glaring at the pregnant lady, he had to kick his wolf down in order to prevent the beast from snapping out at her. Suddenly, even the whiskey wasn’t holding back the breast within his body. It was strange…how long had it been since his wolf had wanted to lash out like that? Had it really been over two hundred years? Over two hundred years since he’d nearly cut open Vivien’s throat for trying to say he used her like some slave? That thought was going to require another drink as he took a long gulp from the glass.
There were clearly a dozen different emotions passing over Lady Phoenix’s face as the small question of her mate’s location. It seemed he had really struck a sore subject. “Until then, I’ll keep you company.” Chewing on a piece of ice, Bryan swirled the amber liquid around allowing the other bits of ice to clank against the edges. His eyes stayed fixed on her watching for any other fun sparks to fly off her body.

Nix was finding it hard not to think about where her mate was. She knew that Gabe would not be attending the event. He had been missing since before she got pregnant, and he had yet to make an appearance. She was devastated to say the least; however the young woman tried not to show that part of her. It was private and only Drake and her maid had seen her softer more caring side. The side where she let her defenses down, where her growling was soft and where tears tended to spill freely. It was only seen to those she trusted the most and only behind closed doors. Kaitlin had never said a word to anyone about what happened in her private life to anyone. She was grateful to have such a friend knowing she could do and say anything to the young woman without fear of having it get around. There had been several occasions where Kaitlin could have simply let things slip however, the young woman hadn’t said anything yet and it was one of the reasons why Nix kept her around and close to her. No one had known about the rift between her father and herself. Of course it wasn’t a secret that he wasn’t a fan of her mates, however, in public they had acted as if nothing was wrong. In reality, their relationship had been drifting apart for years now.
Gabe’s actions had gotten out as a result of the woman who had slept with. She still didn’t know what to do about that and it didn’t help that Gabe was not around to even talk to. Now it seemed that the closer she got to having the pups, the further Drake was pulling away from her. That merely made things worse and with her hormones being all over the place, it didn’t help matters that at the mere thought, she would burst into tears. Right now, while in the hall amongst a crowd of people, Nix felt the need to cry but she knew it would be the death of her if she did. It didn’t help watching the happy couples around her enjoying themselves while she stood there alone, neither of her mates wanting to be around her. Nix focused on the commotion that Bryan had seemed to cause with his hold on the waiter. He was quite spooked but Nix didn’t see why. She had known the man for most of her life and didn’t fear him at least not right now. So far, he hadn’t shown her a side of him that scared her. Granted it did take a lot to scare the young lycan. “Perhaps a far lighter touch next time, maybe even a simple word to catch his attention instead of a laying a hand on the poor man.” she offered a hint of teasing in her voice as she smiled behind her mask. She couldn’t let him see that she felt like doing nothing more than leaving and going to her room to sob for a good few hours or until she simply fell asleep.
Sighing, the young woman let out a shaky breath before turning herself towards the window finding the room to be far too warm for her liking right now. Why was it that she was suddenly getting extremely hot she didn’t know? Swallowing, she fanned herself a bit hoping it was a moment of change due to her pregnancy. Hearing his words on Lady Elina, Nix couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow curiously at the older man. “You’ve caught my curiosity, what might she be missing, in your opinion at least?” she questioned glad to have the company with her right now. If not, she’d be simply standing against the wall all alone while other simply talked around her. Before she could get much of response to him regarding his wife’s need to chat with everyone, she was faced with a deep snarl from the man she was currently conversing with. This surprised her as she hadn’t meant anything in her comment. Taking a sip of her drink, Nix took a moment to let the liquid pass hoping it would cool her off a bit. “Forgive me, I misspoke. I meant that you’d be well informed through your wife. Given how much she enjoys chatting with the other members of the court, I am fairly certain she would mention it to you at one point, whether or not you were listening to her. I am well aware that most men do not care much for court drama’s or gossips.” she explained knowing how Drake and Gabe were when she was talking with someone and they started mentioning things about the court.
Setting the glass she had been drinking from down on an empty tray that a waiter was carrying, Nix sighed staring out the window for a good moment as she tried to push the lack of mates around her out of her head. “Thank you…” she whispered to his comment about keeping her company until then. He didn’t have to even talk to her, yet he seemed to still be there despite the odd topics of conversation they were currently upon. Crossing her arms over her chest for a moment, the young lycan held herself protectively before shuddering and turning towards Bryan for a moment. “I think I need to step outside for a moment. It’s far too warm in here. Care to accompany me outside for a walk, Lord Vulpe?” she asked curiously figuring he’d probably say no. He might be okay with standing there talking to her but this required movement and actually doing something. Had she not found herself extremely warm all of the sudden, Nix would have remained where she was. However, her body’s temperature was quite high right now and her emotions were somewhat fluctuating. Air was something she needed even if it was to push the urge to sob away.

