That mate of hers was testing that last of Rachel’s patience. If he insisted on working until he passed out in his office could he at least be curtsies enough to have one of the guards inform her about what time he did finally fall over asleep in his office. The clock chimed out three times softly in her dark room, it was three in the morning and he still wasn’t in bed. She loved her mate, but his constant working was straining their relationship and the one he barely had with his daughters. They knew everything he did was for them, but pups need more than words from one parent to reassure them they were loved. Luna, she loved her mate but sometimes she wanted to hit him upside the head for taking on so much. He was one Lycan, not a God. Groaning, she lifted herself off from Richard’s side of the bed where his scent still clung to the sheets. The slight chill in the air brushed against her bare shoulders causing her to shudder. She pushed the blanket off her body to climb out of bed. How many nights would it be now that she had to go hunt her mate down and coax him into bed?
Shaking her head to force her hair out of her eyes, Rachel grabbed an over sized shirt off the floor, from the scent on it one of her mate’s, and covered her body with it. Stealing his clothes had become a bad habit of hers that neither of them was willing to break. For Rachel, his shirts covered her body without too much clothes and were easy to take on and off. For Richard, as far as she could tell, he rather liked the idea of her being wrapped in his scent constantly, a small reminder of who her mate was. As if anyone didn’t already know. A small smirk tugged at her lips while she finally left the bedroom. Her feet barely brushed against the green carpeting while making a detour to Nevaeh’s room. Peeking in, she saw her oldest daughter asleep in her bed, nothing smelt or looked out of place so she quietly left. The door next to Nevaeh’s room was Titania’s room which Rachel snuck a look inside and once more was satisfied both girls were asleep for the night.
Rachel exited the Forest Suite to navigate down the hall knowing the exact amount of steps it would take to locate her husband in his office and return back to bed. Passing by guards, she gave them sweet smiles while keeping a strong confident walk down the hall acting as if she wasn’t only wearing a large shirt and nothing else. The first couple of times had caused a stir but after twenty five years of being married sneaking around the palace with a male’s shirt as her only covering wasn’t anything new. If anyone was stupid enough to think she was sleeping with another male they would deal with her nasty side in person, followed by a side conversation with Richard’s side he rarely showed to the world.
Passing closed doors of bedrooms and finally entering the actual work part of the large, which was an understatement, house, Rachel ignored anyone that might be still up having no time for anyone else but her Richard. He was going to be the death of her if she didn’t die from complications of birthing pups, not that she was pregnant right then but it was more of another snide rumors going around about her small frame. Seeing the wooden doors she wanted, she paused outside of them and even knocked softly, if he was up, Richard’s hearing would pick up the sound in a matter of seconds if not less. “Rick? Love?” Curling her fingers around the handle, she lightly applied a small bit of force to turn the door knob and force it to open.

Entering into the office of Richard Niall one could tell just how over worked he was. His desk was coated in mounds of paperwork that either had been gone over or that he was trying to finish up. Requests for repairs in different parts of the city. Each paper was menial and he wondered how he could ever manage to get caught up. Of course it wasn't like he had a choice, someone had to complete the work and his brother didn’t know how to crawl out of bed to look at any form of writing. The problem was that how did he balance the precarious perch of work and family life. Every day he told himself he would give up earlier and yet somehow he ended up staying later. He tried to remember the last time he had actually spent a full night with his wife. A dinner with his daughters. Or even in the small joy of running within the forests around his city. Yet here he was in the depths of darkest night working away. Exhaustion creeping upon him as words began to blur before him. His ears twitched as he heard something, it was near impossible to sneak up on his sensitive ears. Blame the fact that he payed attention for the beating of a heart and one could understand why it wasn’t possible to sneak up on him. At the moment he wondered who it was that would be coming near to his office, of course it only took him a short moment longer for him to realize who it was, Rachel... she was here to get him already, was it already so late... had he once again broke his promise to her. “Rick? Love?” A yawn came from his lips as he stood stretching out his lanky form. He hadn't moved in, honestly he couldn’t remember the last time he had stood from his desk or even looked at how horribly full his office looked. Books on Lycan law littered the walls others on history dappled points upon the shelving. He was trying to find a way