It had been a rough few days, a week or had it been two since the incident in the woods with Lord Frederick and his daughter Jasmine. He had ripped the girl to pieces and didn't want to even think about the other traitor Xavier was more worried about his mom and how she was doing. His fur still smelled of blood and he hated that, his sleep hadn't been a great one since he still would wake up to smelling blood thick in the air, see it over and over in his dreams or throw up when any bloody scent hit his nose. He had been grounded by his mom for not listening to her and didn't know how long he would be grounded for. Xavier was helping to take care of his mom and keep her from over doing it. There was so much happening to him that he needed someone to talk to about but he didn't want to bug his mom. He was still hoping his wish for a family again would come true and that he would have a pack to be apart of.
Xavier hadn't gotten hurt during the attack just a bit bruised but those were fading quickly. He had stayed with mom much of the day since the King was in a meeting about something he didn't have a clue what it was about but it was none of his affairs either really. Just happy that his mom was healing and that she wasn't crazy angry with him. He was in the main hall in his wolf form resting his paws Xavier sighed softly, his showers were helping take away the scent of Jasmine's blood but it wasn't soon enough for him. For him Dawn was the closest thing he had ever had to a mom and had told her that, the fact was King Vaan was the closest thing he had ever had to a father that went to Henry, Elina, Rachel and Richard were the closest things he had ever had to siblings. He never wanted to loose that it would kill him.

Restless, that’s what Dawn was. Crossing her arms over her chest, she stared up at the ceiling while laying still in the large king size bed under the cream colored silk sheets. Her eyes skimmed over the wooden boards that crossed over each other before focusing on the chandelier that sparkled from the sunlight entering the room. It would have been a very calming sight if she hadn’t been looking at the same damn fixture for the past two days. Huffing, she turned on her side to look out the window and instantly got a nose full of Vaan’s scent along with a stinging pain from her bad leg. Cursing multiple different phrases in Spanish and English, she rolled once more to end up completely on Vaan’s side of the bed but now on her good side, the one that hadn’t been injured aside from a few bruises. Sighing, her sight rose up one of the red columns with it’s gold detailing that encased the bed. Feeling the urge to scream, Dawn sat up. She was Captain of the fucking Guards, not the Queen. Not the Mistress. Not a noble woman. So why was she stick in Vaan’s bed like some sickly woman without an ounce of common sense to her? Because Vaan had sweet talked her into listening to his one small request. Damn that man for knowing just how to butter her up when she wanted to pitch a fit. Reaching up, her hand untied the bandage around her upper arm to inspect her skin. Her nail tenderly ran over the minor scar that was left from the arrow before nodding, it would be gone in probably a few more hours. A knock on the door had her glance up and arch an eyebrow. Vaan wouldn’t knock and Xavier’s knock wasn’t that shy. She ruled out Elina having already seen her that morning when she had joined her for breakfast. Henry had popped in not too long after Elina had so there was no reason to suspect it to be him either. Another knock followed making Dawn sigh heavily in annoyance. “Enter.” “My lady, your lunch.” A very familiar form walked into the room carrying a tray of a medium rare steak, cooked broccoli, a green apple, and cookie dough ice cream. It wasn’t the same female servant that had brining her meals for the past few days. “Thought you might like to see a different more familiar face for a change, Captain. Not every day I get the chance to help a beautiful woman.” The lycan in question, Carter, was one of the many guards she had trained and had maintained her cold persona around. He placed the tray on the bedside table while sitting down on the bed, invading her personal space. That caught her wolf’s attention making her eyes flash a bright golden brown while growling deeply. Dawn despised being waited on hand and foot. She hated staying in bed because they all thought she was far too fragile all of a sudden. Who did everyone think she was? She had faced lycans, vampires, and hunters sometimes in packs and waves. She had never once been defeated and suddenly now that Vaan had an interest in her, she needed to be babied?! Growling low under her breath again, she wanted to pull out her hair and scream. For once, her wolf wasn’t being a docile little puppy even with Vaan’s scent heavy in the room. Under her skin, her sister wolf was eager to move around, hunt, run, do something! Carter raised his hand as if going to touch Dawn’s cheek but she quickly jerked her face away before his fingers got too close. “Get out, now!” Snarling, she was ready to cut open his throat for presuming she needed anything from him. The guard seemed to finally snap out of whatever had overcome his better senses and jumped off the bed, nodding. “Yes, Captain.” Carter quickly left the room, shutting the door behind him. Dawn took a deep breath in trying to calm her wolf but Carter’s scent hung in the room, clouding over Vaan’s. Wiggling back under the covers, she buried her face in Vaan’s pillow wishing she knew what he was doing…and where was Xavier? Her wolf wanted to make sure her pup was ok.