ooc: for the outfit, the vest, pocket handkerchief and tie are the same color as gold of the mask, the shirt is the same red as the mask, the jacket and pants are same color as the picture.
Drake always seemed to lose track of time when he tended to the gardens. It was his safe haven, the one place he could go and get his mind off everything while hacking and nurturing plants. Day after day for the past four months he had been spending a good portion of the day out in the gardens just so he would keep himself from going off to hunt down his idiot of a brother for some answers. Nix was still worried sick about Gabe, he was too, and there were some nights where he heard her crying because of the stress. Obviously the lycan was smart enough to not let this be known in case he was wrong and it was just her hormones going crazy, but he worried about how well his mate was actually holding up. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that the turned lycan realized that wolves mate for life, therefore they were bound to each other until death or they renounced their bond.
Thinking about bonds forged by marriage and mates overwhelmed his thoughts as he moved from the small herbs and vegetables to the fruit bushes and trees. Pruning was easy and he never needed to pay much attention to what his hands were doing because of habit and years of working in a garden. So he focused on the fact that there was a high probability that his brother – the same man he shared a womb, a room and a mate with – might not actually be bonded or mated to Phoenix. Merely thinking about telling pregnant Nix about his thought scared the man to death. Even the wolf inside him cringed at the idea that Nix would find out and take her feeling out on him. Unfortunately Drake knew that his was probably the case since he was able to tell when his mate needed him around because of their bond. If Gabe shared the bond with them he would always be there for Nix but he never came running back once her emotions went high upon learning about the pregnancy. Nor did he run to her side in the past when she was losing her temper or upset. No his brother was never attentive of Nix unless he wanted her around. Having his bond with Nix was always helpful when it came to her being upset or pissed at others in the court because he knew how to act around her. Unless he was so focused that the bond being pulled was only a ticklish feeling at the back of his mind, as it was now.
Hours passed before he finally stopped finding that there were no more vegetable or fruits needing to be pruned. The sun was setting by that time and he realized that all the staff had left the area. People were rushing past him wearing masks and ball outfits. Seeing them meant nothing other than another ball was happening, that is at least until he reached the suite he shared with Nix. Two things alerted him that he was either late or missing a very important event, one was that Nix was nowhere around and she left no note for him. The second was that hanging on the bathroom door was his tuxedo for the masquerade ball along with his mask tied to the hanger. Realizing this caused the wolf inside him to whine from having to get dress in constricting clothing and growl at the fact that he nearly forgot about the ball. In a frenzy Drake peeled his dirt and soiled clothing off and jumped in the shower while hoping that Nix would not get frustrated at him for being late and nearly missing the whole event. As soon as he was out he pulled on his tuxedo and his Italian shoes before gelling his hair back and tying on his mask. A quick glance at the mirror let Drake know that he was presentable so he rushed out of the suite and hurried towards the main hall of the structure for the ball.
Upon arriving he smiled and waved to a few people who were whispering, trying to figure out who he was, while searching around for his beautiful mate. Spotting her was easy since he already knew what she would be wearing as well as her scent and the fact that she was nearly nine months pregnant. “Nix I’m so sorry that I’m late, I lost track of time in the garden,” he apologized while approaching her with an innocent smile on his face. The fact that a man was standing beside her was none of his concern so he merely nodded a greeting his way while waiting to hear what his mate had in store for him being late. [/color][/blockquote]

