Elina stared at herself in the mirror of the bathroom, rubbing the cold, wet wash cloth over her face. She sighed softly and spit a mouthful of water out and wiped the wash cloth over her face once more. She looked to all the vitamins Dr. Alder gave her. Pre-natal vitamins. That was right. Elina was pregnant. Henry was the father. No one knew yet but Dr. Alder and his father. She didn’t want news of this getting out if Henry didn’t come back. There would be all sorts of speculations and rumors going around if anyone found out she was with pup. There was someone else who needed to know though. Vaan. Ever since she found herself staring at those two pink lines on a home pregnancy test, she tried to decide what she was going to do. Especially if Henry didn’t come back.
If Henry didn’t come back in time for the wedding, she was going to go home. To England. She would probably go to Scotland actually. Her father had a summer home up in the highlands. It was quiet, peaceful, and very secluded from the rest of the world. It was the boondocks of Scotland. It was the perfect place to hide away from the courts. And from Henry. She knew she would be miserable without Henry and Isla de los Lobos, but it was for the best. If Henry even returned, he wouldn’t be ready to be a father. It wasn’t that she thought little of his abilities. It was only that he had some of his own growing up to do before he started a family of his own. No. She would hide away in the highlands of Scotland and Henry could go on with his life.
She sighed and looked around the bathroom for a moment before she went to the bedroom and picked up the phone that sat on one of the night stands. She dialed Vaan’s office. She got the answering machine, closing her eyes she took a deep breath. “Um.. Vaan.. it’s … it’s Elina I was just hoping you could stop by the suite. I have a couple of things I need to talk to you about. “ She hung up, staring at the phone for a moment before she looked around the bedroom.
She hated how lonely this large suite made her feel. It was so big. It was big when she moved in with Henry, but without him… there was just too much space. It was lonely in here, but she didn’t want to go outside either. She didn’t want to face all those people who knew Henry was gone. It was embarrassing. She had kept to the suite ever since Henry went missing two weeks ago. The first few days she waited day and night, thinking that he was just out for a run and would come home soon. Now, she had given up hope, just wanting him to come back to her, but fearing she would never see him again. She took occasional walks to the courtyard. A place where she knew that none of the members of the court would be regularly enough to see her.
So she decided to get out, get a little sunlight and fresh air. She informed one of the guards at the suite’s door where she was going as she left. She went to the courtyard, feeling very much at home there, among the tropical foliage and blooms. Isla de los Lobos was so far south that it hardly ever suffered from the ravages of winter. Other than the winter storms that plagued the sea . She sighed and found a seat near a large bird of paradise, studying it thoughtfully. This was the one place where she came as of late. The rest of the time she just stayed cooped up in her and Henry’s suite. She didn’t really get much sleep. She didn’t do much eating lately because there wasn’t much she could keep down, but when she did eat, it was in the suite. She knew it wasn’t healthy to keep herself locked away up there, but she just didn’t feel like being the social creature she normally was. She just wanted Henry back.

Vaan felt rundown, empty and betrayed by his son. Henry had run away, leaving behind everything. He truly was like his mother now leaving the island. Vaan had searched night and day, his paws were torn and sore by the time he had returned to court.
His spirit lay in ruins at his feet, however he had carry on Elina's sake. She had been completely humiliated by his actions but Vaan would protect her still. The other thing he could do at the moment was paperwork, sighing as he pushed his office door in wards. Another day trapped in this hellhole that was his office, it did not take away the sting of the pain that was his broken heart.
His tired eyes were drawn to his answering machine, the light was flashing. It had a message, quickly he pressed the playback to discover a nervous shuttering Elina, this was not good. Something was wrong. Everything seemed to fall apart around the normally stoic king but now he was worried and anxious at the endless possibilities of what might be discovered.
The paperwork was no longer, no longer a distraction. His mind was running a hundred miles a minute trying to work over this situation, over the many different scenarios that might lay ahead for him. What was troubling Elina, his almost daughter in law? Rushing out of his office, towards the suite in question. Nobles, guards and servants watched on perplexed at their king as he ran through the many corridors between him and his destination.
He arrived, only to be informed that the Lady Elina was not there but in the gardens. This was a good sign, at least she had left the solitude of her suite which she had locked herself inside before now. Turning on his heel, he headed towards the gardens located on the eastern side of the palace. His gardens were full, of life, peace and serenity which he often needed in this chaotic place that he called home. Entering the gardens, taking in the greenery that surrounded him.
Memories of Jane soon filled his mind, this was where he had intended to propose to her, she loved this place. Often Vaan would find his mistress here, attending to the roses giving them love. He would often joke his beloved had green fingers and could make anything grow. Most nobles prefer to avoid this place, this he could not understand. It was a place of true beauty, the scent of Elina brought him back to reality and to why he was here.
“Elina?” He said, his words filled with concern and worry as he tried to get her attention. He had to know what was going through her mind.

