Walking through the market, Selena paused at booths to eye the fruits and vegetables. The woman’s job at the palace entailed mostly cleaning up the suites after the ladies and lords had left for the day. Of course, she was also there to do odd jobs such as collecting and inspecting the food being sent to the palace. Meaning that if anything rotten or spoiled arrived at the palace it end on her head, a little daunting task but after doing it for years, some guidance by her mother, and a keen eye for vegetables and fruits a few days before their ripeness that would allow the cooks days to allow them to sit before needing to use them. Pulling her headphones from her pocket, she turned up her music just enough for her to ear the steady beat that pulses from the white buds while still being able to hear voices over it. Waving to one of the booth owners, she bent over to pick up a bell pepper to sniff it slightly. Her nose was greeted with the rich scent of earth and the vegetable itself. It’s green color was still very light, close to a lime green then a dark forest green meaning there was still a good week for them to be used. “Can you send about two dozen of these to the palace, Chris?” Lifting her eyes up, she smiled sweetly at the guy that she had known since her first time doing this small task when she was seventeen but with the help of a more experienced servant guiding her. “Of course, Selena.” Putting the bell pepper back down, she walked away from the vendor not noticing the sway of her hips in time with the music in her ears. Nor did she notice the heavy sigh from Chris as she left his presence before he could bother talking to her more. As much as she would have loved to spend the day chatting with the locals and enjoying the warm weather she just had far too many things on her list to do before getting back to the palace before noon. Strolling away, her eyes skimmed over jalapeños before pulling out a paper from her back pocket to see exactly was needed for the next few nights for the noble’s dinners. Continuing to walk, she managed to not bump into anyone before stopping next to a booth full of sweet mangos perfect for the dessert the head chef had spoke of wishing to create.

Nia herself was in the market, getting fresh fruits and vegetables to serve for dinner around the gypsy camp for the night. There were not that many mouths to feed these days. Not as many as there once was. Since she had grown up with the gypsies, she had seen many leave the ways of the gypsy. Be it for love or to get away from the prosecution and poverty they faced. It was a little sad really. Watching people go. Now it was a still dwindling number of people that lived as gypsies still. She sighed as she studied a few tomatoes. She was thinking of doing beef stew. Fordel, Sparrow's mate and current leader of their family, had slaughtered one of their bulls the other night. Him and one of the other bulls got into a fight. He was not such a lucky bull that night. Fordel decided there was no way to heal the beast so he put him down and carved the animal up, knowing he would help sustain the people who was Nia's family.
She moved through the booths at a leisurely pace, the yellow sarong scarf around her hips swaying and fluttering with the mystic's hips slowly. Nia was looking around the market thoughtfully, a basket full of products she has bought so far, and some she was to sell to Summer Fraisure, the local sales woman of local art. The gypsies have been relying heavily on Mrs. Fraisure sales as of late. There were not many people who wanted much to do with the roaming gypsies on the island. It seemed as she aged more, fewer and fewer people came to see her for their fortunes. Only a few loyal customers continued to return to her.
She was wandering around one of the fruit stands when she noticed the young human by the mangoes. She was beautiful, and she had something very exciting in store for herself to. She could sens it. A tingling of the mind. She reached out and gently wrapped her hand around the girl's arm, wanting to get her attention. "I see a handsome young man in your future." She reacted without even thinking. Sometimes Nia still had a bit of trouble trying to control herself when she saw visions. It was as if the spirits that guided her in her abilities took control of her sometimes. Those deep blue eyes of hers were foggy and not as clear and sharp as they usually were. The first sign that she was having a vision. "A young man who will tip your world upside down."

Humming to herself, her eyes skimmed over the mangos trying to debate if the chef really needed them that very night. There was always the off chance he might change his mind and get testy with her for even thinking of getting something he hadn’t specially asked for. As she swayed from side to side, her mind was far too focused on the fruit then anyone around her. The hand that grabbed her arm caused her to jerk up in shock to see a very beautiful woman with bright red hair that almost made Selena want to wrap her own messy blonde curls under a scarf. “Excuse me?” Trying not to be rude, she gently tugged on her arm unsure of what the woman was speaking up. A handsome man? That might have sounded like a good thing to most women, but she didn’t want some pretty face. Was the woman making some prediction? Her mother had spoken of the gypsies on the island, spoke of how they could see things in the future. It was strange, her mother was very religious but she truly believed in the roaming gypsies. It had rubbed off on her while growing up in her parent’s house so of course as the lady continued to speak she actually started to believe what was being said.
“Miss, are you alright?” Reaching out a hand, she placed it over the one gripping her arm hoping to bring her back around. Staring into the woman’s eyes, Selena was a little worried seeing them fog over making her really wonder what she could possibly be seeing. Hearing that her world would be tipped over didn’t sound like something she wanted to happen. Her life was perfectly fine without a ‘handsome’ man coming in. Besides, she had been given plenty of opportunities to mess around at the palace by a number of handsome men. It wasn’t that she didn’t have a sex drive, it was more like she didn’t want to sleep around with just any guy. Smiling, she couldn’t help but tease. “If he’s going to tip my world upside down, I hope he’s rich.”
“Are you part of the gypsies that roam the island?” Selena’s curiosity sometimes got the best of her as she couldn’t resist asking the woman. In truth, she’d always wanted to go visit them whenever they were close to town but every time she had tried to go something had come up. The first time she had really planned to go, her sister had been attacked by a stray werewolf and needed her help. What could a sister do but stand by her? By this point, she had completely forgotten about the debate she had having with herself over the mangos finding this woman far more interesting to talk to.