Feeling blue, Vaan held his head in his hands seated in his throne, this one smaller than the one within the throne room. Twenty four hours had passed but still the blood lust were there lurking beneath the surface. His revenge had been fulfilled but still the wolf wanted more.
Lord Frederick and his daughter were dead, laying in the forest in pieces that was something that needed to be dealt with soon. He would have send something to collect the pieces and bury them. It was right thing to do even though the part did not deserve the right.
The image of Dawn injured, trapped in that bear trap haunted his every thought night and day. The man looked haggard, his clothes hung to his form. He had not been able to sleep since the attack, worried for his beloved health, hoping she was get through without any complications. This was the first time he had left her side, waiting for her to awake but one of the servants had forced him from the room.
The only thing he could do was to seek out Xavier. Vaan needed to speak the lad immediately about his actions the previous night. He was brave, courageous in his actions protecting Dawn from the assault of the traitorous few. The young lord was the one who stood strong, drawn the blood of the Lady Jasmine. There was much that needed to be discussed now.
Xavier had finally proved himself but first they needed to speak. It was necessary. "Xavier, we need to talk" His voice was tired, his words drawn out as he lifted his head from his hands. He might look terrible but at the end of the day he was still the king. Business came first even though he longed to run to Dawn's side as she lay sleeping in his bed.
Oh he could just image her, swamped by what seemed like never ending thick covers. Vaan inwardly shivered with both desire and worry at the image of his injured Dawn. Oh what he would he do if something happened....no she was strong and would get through this.

He hadn’t been able to see his mom much since that night and it was making him thoroughly unhappy but he didn’t want to cause any problems that was the last thing that needed to happen after everything. Xavier’s ears were drooped down he wanted to see his mom he was worried about her and knew she was worried just as much about him. Licking some at his paws he rubbed his paws over his muzzle then covered his nose with his paws. He was hiding in the shadows in the throne room and didn’t move from his spot, his clothes were folded next to him if he needed them. Looking around he smelled Vaan in there with him and wondered if the King was mad at him that he didn’t go get help but that he killed another person.
Xavier hadn't really moved yet but wondered what would end up happening next. He thought about everything and had wanted to prove himself to people but not like it had happened. Sighing he curled up on the cold floor trying to take a bit of a nap or at least try to, he was still really tired. Not able he remembered Vaan's fur being covered with nastyness not even wanting to think about it. It made his stomach turn slightly and he had gotten sick not long after from the smell of the blood all over his fur but hadn't told his mom not wanting to worry her but he was okay now.
Peeking from the shadows some he watched Vaan sitting there in the throne looking so tired and sad. Right now the long hours and minutes were bleeding together almost he hated it. Hearing Vaan tiredly talking to him, he shifted human and quickly dressed before he moved from the shadows and went over to Vaan. "Yes Sire." Crud he was so worried that he was going to be scolded about what had happened. Standing there he waited for what Vaan needed to speak to him about.

For the twentieth time that day, her eyes examined each and every single kook in the ceiling handing over head. Starting to feel her sanity slipping away, she screamed to let out some steam. That was it! She was done playing nice and listening to orders to stay in bed. Who did she look like? Some princess that needed to be babied? No. Slipping off the oversized bed, Dawn tentatively placed her toes on the dark wood and hissed at the cold that flashed up her skin. A grin formed on her lips spotting her fuzzy green slippers, someone had made sure she had her own clothes and items from her home. It did make her wonder if someone had talked to Angel to get Summer to retrieve her stuff. Luna, she missed her sister deeply. Shaking her head, she slipped her feet into the slippers, happy for the protection against the chill. Rising up, she tested her leg, biting back a groan feeling how stiff her muscles were from not moving the leg too much after the attack. Dawn stepped down the few stairs that the bed was placed on like a tier, blocking out the minor pricks of pain surging up from her leg with each step. Passing a mirror, she took a second to fix her hair of any stray frizzy bits after flipping her hair over to bring some shape back to her dark locks. She left the bedroom and glanced up and down the hall. Two guards stood on either side of the door, facing away from her. As the door opened, the glanced over and blinked a few times seeing her standing there. Her eyes dared them to even suggest she get back into bed, she was more than eager to allow her wolf to feast on someone’s neck. In fact, she held up her head as if nothing was wrong before shutting the bedroom door behind her. She was going to find her son or at least her youngest one. Henry didn’t need her; Xavier was the only thing on her mind aside from Vaan.