Elina was just sitting there, on a stone bench, staring at the bird of paradise. She did not hear Vaan approach. She didn't smell him. She almost didn't hear him. She was so transfixed on the cluster of bird-like petals. Her head lifted and she looked up to Vaan, standing to acknowledge the presence of the king. Henry tended to favor his mother more, but there were times when she saw Vaan in Henry. The flash of his eyes or that handsome grin of his. She suddenly felt about a million emotions run through her, and all of them centered around the broken heart that beat in her chest. She looked away from Vaan, reaching a hand up to wipe at the tears in her eyes.
"Va-an." Her voice cracked and she took a moment to take a deep breath and calm the tears she felt filling her eyes. She looked back up to him, sniffing softly. She was trying to be strong. Not just for herself but for the pup growing in her belly. "I... I'm afraid I have a bit of news." She did not know how Vaan would react to her news. She was suddenly so nervous about telling him. What if he was mad, especially when she told him about her plans to return to England.
She slowly eased herself down to the stone bench, laying a hand over her stomach when she felt a pang of nausea. She couldn't get sick now. She had nothing else left in her stomach. This was so miserable. She wanted to eat. She really did, but how could she when she knew it would not stay in her stomach for more than five minutes. She wanted to just stretch out on the bench and curl up into a ball right there. She resisted the urge thought and looked up to Vaan, brushing some of her hair out of her face. "Vaan... I'm ... I'm pregnant." She practically murmured the words, but she knew he would hear. He had to hear because he had to know. As the grandfather of her pups, and as the king, he had a right to know. What did not feel right about this though was that she was telling Vaan first. Henry was supposed to be the one she was telling first. Not his father. Not her parents or sister. Henry was supposed to be the first person she told that. The father of her pup. She could not meet Vaan in the eyes after that admittance. She didn't know why, but she couldn't. She lifted a shaky hand to her eyes, trying to brush away the tears she felt welling up in her eyes once more, awaiting some sort of reply from Vaan.

If he had been anyone else, had not been the father of her runaway groom, then Elina would have looked like the picture of calmness. The King knew different, it was clear to him and his heightened senses that she was nervous about something. This made him nervous. Instead of taking a seat next to her on the stone bench, he just stood there. His mind turned for a moment to his son and how his disappearance made sore memories resurface. Rebeckah had been the first woman to reject and then completely shatter his heart.
There were times, he would have to close his eyes for a moment. Henry was more like his mother than he knew and Vaan knew her well enough. Elina was now sitting in his shoes, feeling the same heart ache that he had when his queen had up and left him in the dead of the night. This was no pleasant feeling, it felt like the world was coming undone around you, everything had gone tits up when it felt so right. The smell of salt reached his nose, Elina was crying. “You don’t need to hide your tears from me daughter” At the end of the day, in his eyes this sorrow filled young woman was his daughter even if his eldest had not married her.
The sound of her voice cracking tore at his heart strings, this was not meant to be happening to her. It was meant to be Henry here with Elina not his father in his place. He waited patiently to carry on with her news, revealing what this meeting was all about. It was known to him that she had the intention of leaving the island if Henry did not return for the wedding. The finer details had yet to be discussed but he would not stop her if she left. Vaan was not going to force her to remain in a place, where the bad outweighed the good memories. He was not a cruel and heartless King, no that was just a mask he used to protect himself from further heart break.
His eyes widened in surprise. This was something he was not excepting her to say to him, this news was meant for Henry’s ears not his. Vaan stood there completely frozen, shock had set in. This was not the first time he had heard these words. Memories crept in, Rebeckah and Jane entered his mind. Each time had brought such happiness and joy to his world and this would be no different. If someone who didn’t know the context of this conversation entered the garden in this moment, they would believed Elina was now carrying the King’s bastard but no this was not so.
“I must say, I am surprised that you are telling me Elina but it warms my heart to hear this good news” His words were warm and kind, the smile on his lips carried the same message. Vaan was over the moon, imagining the endless possibilities of what his grandchildren might look like but for now he would wait. “What are you going to do now Elina?” He had to ask, since the decision lay in her hands and if and when he would help where he could.

