Peeking her head out of her room, Audrey looked up and down the hall before she quickly walked out into it. Wearing her pink and purple, the four year old rubbed her eyes as she walked down the hall trying to find the kitchen. Her nightly routine consisted of her having a drink of warm milk before bed and now that she was in a new place, that wasn’t possible anymore. It meant that Audrey couldn’t get herself to sleep. Not only because of not having her milk but because she was in a new place without her mother as well. The woman had promised she would be back once she found her grandfather but being four, Audrey still missed the older woman. She would be the one that rocked her to sleep if she has a night mare or if she simply couldn’t get to bed. Now there was no one there to do that for her. Not only that but her room was so big, she found herself wondering how many monsters were living in it as well.
Chewing on her bottom lip, Audrey clutched Mr.Wigglebe the third tightly to her chest as she wondered down the hall opening any door that she could. The little pup stopped at one of the door and reached out on her tippy toes trying to get a hold of the handle. Once her fingers wrapped around it, she tired the knob only to find that it was locked. Pouting, she left go of the door before running to the next one trying to find the kitchen or someone that could get her a glass of milk. Stopping at the next door, the little girl did the same thing, standing on her toes to get at the door knob. This time she had some luck and the door opened. Smiling down at her bear, she pushed the door open more peeking inside. “Shh Mr.Wigglebe, we gotta be quite..” she explained to him wondering what room she had just walked into. Looking into the room, the little girl frowned when she found herself in the library instead of the kitchen. “We’re never gonna get milk.” she explained to her bear sounding somewhat defeated.

Elina was up late, unable to sleep. She had a lot on her mind as of late. Mostly the young pup's arrival. To be hones, Elina was not all that surprised at the appearance of Audrey Niall... Henry's first born child. Elina had to admit, it hurt. It hurt very badly and now that he wedding had passed and there was still no Henry, Elina was at a loss as to what to do. She should have left the second she found out about the pup. Leave on the night of the masquerade as she had originally planned, but something in her told her to stay. For the pup. They didn't know if Henry would ever return, and as much as Elina wished to leave and hide in the Scottish highlands as she had originally planned, she was still Henry's mate. Which mean Audrey was her responsibility.
She sighed and looked down to her own flat belly. Inside her own pup, Henry's pup, grew. It was probably about a month now since she found out. A week now since Audrey showed up. And several days after Elina and Henry were supposed to get married. The she-wolf sighed as she sat in a window bench in the library, a partially read book in her lap, looking up at the stars and the waxing moon.
She heard noises at the door and looked to it as it squeaked open. She studied the pup for a moment before she closed the book. "And what are you doing up so late, young lady?" She asked sweetly, studying the pup. It ached for Elina to take in the appearance. She looked too much like her father, and she was every bit of her father's daughter. She could imagine Dawn finding Henry out of bed much like Audrey was right now. She smiled at the image of Dawn dragging him back to bed, kicking and screaming. Elina softly closed the book and gestured for Audrey to come over to her.

Audrey held her bear close as she pushed open the door more. When the door squeaked opened, she made a panicked face before looking down at her bear. “Shh we gotta to be quite” she explained to her bear as if it was his fault that the door had made a sound. The teddy bear she was holding was quite ratty already. He had several patches and stitches from being torn so much. It didn’t help that some of the older kids had tried to take him away from Audrey and she was far too stubborn to let go. The end result had been torn ligament that Audrey cried over for a good while until it was fixed. The bear also wore a min tuxedo and a top hat. He had been given to her when she was born by her grandfather and Audrey hadn’t gone anywhere without him. If he wasn’t in bed with her, the young pup would not get to sleep.
It was the main reason why he was with her now. She wouldn’t let go of him if she could. However, during the day she would leave him in her room when she was doing other things. It really depended on the situation and how comfortable she was to be without her best friend around her. For now, being in a new place, Audrey needed him at her side the whole time. When Elina spoke to her, Audrey jumped and used the door to hide behind. She kept her head peek out as she held onto the door. “We can’t sweep Eli.” she explained an adorable pout forming on her face as she walked further into the library. When the older woman called her over, Audrey let go of the door, walking completely into the library and over to where Elina was sitting. She had been promise to see her father however, it seemed that he wasn’t around right now. Elina had told her she would take care of her until he did come which Audrey liked. She was still disappointed that her dad wasn’t there. She had really been looking forward to seeing him finally.
Getting to where Elina was, Audrey held her bear close to her chest, looking over the top of his head at the older woman. “Mommy always gab me milk before bed. We went to get some but got lost…” she explained further hoping she wasn’t in trouble for running around in the hallway alone. Pouting at not being able to find any milk, Audrey rubbed at her eyes a bit finding that sleep was taking over somewhat. She just didn’t want to be alone when she fell asleep.