Taking a deep breath in, she pulled apart the many different scents hanging in the hallway until she located Xavier’s scent that held the mixture of his cologne given by Revell. Perfectly, it was in the same direction that Vaan’s scent led. Good, she could check on both males before locating something to keep her sanity in place unless everyone wanted a bored Captain in wolf skin running around. The slippers were much more comfortable on her feet than any heels would have been, but she felt so venerable without them, her true height forced her eyes to be even with most of the guards’, in the hall, chest. There was a reason for her heels beyond just looking good in them, they gave her an extra lift and helped keep the men in line when she stepped on feet with the pointy ends.
Finally at the doors to the main hall, she paused taking in the different scents. Dawn knew she wasn’t dressed properly for entering the main hall, right then she didn’t care. Her wolf and she both needed to see Xavier and Vaan, needed to know the nightmares that kept revisiting her at night were just nightmares. Rolling back her shoulders, she entered the main throne room acting like the tank top and shorts with lime green slippers were her normal get up instead of what she’d thrown on for bed. Ignoring the gasp and whispers that began to stir, she walked over to Xavier seeing him standing before Vaan. Seeing how tired and worn out he looked, her wolf cried out wanting to comfort him. Her sister wolf didn’t like seeing him like this and neither did Dawn. Bowing before Vaan at Xavier’s side, she forced her body to not tremble at the pain that shot down her side. “Your Highness.” It took a small reminder to herself that she shouldn’t call the king Vaan in the presence of so many nobles. Just because she’d spent a few nights sleeping completely innocently in his bed didn’t mean they were suddenly an item…ok that was her human side thinking which her wolf snarled at before reminding Dawn that Vaan and her were true mates no matter what some stupid court nobles said.

It was time for this to be discussed with Xavier, everything that had happened the previous evening and his actions would be brought forward. Vaan had much to say, most would be both praising and scolding the younger lycan for his reckless, brave actions. Last night was now nothing but a memory but it would stay with Vaan for the rest of his days. The memory of his brother wolf taking complete control, taking revenge was something that he hoped would never happen in his lifetime again.
Once had been enough. It was a memory he did not want to relive but yesterday had been close enough for the tired, emotional drained King. “Xavier” He started, trying to think of where to go from there. He had been thinking too much about the words “Last night showed many qualities in you, you acted without thinking but it saved Dawn’s life” His voice showed his pride but it was smothered by his tiredness due to his lack of sleep from worry, worry surrounding his beloved who laid in his bed.
Lifting his eyes, taking in Xavier’s now human form. There was nothing his gaze did not miss about the young man’s physical form. Physically the young man would be fine but how was this affecting him mentally? Taking a life for the first time was hard to come to terms with, Vaan himself had struggled with it long ago. Playing god, as you held someone’s life in your hands was never easy but over time such things got easier. The death of Lord Frederick was clearly not affecting him, death was nothing new to the King especially after the horrors of the tournament which put him on the throne in the first place. Xavier had lived a settled life, his parents had protected him from the true nature of the world but now he had taken the first step in adulthood and the real world.
Another scent entered, his eyes widened with surprise at the identity of this new scent. Dawn but she was meant to be back in bed, healing. Turning his head to face her, shock present upon his features which was something you didn’t see every day. Emotion was something missing from the King’s face, the mask had slipped. Taking in her state of undress, from her green slippers up to tank top which clung to her chest and curves caused his brother wolf to growl annoyed at other’s had seen her like this. Vaan had been struck green with jealousy.
