The lean form that was the chancellor walked down the hall towards the offices with a purpose. He said nothing nor did nothing to anyone in passing. He had nothing to say to them. And they had nothing to say to him. So in short, he had nothing to do with them and they didn't require his attention in the slightest. Not that many of the people in passing wanted to say anything to him. But that was something they kept to themselves. Not that he would have cared much even if he had known. Kevan was dressed in a simple yet neat blue suit. It was a lighter blue inside layer with a navy blue coat over it. And of course the tie laid on the counter. He wondered why he even bothered with those stupid things anymore. But he was presentable and that's all that mattered to him. He of course had to look his best when meeting with the king.
So some people got nervous, others somewhat anxious and some even got downright terrified when the King wanted to speak with them. Kevan always figured it was guilty consciences or something to that nature. Like they knew they had done something wrong and didn't want him figuring it out. Of course it never came across his mind that they just were generally nervous all the time. Him, on the other hand, was used to it. Used to meetings and debating and all that jazz. So to him, it was just another day. It was nothing to worry about. He remembered the messenger saying that it had something to do with a law that the king wanted to put in place. Kevan couldn't help but wonder what type of law. Hmm...there was so many things that in his mind needed to be changed. Many things indeed. Perhaps they could finally get some things done.
Getting to the door, he knocked on it gently and when he was allowed in, he bowed slightly towards the King, You wanted to see me sir?" he asked waiting for the other to explain the who, what, where, when and hows of the situation.

Seated alone in his office, leaning over piles of paper work, each focusing on a different aspect of the politics of court. Vaan needed to speak with his chancellor, trusting his sound advice that he had given to him in the past. Kevan Vulpe in his eyes could be trusted with even the most sensitive matters, much like this one would be seen as.
The sound of the door opening, alerted the king that he no longer was alone. The silence that came with work was broken but this was necessary. "Ah Kevan, come in" He warmly greeted the man, he consisted one of his closest friends.
"This is a matter of importance that will not leave this room, just yet" A change in the law could cause an uprising with the nobles and this needed to be avoid. It would kept behind closed doors until the details were settled. The messenger had been vague but that was intentional. "Close the door behind you, take a seat then we can start" He quickly instructed his chancellor, the mask was slipping back into place, it was time for business not pleasure.
"I want to change the marriage law" Vaan's face turned serious, his eyebrow rose ever so slightly. His eyes burned with an fire that often was not there. This mattered to Vaan, he needed to do this as if not then he would not be able to marry the woman he loved with his whole heart but how could he change a law that was older than he?
Only Kevan would know. He waited patiently for the man's reply.

"Of course sir." Kevan said with a simple nod as the other said that what was about to be discussed was to stay between them. Kevan wouldn't be Kevan if he couldn't keep any secrets now. He had more secrets then most...but then of course, when you were are secretive as him, it was a given. He couldn't help but wonder if this had anything to do about the note he had been given during the engagement function. Hmmm...well there was only one way to find out. And so sitting down into the chair onto he other side of the desk, he waited for the other to continue talking...
And then bam! Kevan was handed another surprise...something he hadn't expected. Or seen coming. And he wasn't sure what to say. Really how many surprises could a guy take in his lifetime?
He wanted to change the marrying law? Really?! That law had been in place for decades! Maybe even longer. Who knew? But it was a traditional law pretty much. And one of the ones that Kevan actually enjoyed. It was his view that commoners didn't belong in nobility. And that included marriage. They didn't deserve any of the perks that they weren't born into. To him--you couldn't earn noble rights---you had to be born into it.
"What brought this on sir?" Kevan would be lying if he said he wasn't in the tiniest bit curious here. Vaan had never gave the slightest hint to wanting to change the law before. And then all of a sudden he did. He couldn't help but be curious now. Though he was wondering if he would like said answer....but then again, he would just have to wait and see....now wouldn't he?
[[OOC: I'm assuming this was what the note he gave Kevan in 'Bleeding Love' was about. If not, just holler at me and I'll edit it.]]