Nix felt herself getting even more heated in the room. Whether it was her costume or the increasing amount of people in the room, Nix couldn’t stand being in the room at the moment. Part of her knew that it was because there were several people talking about her lack of company right now. It was one of the reasons why she wanted to get out of the room for now. Not only that but Nix’s emotional roller coaster was making her not only pissed but hurt at her mate for not showing up. She knew that Gabe wouldn’t be attending the event however Drake was still around. At least she thought he was but right now it seemed like he might not be. Despite the problems she was having with her mates, Nix never jump to the conclusions that they might be cheating on her. However, with what happened with Gabe, the young woman found herself turning to that thought more and more. What if Drake found himself another mate? She knew that sharing her with his brother wasn’t that easy of a task but it seemed to have worked out for them for a good couple of decades. Now things just started to fall apart.
The young woman had started thinking about how selfish she might have been asking both men to make that kind of sacrifice for her. It was eating away at her and she didn’t know what to do about it. The only thing that came to mind at the time was running off home to hide. It was why she had gone to her father’s home or her childhood home for a good part of her pregnancy. Her excuse being that she wanted to make sure she got rest and no one could rest in court. The place was far too stressful half the time. Biting her bottom lip Nix fanned her face for a moment with her hand before taking a long sip of the liquid in her glass. Setting it down, she tugged lightly on the fabric of her dress before casting her blue eyes on Lord Vulpe whom she had just asked for an escort outside for some air. It was better than heading out there alone and he seemed to be of good company for now.
Before she could get an answer however, a figure approached them in a hurry. Nix automatically knew it was Drake the moment his scent reached her nose. She didn’t know whether to yell at him for coming so late or to walk over to him and cry on his shoulder for no good reason what so ever. Her hormones were making her emotions hard to control at the moment. Swallowing hard, she tried to compose herself at least for now. “Well now you can enjoy the masquerade while I head outside with Lord Vulpe for a walk.” she told him her voice hitching for a moment as she continued to try and keep her emotions stable. At this point she wanted nothing to do with Drake, yet she didn’t want him to leave her side at the same time. It was such a rollercoaster of emotions it was a wonder she wasn’t a blubbering mess right now. The young lycan could hold herself quite well even with her emotions being all over the place. Without waiting for an answer from either of the men, she excused herself before heading towards the door. It would have worked better had she not been almost nine months pregnant with twins however, she managed to slowly make her way towards the door. Smiling at the guard by the door, she excused herself once again before grabbing the bottom of her dress as she headed down the stairs and out into the court yard.

This was something Raphael normally avoid, a social gathering where all the members of the court would be present, mingling and chatting with whoever they bumped into. The beta would be the one avoiding everyone, hiding in a corner glaring at anyone who glanced his way.
He was only doing this for Eva, and only her. She had wished to meet others and dance with her mate, him. Dressed in finery that Lucian had promptly ordered the black suit with silver-embroidered around the edges, along with a simple mask which covered only his eyes and nose. To put it bluntly he felt stupid dressed in clothes that suited a lord not a lowly beta such as he.
In his corner, he waited watching the lingering couples around him, where was Eva? She had sent him off early, wanting time alone to dress and surprise him. Eva would look breath-taking in whatever she wore, his goddess and love in whatever colour she had chosen for this particular evening.
One individual caught his eye, Bryan Vulpe but he was not alone. The man who had prevented him from making the worse mistake of his rather short life. Raphael had very nearly cheated, nearly let his brother wolf led him astray into the arms of another she-wolf, an insane former royal she-wolf. He would not move, just watch like hawk until his almost mate arrived.

Eva sent Rafe off to the masquerade early. She knew it would take her a little more time to get ready. Especially with how heavy with pup she was right now. She had to get a little help with a couple of things, but not with shoes. Not today. She managed to find herself some pretty slip ons that she could just step right into. No straps or cinches or anything. Just something that would go on easily that wasn't a flip flop. She just hoped her feet didn't get too swollen to get them off.
Eva was due any day now. And Rafe had been very reluctant to let her out and about in such condition, but she was so tired of being stuck in bed day after day. She wanted to get out and have a little fun. She promised Rafe they would not stay long. She knew her limits. She just wanted to get out of their room for a while. She spent the last month on bed rest by order of Dr. Alder. He gave her the go ahead last week to enjoy themselves at the masquerade if she agreed to take it easy. She had. So they wouldn't stay too late like many others would.
To be honest, Eva wasn't sure how long they really would stay. Her back was bothering her today, a lot more than it usually did. She didn't say anything to Rafe though because she knew he would get worried and then he would make her get right back into bed. She wanted to go out and have a little fun for a bit.
She waddled through the halls towards the great hall, smiling as the music for the ball began to rise and fall through the halls when she grew nearer. When she entered, she smiled, looking around for a moment before she finally spotted Rafe. She smirked softly, watching him thoughtfully for a moment. He still looked displeased to be here, but she ignored it as she waddled her way to him. If things had gone his way, the two of them probably would have been held up in a cave somewhere like real wolves. She smirked softly at the thought as she came to hid wrapped her arms around him softly. "What's the best way to wipe that pout off those handsome lips, mon loup?" She asked him sweetly as she brushed a kiss over his cheek, being careful of her mask.