to help the few cases he wanted to take before his father. Things needed to change, and he was tired of the chancellor standing in his way. In the end the only way through the man was slowly shifting to a desire to cut his slimy tongue from his lips so that he couldn’t twist the words of another any more. Moving from behind he stared at the clock on the wall and could have sworn it was much earlier than it told him it was. Was it really so late that he was only going to get 3 hours of sleep this night. Perhaps he should just stay and work through the day get some more time in. Maybe get a pile of the morass gone. Finally though he just sank to the floor under the window his head staring upwards as he felt the cool stone of the palace against his back. He could hear Rachel through the door and even the door as it slid open. “I'm here Rachel... I was just about to come to bed...” It was a lie of course and she would know as soon as he spoke it. He had of course planned on getting to bed earlier it was just the work, no matter how much he worked he only got shoved with more. Eventually it was going to swallow him whole and that would leave him with nothing more. He wondered why it was that he spent as much time working as he did. That thought ended at the tip of his tongue when he saw her enter his office. The set of her face, the way her eyes seemed to shine in the light that was left within the moon. It was no small wonder that he had fallen in love with her as soon as he had seen her. Even the fact that she was in nothing more than one of his shirts made him wish once more that he wasn’t the Duke, that perhaps it was best left in the hands of someone with more experience. That perhaps he needed a holiday, a long one with his family. Honestly he felt his father was pushing him towards it. His father wanted Nevaeh and Titania to come to court, he and Rachel wanted them as far from court as possible. The idea of packing up and leaving was strangely appealing to him as he stared out at the moon.

Stepping into the office, Rachel was a little more taken back by how much messier the place seemed to get each day…night she had to collect Richard from it. Books on books on books lined the walls and she sometimes wondered if one Lycan could live long enough to read every single one packed in the office. Her eyes roamed over the papers, not pausing long to guess what each Lord or pack wanted from the King or Richard. She wasn’t there to cause trouble by snooping through the papers; she was there to collect her mate who had a tendency to avoid their bed. If she didn’t know better, she’d swear he didn’t care about her. Thankfully, her confidence wasn’t shaken so easily. For as long as the she-wolf knew him, Richard had always been taking on more than his shoulders could hold up for the world. He wasn’t a man to roll over for anyone, but when he put his head towards something it got done no matter what. Even at the expense of his family.
It took a moment to over look the mess before Rachel’s bright blue eyes located the man she was after over by the window. His body looked stiff as if he hadn’t moved for hours, her money was on he hadn’t moved since lunch if not before that. Sometimes, it frightened her how some days he’d appear to be a perfectly healthy Lycan and others he’d look on the edge of death. It tore at her heart each time knowing there wasn’t much she could do but support him and love him.
There had been no attempt on her part to sneak into the office since Rich’s ears were better than most males she knew. However at his word, she cut her eyes, glaring straight at his head, her nose easily picked up the strange scent that came when anyone attempted to lie to her. It was hard to describe in words, it was part a gut feeling and part something that just smelled off about the other beings scent. And she knew Richard’s scent inside and out. It was warm, strong, and reminded her of hot summer nights by the beach or in the caves with a fire going with marshmallows being roasted. Walking over to him by the window, she tried to keep a calm head, reminding herself her man was tired and didn’t need to be nagged right then. Maybe in the morning after breakfast and a lot of coffee to wake him up.
“Would you like time to rethink that lie?” Placing her hands on her hips, Rachel stared down at her mate in a very demanding way, but her eyes were full of love for the over worked wolf. Whether from her mate, her children, or even her father in law, Rachel didn’t like being lied to. It was hypocritical since she would lie if it helped either herself or the other person, but when it stared her in the face there was no chance the other was going to get away with it. Sighing, she couldn’t even stay mad at him very long when he looked like hell. It wasn’t fair that all she wanted to do was hold him close instead of hit him over the head with a book.
“Let’s get you to bed. You look practically dead.” Crouching down, she got down to his eye level, offering him a warm smile and a helping hand. Knowing she should resist the small temptation in the back of her mind, Rachel couldn’t stop herself from leaning in to place a soft kiss over his lips. Her wolf needed to feel her mate’s lips against her own for just a moment to keep herself from snapping at him for over doing it…again.