She couldn't help it. A part of her felt so ashamed. She couldn't believe she let this happen. Even if it took two to create the pup. If she had only continued her birth control. To cry in front of him, The King of the Lycans, it made her feel all the more disgraceful. She lost a little control at his words though. She lifted her gaze to him once more, tears suddenly streaming down her cheeks as she met his gaze. She stood, shaking softly and she went to him, pressing close to him and wrapping her arms around him tightly. She buried her face into his chest.
She felt the tears sting her eyes even more at Vaan's words. He was happy. A sense of relief washed over her as she stood there, wrapped around him. Her shoulders slumped a little, but the tears. They only got worse. "I have no one else to tell." She couldn't hold back the tears anymore. She just couldn't. She buried her face into his chest, sobbing softly. "H-h-henry should have been the first I t-told." A soft hiccuping sob escaped her throat as she sat there. Yes, Henry was supposed to be the first person she told. He was the pup's father. He was supposed to be the first to hear the news Not Vaan. Not her parents. Oh, Luna... how could she tell her parents? If she didn't know how Vaan would have reacted to this news, she had no idea how her father would react.
She just wanted to be held. Luna she wished Henry was here to hang onto her. She wasn't even sure if he would be happy about this news. But she just wanted to be held. She had no one to give her comfort when she most needed it. She let out another sob, shaking a little. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the tears. He wanted to know what she would do. She didn't know if her father had talked to Vaan about her plans to go back to England if Henry didn't return in time for the wedding. She sighed and closed her eyes, wiping at the tears that just wouldn't stop coming. "I'm... I'm going to go home to Britain. George has a summer home in highlands of Scotland I can stay at. We can stay at." She murmured softly, laying her hand over her stomach as she thought about her and the pup. She looked up to Vaan, wiping at her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Vaan, but... Henry... If he even comes back... he's not ready to raise a pup. He still has some of his own growing up to do." As much as it pained her to say that, surely Vaan realized the truth of that statement. She wasn't saying that Henry was completely immature. He did have his moments, but ... he wasn't ready to be a father. To care for her and another life. They may have stood a chance with it was just the two of them, but now they were adding a child into the equation.

This was both good and bad news, Vaan was simply shocked but still somewhat happy. He was going to be a grandfather for the third time. First with Neveah then Tatiana a few years later. He loved both girls, they were as beautiful as their mother and as crafty and intelligent as their father. Yes he had only meet them a few times after they had been born but still he adored them so.
The king wanted nothing more than to stand up upon this bench and scream this joyous news at the tops of his lungs, but he resisted. It was joyous to know that Elina carried his son’s child within her womb, however Henry was not here, he was gone and how this troubled his poor, worried father. Vaan hardly slept and when he did, he dreamed only for the past but in Rebeckah’s place stood Henry. He was the one fleeing this time, leaving behind his family and never looked back.
Elina was now standing in his shoes, feeling everything he had felt that dreadful day many years ago when his mate had abandoned him, running with another by her side. Betrayal was never easy to truly recover from but he had. Jane put his heart back together and Dawn was healing his scars, opening his heart completely once more. He was thankful for each woman who had walked into his life when he had needed them most.
His attention now belonged to the sorrow filled Lady Cali, her face buried into his chest seeking comfort as tears streamed down her face like a river which had broken through its bank. His arms almost robotically wrapped around, holding her close like a father shielding his child from the hurtful world, silently telling them it would be alright.
No words escaped his lips, he just listened. Listening to every word, understanding the meaning with ease. Elina wanted to leave the island, leave if Henry did not return in time. It was something he could not deny her as both her King and almost father in law. “Elina, I will not stop you if you wish to leave this court, I will not throw you into the dungeon and force your hand” He promised her softly “All I ask is that you write, send pictures as your child, my grandchild grows” He pleaded, not wanting to shut the door that stood between the two of them.
No matter what happened, Elina would still be part of his family, part of his pack. This child was the link between two families but was not the only thing that keep Vaan wanting to spent time with his young lycan. It was her, her personality that drew him like a moth to a family. Vaan never had been blessed with a daughter and such wanted to spoil Elina, like he spoiled Rachel with all the love and affection his heart could give. “My sweet daughter, I will help you in anyway I can, just ask and it will be done”

