The icy breeze pulled at Dawn's dark curls sending them tumbling and twirling at her back but she didn’t feel the chill, if anything she was build for the colder seasons unlike her twin. Skimming over the training yard from her position on the wall for an eagle’s eye view, doubt began to enter her mind. Doubt about her choice in this career. But there was a point in anyone’s life where being snickered and sneered at behind her back was starting to wear her down. The question of how much longer she could take it flickered in the dark corners of her mind; a whisper most days, but right then it was a deafening roar that couldn’t stop ringing in her ears.
A cry caused Dawn to leap over the railing of the wall acting on instincts in her rash jump, the wind rushing up to her face while the ground seemed to grin thinking she was going to crumble on contact. However, her feet bent slightly coming to rest in a crouch on the ground, leaving her eyes on the male who’d cried out. His body had been slammed into the wall, the audio able crack of ribs echoed in her ears making her teeth grind in annoyance. The man had been training with the boy that Angel had taught from the moment his feet touched the palace grass. He wouldn’t have been thrown into the wall if he had taken the time to watch out for his footing. In the attack, he’d tripped over himself trying to get out of the way of an attack, leaving a large opening for the boy lycan to kick him in the stomach.
“You got sloppy. I hate sloppy. Sloppy guards get others killed.” Leaning down over the injured male, Dawn stared him in the eyes easily getting the point across how pissed she was at his poor skills. He broke eye contact, staring down at his boots knowing which one was in charge right then. Reaching down, she ignored the cry of pain from the male as his ribs cracked loud enough for even a human too hear. Her hand grabbed his side and twisted her wrist slightly to the side to reline the bone; her expression was completely blank after releasing him and shoving him to lean back against the wall. Lycans were amazing healers that she had learned from experience both her own and others in other training sessions. “Get back to training.” She growled after turning her back on him noticing the audience of newbie guards, her nails curled into tight fist. “Did I say take a break?!” Barking at them, her eyes flared giving them a glimpse into a dark future of death if they didn’t start moving. The guards started scurrying away fearing what the Captain would force them to do. The sloppy work she just witnessed made her want to beat each guard until they never even thought about letting someone get the better of them. Growling under her breath, Dawn left the yard before she did something very drastic to them.
Her heels clicked on the stone steps entering the palace once again trying not to let it show how weary she was of being Captain. It had only been 90 years but between keeping an eye on Vaan and commanding the guards, it was starting to wear on Dawn. “Is it time to retire?” Rubbing a hand through her hair, she blew a long string of air out of her mouth trying to maintain control over her features. Stopping by a window, her eyes surveyed the tree line feeling the temptation to leave just to go for a good long hard run. Deep down, her sister wolf called out, pleading with Dawn to allow her to be free for just a couple of minutes in the woods. Her nails sank into the skin at her palms reminding herself she had other things to be doing then day dreaming.
Turning away from the window and it’s earthy temptation, Dawn forced her body to get walking down the hall keeping her nose open for the King’s scent. Passing the Prince’s suite, she smelt a mixture of Henry and Lady Elina, not the scent of sex but just two people leaving in close proximity. Ignoring the Prince’s room, she continued to tracking Vaan calculating roughly what time he should be over with his meeting with the noble houses. Normally she didn’t leave his side, but she wanted a bit of time to watch over the new guards to see how far they had progresses since she’d watched them three weeks before. Yes, there was improvement, but there was so much more work for them to do before she even thought of giving them serious jobs along the walls or watching over private sections of the palace.
Her feet lead her down the main hall, past offices towards the council room where Vaan’s scent was the strongest along with each head of the noble houses and the king’s son, Duke Richard. The door was still shut tight but family members of each house hung around the doors hoping to catch words spoke, Dawn was having none of that as she snarled deeply at them, startling them all into jumping as far from the door as possible. She took a stance with her back to the door, facing the nobles while crossing her arms over her chest, clearly stating without words they weren’t getting any more dirty tad bits from the private meeting. It didn’t matter how much longer the meeting was going to run, she wasn’t going to budge out of the spot.