With his chancellor at last here, the ball could start rolling and this law could finally be changed or at least altered. Vaan would have his Dawn as his mate, queen and wife! This was something he had never before been so certain about. In the past, his temporary lovers or mistresses had been of varied birth, some had been commoners whilst others were of noble birth. The King liked variety, since it was the spice of life but now he had finally settled on one woman. It did not matter to Vaan that her blood was not blue, it did not matter that she did not hold a considerable dowry. Money and status were not the driving force behind this relationship, love was.
Vaan Niall was in love with his Captain.
Personal matter were left at the door, business was all that mattered. His mask would remain stony through out this meeting. Yes he had sent Kevan a note during Henry’s event filled engagement party and yes it had been extremely vague, only stating he wished to meet him as soon as possible. His son’s engagement had been causing Vaan’s mind to whirl, the need to be with Dawn was becoming more and more important. It was consuming his every thought.
He took a deep breath, collecting his thoughts trying to string a sentence together. His chancellor wanted a reason for this sudden chance, this need to edit a law older than the both of them combined. “My desire to marry is stronger than it has been these past few years” He started, this was a necessary evil and needed to be explained. “However the bride in question is not of noble blood” Dawn was most definitely a commoner but often acted better than the ones who meant to be her superiors, her betters. Never before he had felt the need to even edit the law of old but this particular law was standing in his way of happiness.

Kevan was a man who liked to know things. He liked the know the who, what, where, when and hows of things. He did not like surprises...not in the slightest. he was okay with dishing them out--but he did not like it when it was on him thank you very much. The note at the engagement party alone had been enough to set him on edge. The utter vagueness of it all had really gotten under his skin...more then it probably ought to have. Considering it was a note from the king and all. But it still kept him on his toes. He hadn't known what he was going to be talked to about...hadn't known what to expected. And that was perhaps the most irksome thing of all...specially for a guy who liked to keep tabs on everything. Not being able to do that was almost a feeling of being out of control. And if Kevan Vulpe needed anything--it was to be in control.
He nodded simply as the King spoke, his facial expressions non moving as he got his answers..."I see." was the simple reply. Just as predicted, he didn't like said answer too much. The King wanted to marry a commoner? That was ridiculous! The lower people did not deserve any positions in the noble court! He felt the same way with Adrienne (who he was more then glad to see go) and now he was feeling the same way with--whoever this other woman was as well. The King and the court deserved someone who knew of the rules, knew of the court's way--and knew what they were doing. The last thing they needed was to be brought down by a commoner who didn't know up from down.
The law had been in effect for as long as it had been for good reasons. He didn't want a spur of the moment thing to destroy that. But still--he had to be civil about this...subtle manipulations was how he worked. Well nine outta ten times anyways. But this wasn't one of those gung ho situations. And so he had to think smart--he was good at that, "What changes are you planning to make?" he asked...figuring that the first thing to do was to know what the King had planned in his head.
Then and only then he would go from there.

Oh how things had changed, the balance of power had tipped once more but this time in the King’s favour. Just as it should be. Kevan had always been a trusted advisor, always there whenever Vaan was struggling with a decision, often a necessary decision. He was the man always by his side but now he had what he truly needed a woman. A woman by his side, the power behind the throne. His beloved captain, dawn roseburn.
Things were changing, changing quickly. It was a run away train, bursting through his chest as such a speed that no-one could stop it. Not now at least. A common upon the throne, one who hadn’t won the honour and privilege of being the queen of this sweet, cosy quaint little island of theirs. The engagement party had gone to hell in a hand basket, so quickly had the atmosphere changed because of the fury of one woman, who had been discarded by his womanizing fool of a son, then again the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. There had been a time when he, the great foolish king had done the same, had treated women like they were disposable items, to used at his discretion. However he had fallen in love and fallen hard for his tough as nail, no-nonsense captain. The one woman who had always been there, through good times and bad.
Times had truly changed but so had he.
No longer would it be a rumour, no longer would they had to hide their love in the shadows, in secret heated moments. The engagement would be announced after his eldest son was married, this moment was Henry’s. Vaan could wait, he was after all a patient man. The response was not one he had excepted, Kevan his chancellor was obviously unsure of this sudden outburst. Did he really think that this was the same as Adrienne, she was nothing but Dawn was everything. What changes was he planning? Oh many changes.
“That law is outdated, it prevents me to having what I desire. She maybe a commoner but oh she is so much more than” He was not giving away the identity of his future bride. If he revealed who she was now, this early in the progress, Vaan feared that something might happen to her. “This law only allows me at present to make her my mistress and that will not do” He frown deeply at the very thought of only having Dawn as his mistress, she was his equal and only the best would do.