He knew he had of course phrased his words incorrectly, blame the sleepless nights as he wondered how it seemed that the work he did seemed to come back. It all felt like a boomerang... to throw it only to have it come back to catch him unawares upon the snout. For a moment he glowered at his massive desk and contemplated setting the whole room on fire. In the end though he found his eyes drawn up the slight frame of his mate. He had promised himself to her years before... long before she even remembered. “Would you like time to rethink that lie?” “Okay, I was planning on coming home and then I lost track of time... at some point around noon... I think” When was the last time that he had checked the clock and what mundane document had him pouring over his files and books for the last 15 hours. Even realizing the amount of time that had escaped him only made him feel even worse about the whole situation. He was, in his mind a horrible father, leaving his daughters to be raised by Rachel and he wondered when it was that he had last just been still enough to watch them be kids. So much time had been lost and yet before, when he was younger he had always found time to be with Rachel. Now he felt like someone was taking that time from him. Sighing he looked up at his mate, he knew she was disappointed in him, that he hadn’t been able to get home. That it seemed work was tearing them apart. Then their was all the details, his father wanting the girls to be presented to the court... and who knew what else he had in mind. Perhaps he wanted to marry them off to some pup. Honestly the Idea made his hackles raise. After all, the marriage between him and Rachel worked simply because it was who he was meant to be with, he could hardly imagine himself with any other being as a mate. Of course he had lived most of his life knowing he was to be with her, and as such tried to shape himself into a person that was worthy of her love and admiration. Honestly though his position on the cold floor was rather comfortable at the moment and he really didn't feel any desire to move let alone go to bed, of course being able to hold her against him in sleep would be a welcome change for a night. It honestly was looking like a better idea to give up on the chaos of his office for one day. He deserved a day off didn't he. After all spending all his time in an office was only going to lead him into being a hermit that didn’t know anything about his children. Already he knew almost nothing of his daughters other than what he saw when he peeked in on them at night as he stumbled to his bed half dead with exhaustion. “Let’s get you to bed. You look practically dead.” Did he look that bad... he thought it over and tried to remember when the last time he had enjoyed a relaxing bath. A night just curled up with his mate. Listening to the beat of her heart in the depths of the night. In the dark he could see her stunningly bright blue eyes looking at him. Her lips caress was enough to burn away the exhaustion that was in his mind. How often was it that her lips had done that to him and he constantly wondered if he would ever tire of the feel of her touch and the desire that sprang up in him like a rising tide. He couldn’t help but respond to her kiss his hands moving to the nape of her neck and curling into her long hair. Like it always did the kiss never seemed to last as long as he wished it to, he wanted to stay like this his lips locked to hers and his body pressed to her for life and yet he knew that in his office was the last place he should be mating with her. Though on the other side of things, He honestly just wanted to run away from the office, from work and be alone just her and their daughters... a few years alone without work would do amazing things for them and more than that it would keep his father from being able to trick them into bringing the girls to court. Letting one hand run from her neck to her hand he held it lightly within his paw as he remembered the first time he had held her hand. The way his heart had been beating like crazy even with the 13 years that had separated them. Since then they had grown to know each other to well at times he felt he could almost read her mind, and that she his own. “It doesn’t ever end Rachel... I feel like I'm drowning under it all, I sit here and fight and claw for a free space and yet somehow I get crushed back into this place. The only time I ever get out of here anymore is when I'm in court and then I'm so bedraggled and exhausted that I cant think strait.” When it came to it, Rachel was the only one he ever let hear his doubts, that he lay his heart out to. Of course that may in fact be part of why he loved her as much as he did. Why he doubted he could last without her at his side. Without her life would lose its meaning and duty would have no purpose to his life. At the moment he really didn’t have the desire to move but he knew he would he just needed a moment to vent as he let his hand twined with her own pull her onto his lap on the floor.

The tired grayish blue eyes that stared up at Rachel nearly broke her heart from the amount of stress lying in those orbs. She stood by her mate no matter what but she wished she could convince him to take some time off. If things got any worse she was going to go behind his back and speak to his father about the ridiculous work load being poured over Richard. She was sick of him being stuck in this office all day neglecting his daughters and the rest of his family. Disappointment didn’t cross her mind because she wasn’t. If anything, she was proud of everything he did. She loved how dedicated he was, but everyone had their limits. There was nothing perfect about her mate, she loved his imperfections. His temper which he kept buried behind his cold face while in court had a way of stirring her blood into a warm boil.
“Richard, hun, you’re over doing it. You’re worrying me.” Her voice was low, not so much a purr as a strain. Her fear for his health shined through her eyes while taking in every detail of his condition. This softer side of the Duchess was only shown to immediate family when they were out of sight of unwanted eyes. For her mate, she showed her true colors easier than any other person, even her own parents rarely got to see or hear what she was truly thinking. All the blame was placed on the pressure she was constantly under from those around her. The only one who never tried to mold her into some pawn was Richard and her daughters. For them, she would gladly give up everything without a fight.