Elina looked up to him, sniffling softly as the tears poured down her face. She nodded her head faintly as Vaan asked her to write and to send pictures. She smiled weakly and nodded her head. "I promise I will." She smiled weakly as she pressed close to him once more, seeking comfort. She had not told her parents yet. Mostly because she needed to speak with Vaan of arrangements first. And because she needed his support when it came to talking to her parents.
Vaan agreeing to this was the only way Elina would ever be able to get through to George. Now came the hardest part. She looked down to the ground when Vaan told her to ask whatever she needed of him. "All I ask of you, Vaan is that you will support my decision when I talk to my parents. And I beg that you will not tell Henry of the pup." She wanted Henry to know of the pup. She honestly did, but he was not ready. Elina truly felt it was best this way.
It had not been an easy decision to come by, but she had to decide. Her future and the future of her pup depended upon it. She looked up to Vaan after a moment, taking a deep yet shaky breath to try and stop the tears. "I'm sorry it had to come to this, Vaan, but I hope you realize I can never love another as I do Henry." Her tears filled once more with tears but they did not spill. She was too stubborn to let them go. She couldn't stay here though. All the memories cut so deep when she was in that suite. All the memories in other parts of the castle and island cut so deep. Elina could not handle many more cuts to her already broken heart. She had to get away from here. Off the island. As far away from Henry as she could should he ever return to his home. Secluded in the highlands of Scotland.
Maybe some day she would return. Maybe some day she would reveal her pup to Henry and the entire court. For now though, she had to leave.

The thought of losing contract with Elina, tore at his heart. She was dear to the aging king, she was like a daughter much like Rachel. Having no daughter of his own, he spoilt both his daughter in law and the sniffling woman before him. She carried the future of his pack within her and soon she and her unborn child would be lost to him, with only letters and the occasionally phone call to keep him in their life. It would Vaan standing on the outside looking in when the letters with photos landed upon his desk. It was not what he wanted but this was her life and keeping her prisoner, locked within her suite was not the life he wanted for Elina.
“You know, there is always a chance Henry will return in time. We must cling to hope, for it is all we have” He tried to consult her with the thought of his son returning, his mind changed and return to embrace the future with her. The words that fell from her mouth, shocked the king. He had not thought she would ask such a thing of him. To deny knowledge of this child to it’s father, his son. “Elina, I will support you decision when you face your parents but asking me to deny knowledge of this child to my son is too much” He told her confidently, frowning at the very thought of carrying such a task. It walked a morally grey line, one step to far for Vaan.
He sighed, taking in her words understanding how she felt. There was time when the king had thought he would never love again, the way he loved his darling Jane but Dawn had changed everything. “I feared it might come to this but we can not control fate. I understand Elina what you have feeling but take each day as it comes. He started, knowing that his words might comfort his distressed almost daughter in law. “The heartache will never go away but the moment you hold your child, you will a love unlike any other. It will help” Vaan knew the love felt when his children were placed in his arms for the first time, his heart had swelled that he feared it would burst as he smiled down at the gurgling babe. Each time had been the same, first with Henry then with Richard.
It had saved him, the paternal love for his children had saved from complete and utter despair. He hoped it do the same with Elina.

She shook her head weakly, taking a deep shaky breath. "I will not ask you to change how you feel, but it is not so easy for me to have that hope. I grow weary with all the hope and waiting." She murmured weakly. She did. She had spent night after night alone in her suite. A suite that had Henry in every inch of it some how or another. It only made the waiting worse. And that bed. That bed felt so large and lonely without his warm body next to her. Even though she laid in those sheets most of the day, burying herself in the scent of Henry and his chocolate body wash. She did not wish to live in the loneliness if Henry were never to return. She would go mad if she did.
She knew it hurt for her to ask him not to say anything to Henry. She knew it would hurt to keep such a secret from his son, but Henry couldn't know. "I know and I hate to ask it of you, but if he does return after I've left... he can't know. He will come looking for us, and I will always question why he took me back if he does." She hiccuped out a sob and covered her mouth for a moment, taking a deep breath to try and calm herself. She did not want Henry to find her and drag her back because she was pregnant. If he were to do that, she would forever question her husband's love for her. "He's not ready to be a father, Vaan." She looked away, wiping at tears. And that was how Elina felt. She had felt like he was ready to create a family. She thought he would be a good father when the time came for pups. Then he left and she discovered she was pregnant. She never even got to tell him. She didn't want Vaan to have to keep the fact that she was pregnant from Henry, but it was best. She wished she knew how to explain it to Vaan, but she didn't. She didn't want Henry to come looking for her. She knew him well enough to know that if he knew she was pregnant he would come after her. She didn't want that. She just wanted him to go on with his life and her with her own.
She knew it would not be easy with the pup, but she could be happy with her life as long as she had a part of Henry with her. That pup was the one thing that she would love more than anything or anyone else. And he or she would grow up away from the gossip, the scrutinizing eyes, the wagging tongues. Her child would be safely tucked away from the worries of court. Safe. The two of them would live together happily in the highlands of Scotland. Well... at least that was Elina's hope.