"Oh?" She said softly, studying Audrey as she came over. She smiled and shifted She watched the pup for a moment and smiled, stroking her hair. Audrey shouldn't be wondering the halls this late at night. Especially not by herself, but she could understand. She knew a nice warm glass of milk always helped her get to sleep when she was a pup. She smiled softly and closed her book, setting it aside as she sat up in the seat. " I happen to know where the kitchen is, sweet pea. Would you still like to get a glass of milk?" She smiled softly, stroking the pup's hair. She watched Audrey thoughtfully for a moment, noting the way she rubbed her eyes. Maybe it would be okay if Elina just put the pup down to sleep.
Elina realized she wasn't being the best step mom at the moment. There were things Elina could do to help make the pup more comfortable. She smiled and stroked her hair softly as she stood and gently picked the pup up, setting her against her hip softly. " Someone is sleepy." She murmured soothingly as she gently swayed to and fro for a moment. "I promise tomorrow we'll start fixing you a glass of milk before bed. " She murmured as she carried the pup up to their suite. Since Elina lived in Henry's suite, it only made sense that Audrey stayed in Henry's suit as well. They had to clean out one of the guest rooms, but Audrey had her own room.
"Here we are. Nice, comfy bed." Elina murmured to the soothingly as she laid her in bed and tucked her in. "Anything I can get you and Mr. Wigglebe?" She asked sweetly. Her and that teddy always seemed to be together. He was practically attached to Audrey's hip. Elina smiled at the thought. She usually went everywhere with the teddy, and Elina could understand that. It was probably the one thing the pup was familiar with. It was the one source of comfort she had among all the strangers and unfamiliar things she was experiencing. Elina remembered her old blanket. She drug it around constantly when she was Audrey's age. So much so that it was more holes than blanket by the time her mother boxed it up and stored it away.

Audrey held on to her bear as she walked over to Elina. The woman was one of the few people that Audrey had met and knew enough to trust her. She had been nice to her since she got there and since her daddy was away for now, Audrey had no one else wanting to take care of her. Her mother was gone for now and she was in a new place all alone. The good thing was that Audrey wasn’t shy and often found ways to entertain herself if needed be. Heck she had even gone out on her own to find a glass of milk. The problem was she didn’t know which way to go to getting that in the first place. Hearing Elina tell her that she knew where the kitchen was caused the little pups eyes to open in a hopeful way. “Weally? So does dat mean I get some milk?” she asked curiously and hopefully at the same time. The young girl really wanted to get that glass of milk. The problem was she was already getting tired.
When her hair was stroked, Audrey found herself getting sleepier. The simple fact that she was being petted was helping her get to sleep already. Getting lifted up onto the woman’s hip, Audrey wrapped her tiny arm around Elina’s neck laying her head on her shoulder her eyes slowly closing. “But I can’t sweep without milk Eli.” she told her covering a yawn after she spoke. The fact that sleep was coming to her now was really something odd. Never did she get to sleep without that glass of milk but it seemed her adventure outside in the hallways made her tired.
In her room, Audrey yawned again as Elina put her to bed. She lay down and hugged her bear closer. “Make sure there are no monsters Elina. Pwease. Mr.Wigglesbe says he saw some.” she explained moving closer to where Elina was just in case. The room she was in was far bigger than the one she had back home. In that one she had even slept with her mother half the time anyways.

Elina stopped a servant in the hall on their way to Audrey. She asked for a glass of warm milk for the pup, and the servant happily agreed to go get some for her. She didn't think Audrey would get a chance to drink it, but Elina thought it would help to keep the pup calm. Audrey was used to a certain bedtime routine, and she was in a strange place. It would help her adjust to the palace if Elina could help her follow the routine she was used to. So she would get the pup a glass of milk. If she didn't drink it, Elina would.
Elina smiled softly and nodded her head softly, stroking the pup's hair for a moment before she started to check all the usual places for monsters. She started at the bed, ducking under it to check for monsters under the bed. "No monsters here." She said sweetly as she rose up and looked to Audrey with a smile. She did the same thing at ever stereotypical place for monsters to hide in, telling the pup there were no monsters at each of them. Elina finally finished at the pup's closet and made sure to shut the closet door behind herself. She came back over to the bed and smiled softly. " Feel a little safer now? Or are there any other places Mr. Wigglesbe thought he saw a monster?" She asked softly stroked the pup's hair tenderly, leaning over her gently. She realized there wasn't a night light anywhere in this bedroom. Elina made a mental note to see if she could find a night light for the pup in the morning.
She looked up as a servant came in with the milk. Elina smiled and thanked the girl for the milk before dismissing her. She took the glass and turned back to Audrey. "Here, sweet pea. Here is your milk." She murmured sweetly as she offered the glass to the pup.