Nia didn't hear the question of concern that Selena asked. When she was in such a frenzy of vision like this, only questions and words pertaining to the subject of the vision made it through to her mind. "Oh, rich he indeed is, but not just financially." Selena joked, but Nia was serious. This man... this half-blood would turn Selena's world upside down and all she could think about was how rich he was. "If you wish to keep your world right side up, then beware the half-blood."
Nia shook her head softly, releasing her hold on the woman. She brought a hand up to her forehead as her vision cleared. No more was the half blood man, but the human woman. Her eyes cleared, becoming that sharp pale blue once more. She nodded her head for a moment rubbing at her temples to ease the ache such strong visions as that usually created. When a vision she couldn't control came over her she usually had terrible headaches afterwards. She could usually ignore them and get whatever she needed to over with usually. "Um... yes. But we do not roam the island as much as we used to." She smiled faintly and looked to the mangoes thoughtfully. She might get a couple for the newest pup of the "family." He was a sweet heart and he so enjoyed mangoes and peaches. She looked back up to Selena. It used to be that the gypsies never stayed in one place for more than one night at a time. Back then they faced a lot more prosecution from people who considered themselves to be normal, but the gypsies were no less normal. Just because they had a different way of living didn't make them strange or weird. "I'm sorry to have disturbed you, M'lady... Sometimes the visions have a mind of their own."
It was true enough. If she'd been in control of the vision she never would have done what she just did. She would have found a way to get in contact with the woman and inform her. Either that or just ignore it and go on with her life. She never would have grabbed someone and blurt out that information in the middle of the market. That drew too much attention, and Nia wasn't one to be the center of attention.

The bit about the guy being rich had been a complete joke, as much as a person needed money to get along in the world it wasn’t the main thing she was after out of life. Selena wanted to travel and see the world, family and friends came first always which was why she’d never done so. “Ma’am, I wasn’t serious about the rich part.” A faint blush coated her tan cheeks knowing her mother would had slapped her butt for thinking or even teasing about money when there was a chance for her to have a real relationship. Blinking, Selena wasn’t entirely sure what the all seeing woman meant by the half-blood. A half-blood could have been any number of people that held maybe a mother who was Caucasian and a father who was African. As far as she knew, there was no reason to suspect the ‘handsome’ man to be anything less than human because most of the men she knew at the palace had heads so far up their asses they only gave her a passing glance to see if she would fuck them once then move on the next day. “Guess it’s a good thing I don’t know any.” Laughing lightly, she racked her mind and couldn’t place her finger on any male ‘half-bloods’.
As her arm was released, Selena noticed the woman’s eyes seemed to change colors as if she was awakening from the vision. For that was the only thing she could believe the woman had seen. Some might have ignored the woman’s warning, but she was naturally superstitious from growing up on an island with vampires and werewolves. In the kitchen, if she spilled salt she, without thinking about it, threw a pinch over her shoulder for good luck and to ward of any nasty spirits. “Do you need to sit down for a moment?” This was the first time she’d encountered anyone that could see a vision into the future so there wasn’t a single plan in her mind on how to handle the situation. “You don’t? I might have to go visit you all then. I’ve always wanted to when I was little.”
Her eyes followed the woman’s to the mangos and thought of a way to repay the woman for the vision. “Six, please.” Calling out to the owner, she paid him the coins and wrapped some ripe juicy mangos in a spare scarf she had in her own basket. Turning back to the woman, she held out the mangos with a smile. “Here, a thanks for the warning about the man.” The mangos weren’t much but Selena thought it was the best way to give thanks to the woman in taking the time to pass along her sight. “I’m Selena by the way.”
“No, don’t worry about it. That was actually really interesting to have witnessed. I’ve never had my future told before.” For Selena, the few eyes that watched them around the market were ignored. She was used to being watched and her every actions being scrutinized for faults in her work habits. Instead, she focused on the gypsy woman very curious about her lifestyle and the ways she’d been raised.