“Dawn, what are you doing out of bed” He said, turning his attention to his beloved momentarily forgetting the very reason for his need to speak with Xavier. However remembering the cause of Dawn’s many injuries and Vaan’s focus back and the very reason for his need to speak with Xavier.

He was hoping to see his mom soon and needed to see she was healing. Xavier stood there quietly and rubbed the back of his neck some, lowering his hand back to his side. Waiting to see still what Vaan wanted to speak with him about. “Yes Sire?” He carefully listened to Vaan’s words without saying anything until after the King was finished. “I know and I’m sorry I should have gone to get help or got there earlier.” Xavier felt badly about that and it showed that he did, frowning he sighed quietly. He had a bit of problems sleeping but he would usually fall asleep after a little bit, his bruises were almost faded and he was happy about that, it was the last thing he needed. Death was nothing new to him his mom had died giving birth to him and his father had killed himself not long after, the young man would have to live with that for the rest of his life.
Smelling his mom’s scent and saw her come inside he smiled relieved to see her there, Wrapping his arms around his mom gently hugging her. “Mom.” He had to be strong and brave not wanting to break into tears in front of the King. “You’re okay, I’m so sorry I didn’t get to you faster.” That guilt was eating away at him and he hated the fact he hadn’t gotten to his mom quicker to help her. Looking around for something for his mom to sit in he quickly went to get a chair and put it down for her. "Please mom sit down here and rest." Hoping she would sit down, he knew he hadn't listened to her but it was something he would make up for. Standing before the King again he would take what was coming without a fuss. He wasn't one to fuss about things.

Ignoring the gasp from the other members of the small court that were assembled, Dawn walked right up to Xavier’s side without hesitation. She had never been one to act all cute and naive about the proper manners one should use at court. As long as she addressed the King properly, she didn’t have too many problems otherwise. Her wolf’s only concern was for Vaan and his opinion of her.
“My dear sweet king, you sound grumpy. You should have slept in.” There were far too many double meanings behind that last comment from her mouth. And was that a smirk tugging at her lips? The normally emotionless Captain was smirking, straight at Vaan like they were complete equals instead of King and servant. That was cause enough for over a dozen rumors to instantly flare up in the main hall right then. Did she care? Not anymore. Had she ever cared about rumors? No. Her reputation of being a cold hearted bitch to her guards was well known but even her guards knew she was hard on them to make them stronger. At least they also knew, no one was allowed to beat up on them aside from her. The guards were like her own pack and she was head alpha bitch.
Being pulled back to the situation at hand, her arms encircled Xavier, she shook her head while rolling her eyes at his comment about not getting to her faster. “If you had gotten there faster, you would have round up with an arrow in you instead of me. Personally, I’d rather be the one shot then you.” If Xavier had been hurt there would have been no stopping her wolf from killing the two other lycans without a second thought. Her wolf was every bit a bloody thirst animal as a very protective mother to all she claimed as family. She still wished her pup hadn’t been there, hadn’t been forced to take a life of someone no matter how cruel the lycan was.
As the chair was bought over to her, Dawn sighed and rolled her eyes at the sight of it. There was no way she was sitting down after over 24 hours of straight laying down in bed. “I’ve rested long enough, if my leg was going to fall off it would have done so by now.” There was a bite behind her voice as she seemed to keep her eyes locked on Vaan at his throne, almost as if daring him to fight her on her refusal of the seat. Inside, her wolf seemed to relax while skimming over her future mate’s form like he was healing her by simply looking at her with his hypnotizing eyes.
Stepping past Xavier, she approached Vaan at his throne with a glint of mischievousness in her suddenly golden brown eyes. “I simple came to check on my son. Is that so bad?” Her words were whispered right up in Vaan’s ear, so her body was slightly bent over to place her lips closer to his ear, gently enough for only him to hear. Her wolf purred in delight while taking in the king’s scent that always calmed and excited her at the same time.

Vaan’s mind on the matter of his Captain was unmovable, she was to remain in his bed until her injuries had completely healed, not a moment before or after. Dawn’s health was important to him, she was growing on him. His heart beat only for her now, the king was never more certain of anything than this moment.