Drifting into the past for a moment, Rachel thought about all the time they’d spent together when she was eighteen after his father finally nudged him towards interacting with her. It had been weird to be so bashful around anyone after most of that had been snapped from her mind by either her mother or her tutors. Of course, bashful had only lasted the whole of five minutes before her young mind had naturally gone to the first thing any average young woman would have while staring at her future mate. Even back then she knew she was destined as Richard’s mate. It was hard to tell if it was because she had been engaged to the Duke or if it was fate that she had fallen so hard for him, but either way she did love him.
Shutting her eyes, Rachel was more than enjoying the gentle kiss returned by Richard. The feeling of hands entering her hair nearly made her moan at the contact. The young she-wolf had been missing the small touches between them and had become even more sensitive. Richard’s warmth was addicting making her wanted to curl up against his side like they use to do when they were first mated. And his lips…well, she was about to go insane with lust. With a deep sigh, she pulled away from the kiss with a soft smile well placed on her lips. The large callous hand that ran over her neck caused her to purr softly, leaning into the hand until it moved to rest in her own open hand. Her tapered fingers curled around his hand savoring the touch more than she wanted him to know. Looking down at their joined hands, she couldn’t stop from chuckling under her breath. “Remember when you couldn’t seem to stop holding my hand right after you father finally convinced you to stop avoiding me?” A better time frame for that would have been after Henry had cornered her in a hallway one late evening, not that Rachel knew Richard had threatened his brother afterwards.
“Is it the Chancellor’s doing?” There was no stopping the deep growl in her voice or the fire that roared to life in her eyes. If that man was causing her mate trouble, Rachel would find a way to make his life a living hell in return. Taking a deep breath, she tried to remove the red haze that had filtered over her vision thinking about removing the Chancellor’s spine with her claws. It wouldn’t have surprised her if that ass was doing all this to prevent Richard from making any progress with his helping out Raphael and Eva. A soft squeak came passed out her lips when she was dragged into her mate’s lap, throwing her off balance and landing with her face in his shoulder. Her arms instantly wrapped around his waist after realizing her new location on him.
“This hasn’t improved your need for sleep.” That didn’t stop her from nuzzling his neck to take a deep whiff of his scent into her nose. Smiling against his neck, her fingers curled around the fabric of his shirt wishing to remove it with her nails.

“Richard, hun, you’re over doing it. You’re worrying me.” He knew he was overdoing it, but who else would actually do the work... It wasn't like their was any chance of his brother ever actually doing anything other than sleep around and cause trouble. He could hear the strain and worry in her voice, but that was a side effect of having spent as much of his life around her as he had. He could pick up on the emotional cues within her voice. Tell her very mood at times by the tone of her voice. He hated to worry her and he knew she was telling the truth. Either way he needed to change something, this invisible game was starting to cause trouble and he needed to do something that would change it. Honestly he wondered at times if their was a lycan that could tame his brother... make him a better person. It would be a challenge to find someone suitable, a wolf willing to flirt and catch his eye but make him actually work for her attention. “Is it the Chancellor’s doing?” It was a question that he often asked himself as the Chancellor, it seemed, was getting his hands mixed into pots that never used to be his to play with. How often had Richard lay awake wondering what was going on that his father was to blind to what was going on around him. Things that he would never have needed a second thought about he needed council for, and more often than not even with the arguments presented by himself or even the Noble houses he would follow the path of Keven. Of course he always seemed to be more clear upon his thoughts when Rachel was near. Not only that but she had a unique point of view and in the end it seemed that ever so slowly the Duke and his Duchess were being shorn of ties of power and soon they would be trapped in an island with nothing but enemies. “He has his hands in everything these days... I hear his name on everyone’s lips... Plus you have seen father in court... He agrees to everything that snake says.” His own voice grew heated at his words much as Rachels had. It only caused him to pull her closer to listen to the beating of her heart and feel her breath against his skin. He honestly needed this moment holding her to bring back the reality of what was truly important. So often he would just get lost within the chaos that rippled through the offices. Sometimes it just took a moment to touch and feel her against him to remember where his actual duties were. He could feel her arms around his toned waist and her face against his shoulder. It was a comfort to him that as relatively young as they were to other werewolves that they could at times become the pups they had been when they had first started on their journey together. “This hasn’t improved your need for sleep.” He noticed the scent of her, something like the forest, fresh and lively. It tended to stir a need in him when he let himself hold her like this, of course that was just the simple fact that he spent altogether to much time bulling his head through work. Somehow though it was hard to be as hardheaded and stubborn where it concerned her. Not that he blamed her for that it was after all his own fault that he had allowed himself to become so captivated by the damsel. Of course he could tell by the way she was sitting and how her hand rested upon his shirt how badly she desired to take him. Or at the very least get him out of the clothing. “Perhaps it is time to get back to our room... though I'm not sure if its sleep that I want at the moment.” His words came as a low whisper in her ear as slipped his hands under her in his lap, a childish grin spreading across his lips as he stood. Pulling her up with him, mainly due to a desire to remind himself of what he needed. Some time to clear his head. Of course he also wondered just how annoyed everyone was going to be to find out that the Duke for whatever reason chose to run off and not come to work for a few days... after all if his brother could ignore his duties all the time, he could focus on the duties of a mate and a Father for a few as well.