Audrey held on to her bear as if her life depended on him being there. She really had nothing else with her. There was only a small handful of clothing that her mother had packed into the little bag she had come with. Just a few things to tide her over during her trip to the island. It wasn’t much but Gwen had figured if anything Henry would be able to provide Audrey with whatever it was she needed. At least she hoped he would and didn’t simply throw their child to the streets. Gwen hadn’t been able to stick around long enough to find out if her daughter was okay but part of her knew she would be fine. While holding her bear in one hand, the little girl rested her sleepy head on Elina’s shoulder yawning again as she was carried down the hall back to her room.
When she was finally tucked in bed, Audrey curled up against her bear and watched Elina closely as she checked under every nook and cranny that a monster might hide in. Her blue eyes never left the older woman as she went around the room. Being in a strange place only got her more scared that there would be other things lurking around to get her. Being an imaginative child only made it that much worse when she came up with the things that go bump in the night. When Elina finished looking through all the places, Audrey nodded her head and lay back against the pillows for a moment. “No I think they are gone.” she explained to Elina before yawning again the petting helping her get to sleep somewhat.
When the milk was brought in, Audrey sat up already half asleep before taking a few sips from the glass. She held the half drank glass out towards Elina once she was done. “Pank you.” she said her words coming out in a child attempt at mimicking adult speech. To everyone around her it was simply cute. Licking her lips of any excess milk, she lay back and closed her eyes for a moment yawning again. ”When’s daddy coming back Eli?”

Brown eyes studied the pup intently as she drank her milk. Elina did some snooping the other day and asked the guard who had originally received Audrey some question. He said that the woman who left her, her mother, had seemed on edge. Like she was afraid someone was going to catch her. She was running obviously. From who or what was the question. One thing was clear though. The mother had enough common sense to know the pup would be safe in a castle full of guards as long as she was the prince's daughter. It made Elina wonder when someone would demand a paternity test for proof. Elina needed no paternity test to know that this child was half Henry though. She could tell just by looking into those beautiful blue eyes. By the way the pup acted. She was certainly her father's daughter. Elina just wished that Henry was here to help her.
Lips twisted into a warm smile at Audrey's attempt to be adult like. Elina took the glass of milk from her and set it aside on the night stand by Audrey's bed. She looked back to Audrey and nodded softly. "You're very welcome." She murmured sweetly. Elina softly tucked the pup back into the covers as she laid back, stroking her hair tenderly.
Elina's expression saddened a little at the pup's question. Elina wish she could she answer Audrey, but to be honest, Elina didn't even know if Henry would ever come back . How did you tell a child that? A child who has never met her father and was hoping to now? Elina took a deep quiet breath and smiled faintly. "I don't know, to be honest, sweet pea. But I'm sure it'll be soon." Elina certainly hoped for Audrey's sake that what she just said wasn't a complete lie. She sent a mental prayer up to La Luna, asking her to guide Henry back home to her. If not for her and her unborn child's sake then for his daughter's sake. Elina wasn't sure if she would ever be able to forgive Henry for leaving her and running away from everything on the island, but she wanted Audrey to get to know him. To get to know her entire family. That's why Elina stayed. Elina would always consider herself a family member to Vaan's pack. Even if Henry ran away and they were no longer engaged. And Elina carried a part of Audrey's family in her belly now. She was going to be a big sister, and she wanted Audrey to enjoy her baby brother or sister.

There were days when Audrey would think about her mother wondering when she would finally get back. She was really missing the older woman given that she hadn’t actually lived a day without her. At least not until now, when she was supposed to be staying with her father. However it seemed that her father wasn’t around right now. Her mom had promised her that she would finally be able to see him; however he didn’t seem to be around right now. Part of Audrey wondered if her daddy just didn’t want to see her and he was hiding. She had cried the night that they told her he wasn’t there. Her hopes had been crushed when she had been told she could finally see him only to not have it come true. Maybe there was something wrong with her that he didn’t want to tell her about.
The only reason she wasn’t crying right now was because of Elina. The older woman had promised to take care of her until her father came back. She had explained that she was married to him and it meant she would take care of her. Audrey had to accept that she needed to wait until he could come back. For now, she was happy with Elina the woman liked playing with her. Looking up at Elina, she waited for her to answer the question. The problem was that the milk she had just drunk was already taking its effect on her. Yawning again, she lay her head on the pillow, her eyes slowly falling closed as she let the dream world slowly take over. “Otay…but are you gunna weave me too? she whispered her eyes closing as she fell into a dream world not hearing the answer to her question. Her dreams consisted of all the imaginary things that Audrey came up with in the day time to occupy herself with. There wasn’t much to do for someone her age and not a lot of kids around either it seemed. It was one of the reasons why the young pup made up a lot of things.

Elina felt a piece of her lost to this pup at those words. She was so like Henry. She even looked like him. Pretty blue eyes and all. She smiled weakly and shook her head softly, stroking her cheek softly. "I promise, sweet pea. I'll never leave you." Elina leaned in and pressed a kiss to her forehead softly, stroking her hair tenderly. Elina would stay. If for no other reason than because of this precious little girl. Because a part of Henry, the part that Elina loved, was in this little girl. She gently tucked Audrey in, stroking her hair tenderly. Elina sat on the end of the bed, watching her for a moment as she thought over things. What would their future hold? What would the future of little Audrey hold?
Brown eyes looked to the bedroom door for a moment. She didn't really want to go lay in her and Henry's bed. Too many memories. Too many smells. The lack of warmth from his side of the bed. She sighed and looked back to Audrey and smiled softly, slowly laying down next to the pup, snuggling close to her as she gently wrapped an arm around Audrey. She would probably sleep better with Elina in the bed with her anyways.