The matter of Xavier was a curious thing, he had displayed courage in the face of adversary but also he had acted reckless. Dealing with this would require thought and intense discussion in order to come to conclusion of what to do with the lad. “I must ask, why were you out in that clearing last night?” Curiosity often got the better of the king, he had to know the every movement of each of his courtiers whilst they remained within the walls of his court.
“Do not be sorry, you save my captain’s life but you should have acted with more control. Be the better lycan than those traitorous fools” He spat out, the very thought of the lord who had betrayed him made him poisonous, angry at the what could have been. Vaan would not speak that lord’s name now, it was now rotten and would be stricken from the records. Lord Frederick and his daughter from this day forward would disappear, it would be like they never existed. Any remaining family would be exiled but only if they were found to be in league with the enemy of the king and his royal household.
This was not good, she was out of bed and standing mere feet away from him. “This is going against direct orders Dawn” He reminded her, of the orders that had been issued concerning his beloved. She was not meant to out of bed. His eyes had been glued to her body the moment she entered, watching for any sign of her wounds reopening. It would give him a reason to rush her back to the safety of his silk covered bed.
Vaan craved to sleep in, to remain beside her but he feared that he had, he would given into his deepest desires and injured her further. “My sweet captain, I would have but duty comes before my own wants and needs especially when you are hurt and need rest” Vaan smirked as he responded to Dawn, treating as if she was his equal in every respect. In his eyes she had always been above the rest, placed upon a pedestal but until now he had not publicly shown this higher level of respect and feeling he held for her.
Narrowing his eyes ever so slightly at the challenge, the gauntlet had been thrown down. His brother wolf growled, enjoying the idea of fighting with the vixen that was to be his future mate but Vaan had no choice but to force it back. The closer she got, the stronger his jealously became. She smelt of another, another had touched her. It was not intimately mixed with her own indicating that she had not lain with the fool but still it was there upon her flesh.
In a flash Vaan changed, flecks of gold littered in the stormy depths of his grey eyes. The wolf was in agreement, this she-wolf was theirs and no-one else could touch her. His hands shoot up, grasping her shoulders tightly, almost so tight that it would leave a bruise. “Who touched you?” His voice was icy cold, rage brewing behind the surface ready to burst. “I will not ask again Dawn, you are mine” The king and his inner feral lycan were possessive, possessive of what was theirs, and Dawn Roseburn was definitely theirs.
Xavier and what he had done had become an after thought, this had to be resolved now. The pup could for wait his turn.

He watched his mom and then looked at Vaan observing him as well, wanting to lean against his mom but thought right now it wouldn’t be the best time. Xavier always knew better then to be reckless but his inner wolf had taken over for him, his wolf hated what he had done and wouldn’t do it again, Xavier wouldn’t do it again. Quite worried about what would end up happening to him he remained calm none the less. “Mom and I were going to spend sometime together but the moon was calling to her first then me I needed a nice run outside..I was running and I heard mom’s distress and I followed it to her, Sire.” Looking at Vaan he rubbed the back of his neck some, luna he was in so much trouble. Hugging his mom’s back he carefully and closely listened to her. “I’m not proud of myself for doing what I did if I could go back it would have been different or I wouldn’t have been so reckless. I'm sorry mom.” It wasn’t something he had wished to have happen and did want to go back to do it a different way.
Not saying anything he heard Vaan’s words he nodded chewing on his bottom lip some, Xavier understood. “I know and I’m sorry that I didn’t..I will Sire I promise.” Looking to his mom again when she didn’t want to sit down. “Yes mom and fair enough.” Not wanting to push his mom into something she didn’t want to do he stood there as his mom went to speak to Vaan, wanting to go wolf and curl up with his paws over his muzzle he didn’t. He would live with the blood on his paws for the rest of his life, praying to god he didn't end up feeling like some kind of monster for it. Watching his mom and Vaan seeing something was going on between them but he kind of figured so since he often smelled Vaan's scent on his mom. So if there was something between them then he fully supported it, just wanting his mom to be happy with a nice man she deserved it.
Just then it all changed right then seeing the situation he didn't get involved it was between his mom and Vaan. Blinking when he heard Vaan's words to his mom about being his Xavier was very happy about it. But seeing what happened next made him very uncomfortable, his mom's shoulders being grabbed by the King, Xavier had smelled the other scent on his mom when she hugged him. He knew Carter and had since he was a little boy, Carter had helped guard him when people who he didn't know were around him. His bottom lip was still in his mouth he hoped this didn't turn out badly.