Rachel didn’t know what she was going to do with her mate if he kept going on the path he was headed. She loved him more than her own life, more than she loved to run in the forest under the full moon. However, the pain he was putting himself through for their kind and those that came before the King wishing for an audience was starting to take a real toll on him. There was only so much he could do by himself and someone was clearly adding more and more on top of his already large stack. Personally, it was starting to cut into their relationship and the fragile one he held with his daughters and that was pissing her off the most. Clearly, someone wanted to die if she found out who was piling everything on him. Oh yes, she would kill someone for messing with her mate like this. No one was allowed to cause him trouble but her.
It would have been too easy if Henry took his life serious for a change. Rachel wasn’t asking for him to give up on screwing ever girl that walked, but focusing for at least seven hours on real work that didn’t involve removing a woman from her clothes would be nice. Maybe instead of trying to shove work down Henry’s throat, Rachel could locate a real woman for the prince. A woman who knew what she wanted and wouldn’t give it to him without a change in his character. The idea that Henry might work if motivated properly to help Richard’s work load was a worthy goal for her. It would take some investigation on her part, but if it could prove fruitful then maybe life would have one less ripple in it.
“Yes, I’ve seen your father in court.”Pursing her lips, Rachel thought back to what she constantly saw. The King was far too depended on the Chancellor when he should have asked the opinion of the Noble House leaders and his own son instead of a man who should have been doing nothing more than supplying information, not opinion. Normally she kept quiet off to the side close to Richard to avoid the attention she naturally gained from admiring nobles and ladies. Maybe it was time she took a new handle on her father in law instead of making small comments late at night right before she left the throne room. Taking a large stance in the court could mean setting Richard and herself up for a backlash of a loss of allies, but for the sake of her family she was willing to do so. If she had to stand and take any hit thrown at him, she would do it. “Maybe I should take a more active role.” The downside was the more she spoke up in direct court, the more it was a reminder of her two daughters that were absent before Vaan. A good reason she kept silent aside from not wanting to snap at the ladies who fluttered eye lashes at the king or even her mate.
The tightening of the arms around her caused Rachel to nuzzle Richard’s neck affectionately feeling safe by being close to his body. Her ears picked up the soft thump created by his heart reminding her of the lullaby she sang to their daughters when they were younger and couldn’t sleep. Her nails tugged on his shirt slightly until the sound of them cutting slits into the fabric forced her to grin impishly up at him. It was one of his favorite shirts too she knew from how many times he’d worn it. She just wanted to see something on his face besides weariness and stress. Even if it was anger or annoyance at her. Either one would tell her he was still alive and not some zombie.
Out of reflex, her legs wrapped around Richard’s waist when he sprang to his feet taking her with him. This hadn’t been in her mind when she had gotten out of bed to collect him. But it was working out a lot nicer than what she had thought about. “You drop me, you’re a dead Lycan.” The words were a real threat but at the same time, her voice was heated and whispered in his ear allowing her to breathe hot air into his sensitive lobes. She had no clue where his sudden strength came from and wasn’t sure if she should fully trust him to hold her up. However, her arms shifted from around his waist to around his neck so her finger tips could play with the ends of his slightly curling hair. She wasn’t going to freely admit how instantly excited she was hearing his words about heading to the room but sleep wasn’t what he had in mind.