Nia smirked faintly. She wished she could know better what exactly was so.. half-blooded about this man, but her visions wouldn't give her any more details. A half-blood could mean almost anything too. She simply shoved it away. Selena would know what she meant when she saw it. "Well... if that's the case you soon will have one in your life." Nia almost wished she could give her more information, but things were not always, completely clear even to her.
She looked to the mangoes, frowning a little as Selena offered them to her. "Please, that is not necessary." She said gently as she pushed the mangoes back towards Selena with a congenial smile. "Besides... you'll need some for the palace chef." She grinned faintly, studying Selena for a moment. She didn't usually turn down tradable items for visions, but because of the circumstances, she wasn't going to allow it. The vision had come upon her without warning and she just spurted it out without trying to control it. When that sort of thing happened, Nia did not require payment. It was an entirely different thing when someone came to her asking specifics from her, then she required some sort of payment. Be it money or goods. "Nia."
She grinned and shook her head. What people didn't realize when they came to a "fortune teller" was that a lot of the fortune was in their hands. They held more control and knowledge over it than the mystic did. The mystic was a type of tool. They could only find aspects of what was to be. From their they gave the one seeking help that knowledge. How they used it was up to them. And if they tried to avoid things that Nia told them about they would end up facing them either way. They might prolong it, but it will happen. And you could change those aspects easily. The same people who came to her on a regular basis had aspects that changed all the time. "Just keep in mind that it's not all set in stone, Selena. Your actions can easily change the future." She spoke with expertise. She new, with enough experience, how easily one aspect of the future could change. And all thanks to this little thing we all called free will.

“I’m not so sure I want one in my life.” Laughing nervously, Selena knew she didn’t like the whole idea of her life being messed around by some guy, no matter how handsome he was supposed to be. If she wanted a crazy life, she’d do it herself. Most of the time, she did a pretty good job of adding spice to her own life. As much as she wanted to be loved by someone, she didn’t need her live being flipped all over itself and not because of a guy. She knew love wasn’t supposed to be easy but what Nia had spoken up didn’t sound like any sort of love Selena knew of.
“Are you-” A sharp ringing forced Selena to stop talking remember the cell phone she had stashed in her other back pocket just encase the chef or anyone at the palace needed to get a hold of her. Reaching back, she pulled out the white and pink hello kitty phone and saw just who was calling, the chef. Now what were those odds? She pressed the button to accept the call before holding the device up to her ear. “Hello?...yes…I can…five enough?…good – bye.” Pressing the end call button, a smirk formed over her lips while looking up at Nia. “I got one too many.” Reaching into the makeshift nap of fruit, she pulled out one mango and reached over to place it in the woman’s basket. The woman wasn’t going to take no for an answer. “It’s been nice meeting you, Nia.” Now she really was interested enough to want to visit the gypsies’ ground very soon. If the woman could see into the future there was no telling the sort of fun people hanging around there. It would be far more fun than anything she’d been doing lately.
“Let me ask you this, if I left the island, would that change anything?” Because there was no hiding how deeply Selena was eager to get off the island. The woman wanted to see the world beyond the tourist that came through mostly in the summer. When it came to all that was out there, she felt like a child when she was really an adult. The only thing that had ever held her back was her family who always seemed to need her whenever she had planned to get away from the tropical island to go anywhere. Chewing down on her lower lip, she didn’t want the woman to know how much the idea of having some guy throw her life into chaos scared her. It was ok if her family added a hint of madness to her life, but a stranger…much less a ‘handsome’ half-blood would tip her over the edge.

She looked at the mango, grinning faintly. She accepted it, knowing that she as a matter of fact would have one extra. She glanced down to her basket thoughtfully. There were few things that Nia could actually cook. She was deplorable at cooking. She could at least make stew. Wasn't that hard to do, but still. That's usually what they ate when it was her night to cook. And sometimes she didn't always hit on the taste. The people around camp didn't complain though. They were happy just to have food in their belly. It wasn't so easy. Their way of life. Pan handling for money with their talents. Telling "fortunes" to feed their bellies. The older children of the camp offered their domestic services to those who had the money to spend, but it was still a hard life. She thought of the boy who would enjoy the mango and smiled. "Thank you." She smiled up at Selena. "I know a young pup who will appreciate your kindness very much."
She grinned and nod." The pleasure was all mine, Selena." She knew when she had a new regular customer, and she didn't need to see the future to figure it out. She always enjoyed picking up new customers. She had so few customers most of the time. It was always a delight to find them. Especially ones like Selena. She could tell Selena would be one of her more pleasant customers. She hated those customers that just bombarded you with question after question even though she explained there was only so much she could tell them before she ran out of questions.
Nia studied the woman intently at her question. It was hard to get an answer to that question though. It took a bit of concentration to focus correctly, and that was easier said than done. It was one thing to calm herself and focus in the room she used in her trailer at the camp, but out here in the middle of the market, there were many more things that could cause distractions and make focusing more difficult. She studied her for a moment once her mind cleared once more. "He will arrive before you ever leave the island." She stated calmly. She wasn't so sure that news would be very welcome, but she asked, and Nia wasn't one for lieing.