Keeping silent, Dawn watched Vaan question Xavier. Her wolf wanted to snap at the king for questioning why her son was in the woods, not seeing the point in the question. Also, she was just being the protective mother who would have covered up a crime for her child. Instead, she held her tongue to keep her appearance of calmness when her leg was really starting to throb under the weight she was forcing on it. Knowing she should have taken the chair offered by Xavier, she refused to sit down after saying no. She was sometimes too stubborn for her own good. At least she could admit it. Listening to her son speak up about why he had finally ventured into the woods, her fingers gently rubbed his back to give him strength to stand firm under Vaan’s hard eyes.
“Forgive me, your highness, but your own control was lacking last night as well.” No disrespect was meant behind the words but Dawn wouldn’t allow the king to bring up something he hadn’t shown that great deal of either. It was hard not to think about the past night and remember seeing the full wolf that hid away inside her mate. It brought out her own desires for Vaan eager to see if one day she could push him into that same sort of mind set. Not so one of them could hurt the other but just to see if the reason he had been so enraged had really been due to his feelings for her or the idea of someone betraying him.
Dawn knew she was defying orders, something a few months ago she would have never thought to do without a very good reason. Wanting to see Xavier when her leg was still healing wasn’t a good enough reason, she knew that. Her wolf being restless wasn’t a good enough reason either. So why was she going against direct orders? Because being in that large bed covered in Vaan’s scent without him by her side was depressing. The longer she was in his room without him only made her wish to do something reckless to gain his attention. “That was an order? It sounded more like a friendly suggestion.” There was a coy, playful note to her words causing more of a ripple in the puddle of the room of courtiers. Hell, she was already in up to her head, why not go the rest of the way?
“If you do not look after your own needs, who will look after the people?” It was hypocritical of Dawn to be speaking of looking out for one’s best interest when sometimes she worked herself so hard she passed out the moment she stepped foot into her room. However, she wasn’t the king or the queen. She didn’t embody the lycan standards. Vaan was King and he needed to look out for his own health to look out of the island. The way he was speaking to her caused a large grin to form along her lips. It was impossible not to smile when he wasn’t trying to put up a front around everyone about her just being the Captain of the Guard to him. For some reason, she felt as if some weight had been lifted from her shoulders as he spoke to her as an equal, not a body protecting his.
In a moment, everything had changed. Vaan wasn’t tease or playing with her. His eyes spoke of rage, rage strong enough that his wolf was showing through. The hand holding her shoulder in an iron grip didn’t bother Dawn or at least she didn’t allow it to show on her face. She was made of stronger stuff than some she-wolf that would whimper and plead over a minor bruise. After having an arrow in one leg, an arrow in her side, and a bear trap around her leg she felt pretty confident she could with stand anything thrown at her. What did cause her to tremble was the tone Vaan used to address the situation…and her. It was so cold, so foreign and yet she had become intimate with that voice by shadowing him through court life for the past 91 years, more than that if one counted her time as a simple palace guard. However, the longer she stood with a stiff spine; ready to face an anger thrown at her, the more her leg began to burn. “Your Highness, I am my own. No man may own me. Not even my king.” More defiant words. Could anyone expect anything less from the Captain? Her sister wolf was torn between agreeing with those words and curling up in Vaan’s lap like a giant lap dog. The sharp scent of blood filled her nose, but she already knew her leg was bleeding again; likely one of the stitches had torn open.
Glancing for a second back at Xavier, she licked her lips unsure if speaking about the small exchange in the king’s room would be wise. Carter had always looked out for Xavier when she was busy with training other guards. Looking back on it, she wondered if he got close to her son because of her. Telling the king meant risking having the guard hunted down when it wasn’t his complete fault since Vaan hadn’t done anything to confirm or deny the rumors of a possible relationship between them.
“Carter.” Whispering the name to Vaan, her eyes conveyed just how much she hadn’t taken pleasure in the man touching her. In fact, she detested anyone outside of family touching her ever since her wolf refused to give up on the idea that Vaan was her mate. Gasping, Dawn’s leg gave out under her weight, sending her down towards the tile floor.