It was odd how things just seemed to happen around him, when she had come into his office he was hardly thinking of what he was practically throwing himself into at the moment. Yet there he was his arms around her as her body pressed against him. Her own legs wrapped around him and her slender and yet strong arms wrapped around his neck. Honestly he hardly realized why he was reacting how he did until he began to register the faint scent of her. The small alteration that brought forth his more primal urges. He wondered how many times in the last 25 years he had simply not noticed when she was in Heat, when her body was prepared to carry a litter of pups. On the other hand it was likely that he had never chosen to pay that much attention to the specific scent of her on those times of the month that her body was fertile. He also noted that at some point between the movement her nails had cut through his shirt, Oh it was a nice shirt but honestly his mind was beginning to find itself heady with arousal. “You drop me, you’re a dead Lycan.” He let out a laugh at the thought of dropping her, he would never do that... Plus she would probably go through with the threat if he ever did. Okay he had hope that he would survive but that didn’t mean he didn’t have reason to fear her ire. When it got down to it as much as he loved her and would put his life forward to protect her and their children. As it was the way he held her put her at a height that he didn’t have to bend down to let his lips grace her own as his hands grasped her just a little tighter to her firm toned ass. In so doing he came upon the realization that nothing graced the flesh of her under his shirt causing his eyebrow to raise his interest in nothing more than getting her back to their suite... If he managed to get her that far. “I would hardly consider dropping one as stunning as yourself Duchess... I think the Duke might kill me if he ever found out harm came to his lady by my hand...” He stated with a light chuckled letting his lips trail between murmured words along the line of her jaw to her ear and then slowly down her neck. It was nerve wracking having the heady scent of her filling his nose. Even if as he held her he moved following the path so ingrained into his mind that he hardly had to pay any attention. His door, to the office for the first time in long months found itself not only closed but even locked to all entry. He could hear of course the murmurs of the other wolves in the hall as he walked past his mate wrapped around his body with what was left of his shirt hanging from his shoulders and yet still showing his toned physique. On the other hand he really wanted to get her out of his shirt... On the other hand he didn’t want anyone staring at his mate... even if they were all getting a chance to see her bare ass do to his hands holding her Cheeks to held contain her body as he walked her to the room. It honestly didn’t take him long to get to their room and slip into the private confines of the suite. For a moment he paused letting his ears focus in the directions of his daughters rooms. From the sounds of their gently breathing they were both sleeping deeply. As he crossed the thick plush carpeting of his room for a split moment wondering where he had discarded his shoes only to decide it didn’t matter as he rarely if ever actually wore them. Part of him wished to just curl up in front of the low flames of the fire. How long had it been since they had been truly alone and been able to just sit and let their bodies speak to each other before a fire falling asleep curled around each other and yet he hardly felt it was the right sort of thing they should show their daughters as he continued along the length of the living room of the suite. It was luck that found his door open and the sheets seemingly beckoning to him to take his wife upon the bed. How could he deny her. It was his duty as his mate to ensure that her needs were met and yet he could hardly remember the last time he had let himself be with her. Blame the fact that he was always away. Throwing himself into work like a ravening beast with nothing more to do. As her husband, the one mated unto her to life he had as much if not more of a duty to her and their pups than to his work and yet how easy was it to lose track of the importance of his family. His breathing oddly found itself deepening in lust, has his heart hammered in his chest as it had so many long years before. The same nervous anticipation of the moment trickling through his body. His hair falling across his eyes for a moment as did as he swore not to do. He dropped her upon the bed his own body following her down to stare into her glorious blue eyes. One hand raising to cup the delicate flesh of her cheek and slip a few straw strands of golden lockes of her cascading tresses to the side to let his eyes fall upon the glory of her features. None to him held more beauty than she that lay beneath him. How long he had wanted her and yet how long he had waited upon her to make that decision to take him as her mate. For even Betrothed it was not a choice he would strip of her. He wanted her to make that choice. “So then one who owns my heart so tightly within her grasp... Shall you end me for dropping you... or shall I survive the night to perform the duties placed upon me as your husband?” His words were harsh and filled with the ecstasy of lust rippling through his body in a tightly coiled spring. Even as his spoke he could feel his free and running up under the loose shirt that was his and yet covered her physical form on her journey to summon him unto her. Heat flitted in his eyes as he noted the skin under the shirt his hand causing it to ride up revealing more of her delicate frame beckoning to him, Tantalizing him under his vision.

It took a moment for it to connect in her mind why she was acting so needy for her mate beyond how she normally was. Rachel wanted to curse at her body’s poor timing the second that spicy scent that was rolling off her skin in waves crashed into her nose. Her poor mate never stood a chance against not falling under the heated scent that demanded he mate with her like the animals they both were. If she was a nobler woman, she would have told Richard to stop and take a minute to clear his mind and nose. Normally at that time in the month, she purposefully avoided both her mate and the court trying to stay as far away from trouble as possible. The throne room was normally already in chaos without one female in heat to add to the madness in that room. Right then, her tongue was heavy causing her to pant softly trying to keep from shoving him back to the floor and having her way. Doing it in his office might have left a bad impression on everyone else, but Rachel was getting to the point she didn’t care as long as she finally got her hands around her mate. Finding her nails had torn through his shirt, she couldn’t stop her hands from dragging down his back to pull it part until it hung in tatters on his shoulders and at his biceps. When Richard laughed at her threat, Rachel arched an eyebrow at him while leaning back slightly to look him in the eyes. Did he not think she was serious? Being dropped wasn’t anything fun and she didn’t wish to live through the harsh fall. Besides, her butt would likely bruise badly if she did take a tumble. Those thoughts were shut off the second his lips were moving against her while he held up by higher by her butt. A deep purr rose from within her chest to vibrate slightly. There wasn’t even a slight blush on her face when Richard finally realized the shirt was her only clothing to cover her body. In fact, a smirk took over her face while she wiggled her hips slightly so her bottom rolled in his hand. Sleeping in the nude had only become a new habit for the young Duchess where she only kept a robe or shirt either on the floor or at the end of the bed.
“The Duke will kill you if he finds out where your hands are right now.” Smirking at her mate, she leaned forward and started to nibble on his ear lobe. Her nose was positioned right behind his ear were she could get a large whiff of his scent making her mouth water just as her heart began to pound against her ribs. The presence of his lips trailing over her neck caused Rachel to tremble in her mate’s arms instantly losing her teasing bits on his ear. At that point her nails began to lightly scrap over his toned back leaving pinkish marks in their wake. It wasn’t until they were in the hallway waking away from his office that her mind slowly attempted to brush the hazy film off her brain. At the late hour, she wondered why so many Lycans were wondering around in the hall and could only guess they were servants. It dawned on her while still shaking off her lusty mood right then, her ass was bare to the world since Richard was carrying her.
They must have been causing quite a scene in the hallway if whispers were already flying in the air when Richard rushed by. Then again, their love life was kept as far from the sights of others as possible. Not that they’d had a love life lately since he’d been doing so much damn work lately. Doing both his and Henry’s work was starting to take a huge chunk out of their romance and passion, it was slowly killing Rachel not to show her mate any love. It seemed that at least, she’d be granted one night of fiery love like when they’d first started on this marriage. Knowing she was thinking too much, her body felt like everything was rubbing it the wrong way. The fabric of the shirt was too heavy over her skin. The shreds of Richard’s shirt brushed against her causing a sensation of great importance to get the damn thing off him soon. So great, she actually growled softly before completely pulling the last of the bits off his flesh in frustration. The scraps were scattered on the floor leading to their room leaving little to the imagination of anyone who came across them. The sight of all his skin flexing and bunching from his movements caused that lustful light to shin out from her eyes.
The loss of any whispering caused Rachel to look up taking in their new location, their bedroom. Staring in his eyes, she watched him pause for a second as if listening for something. Her eyes naturally went to the girls’ rooms keeping her own ears wide open. The only sound was soft snoring followed by deep breathing. She couldn’t get a word in before her mate was once more on the move, carrying her to the bedroom. The bed sheets were still thrown back after her leaving in a hurry to locate him to bring him back for sleep. Well, that was one mission completely. Rachel had found her husband…but sleep wasn’t going to happen. Not that she was going to voice any complaints.
“Richard!” Her voice called out when she was thrown but kept as quiet as possible in case the girls were not completely dead asleep yet. The cry was cut off when his body landed on top of hers forcing her to arch up to brush his hard body against her softer one causing her eyes to roll up in obvious pleasure. The hand cradling her cheek brought her back to reality, opening her eyes she stared up at Richard’s with a gentle smile tracing her mouth. Reaching up, her fingers brushed a few stray strands of his dark brown hair out of his eyes feeling her heart lurch out seeing the admiration, desire, and love in them. She knew her own eyes would reflect the same exact emotions.
It had taken her months to realize he was waiting for her to make the first move into their relationship when he never made an advance on her. Hell, his brother wasted no time the moment she had been officially introduced in court as Richard’s future bride. That was a time long before their marriage and it had been the strangest event Rachel could think of to be engaged to one of the King’s sons while the other came on to her. The first couple nights of their marriage were so passionate; it was strange she hadn’t gotten pregnant those first nights.
“How about we talk about it in the morning, because if you don’t finish what you started I’m going to go find someone that can.” It was an empty threat since she knew no one else would be enough to complete her the way Richard did, but normally that threat was enough to get him to stop teasing her. A shudder rushed up her spine when the sudden cool air began to brush against her thighs as the over sized shirt was slowly pushed up her legs. Watching her mate’s eyes, Rachel’s breath stilled in her throat spotting the heat there forcing her toes to curl wait for what he was going to do next.

How long had it been since he had felt the pull of need as it rippled through his body. Months perhaps, maybe longer he could hardly remember even what it felt to feel her beneath him. Yet here he was the exhaustion pulled from his mind as the adrenaline of lust rippled through his body. Had it been any other women before him, he would have never reacted as he was at this moment. Yet here he was kneeling above her body, so close to tearing himself apart to get into her. His animal trying to break out and ravage his mate. Even if she was to try and stop this, he doubted he could actually stop himself from going forth. It was something he needed as thoroughly as the air he breathed. In her eyes he could see the same emotions that hurtled through his blood and body. “How about we talk about it in the morning, because if you don’t finish what you started I’m going to go find someone that can.” He didn’t believe a word of it, knowing it was nothing more than a teasing Jest thrown in his direction because of his previous sarcastic comments. Then again it was entirely possible he would get a talking to though he did doubt that he bruised her toned derriere upon the mattress that he currently had her pinned to. Of course with the fact that his shirt was off and in tatters potentially having left a trail of tattered cloth from the office to the room. The sheaths upon his arms were exposed. Which in all honesty he didn’t want her to touch the knives on account of them being laced with silver upon the blade. So even as the one hand ran up the shirt slowly drawing away the last vestige of potential decency that they had he used the other hand to pull the sheath from his arm and toss it casually upon the night stand. It was with a sly grin that he finally removed that vestige and managed to find the rest of his own attire somehow tattered or gone, while wondering at what point they had vanished in the journey, yet that hardly mattered as he moved ever closer to her. Letting for a moment his lips to dance upon soft flesh from her waist to her lips... *** Eventually the passage of time brought with it the end of night and to the morn came the light of the sun. As to when the sounds and light of day cascaded through the window upon the still forms of the Duke and Duchess of Elysian, one could hardly tell. Or at least the Duke couldn’t of course he hardly dared to move from the place beneath the thick green comforter that had become at some point tangled about himself and his mate. His eyes lifted for a moment to see the light trickling through the closed windows. He felt the form of Rachel curled about his body her long silken hair falling around her in a tousled mess. Yet even as such to him she was such a beauty that he could hardly imagine a day going by that he couldn’t see her. She was in a way a blessing larger than any life. Every time he woke with her, or even saw her he wondered how he managed to gain such a person . As he lay he began to realize what might have woken him. The sounds of the girls in the other room. As he realized that he wondered what time it in fact was and why he was in bed still... Though with his wife sleeping essentially on top of him he really had no way to get out and to work. On the other hand he also wanted to spend the day with his family... When was the last time he had actually spent time with them. Eventually he figured that they would eventually come to check upon their mother and see If she was in the bedroom or where she was. Somehow as he lay their his hands slipping through Rachel’s silken hair he found himself thinking of his brother, the differences between them. How while he himself had everything he could dream of, a loving wife... a pair of adorable daughters... that were as mischievous as their father and honestly he was surprised they had yet to discover the passage from their suite to his office. His brother it seemed didn't want that... Richard wished at times that his brother would settle down and stop with his philandering and actually make something of his life and yet. That line of thought however even that line of thought was cut off as the door creaked open to admit additional light from the heavily lighted front room. His daughters standing their the sun casting shadows about them as their smiles seemed to brighten the room with a squeal of delight the hurtled across the room onto their parents bed.
