Duke Richard was simply not in the best of moods, more often than not he ignored Adrienne and taken those on her receiving end of her away. Today he was simply tired, cranky and about as stressed out as he could come. And seeing Adrienne causing his guest trouble tipped him over the boiling edge. It was not often that his control slipped and caused him to act without thought. Only when it did it was not something that anyone would want to see or be near for. Yet today, his annoyance was drawn out by Adrienne, everything seeming to want a release and he let it out. That was why he forced her to her knees. Why his leg had lashed at her knee with every ounce of force he could muster as he forced her to collapse to her knees in obvious pain and discomfort. His body considered falling upon her putting his blade to her throat and ending them of her very presence. But instead he held himself back trying to force back his temper. His annoyance and tiredness, he waited for Adrienne to react but she said and did nothing. It was annoying that she didn’t try and fight back, then again even to those that wished power didn’t regularly tangle with their betters. His blue eyes glared at her back side trying to decide what to do. He heard Evangeline out of the corner of his attention. He didn’t move towards her. "This really is not necessary, M'lord." “Perhaps, perhaps not but... she has this habit of overstepping her bounds... I just followed through with my duty as a beta.” It was after all truth... to the most part, he might of attacked harder than he would to most. He may have even held a small thought of killing her but he doubted that would go over well. He did however work to get a handle on himself. Showing weakness to another lycan especially one of lower rank could get a person killed... and by right a lycan killed by another lost rank to the one that did the killing. Best not to enter a fight one was not sure to win. So instead of pushing his luck with Adrienne he glowered at her. “Adrienne... your dismissed... keep in mind that I know whom a number of your bedfellows are I would keep your nose clean I would hate for father to discover who all you share a bed with... Well get out of my site...” He stated with a glower as he pointed off down the hall.

Adrienne nodded quickly, there was nothing she could do right now. She had been dismissed by a member of the royal family, she could not just ignore Richard when he was angry. When he was like this, it reminded her of her lover when he lost his rag with her. Those moments frightened her the most. The sound of his voice, the way he held his body. It was something she never wanted to witness again but she was witnessing something similar with his son.
Her sister wolf was telling to run, get away from the danger in front of her. Her body start to tremble as she stood there, she could not help in sudden reaction to her fear. Pushing herself of the floor, she stood once again. The mistress took a few steps back wards trying to get away from the source of her fear and worry.
Tears were threatening to fall from the corners of her eyes. This was just too much for her. Turning on her heel, she quickly heading towards the entrance of the gallery. Her heels clicking against the wooden floor matching her racing heart as it beat against her chest. Her breathing had also quickened as the distance between her and her escape route lessened. Freedom was in her grasp!
Her hand reached out for the door handle, shaking making it difficult for her grasp the cool metal handle. Once she had finally taken the metal knob in hand, she pushed down then out. The door swung open revealing an empty corridor. A smile spread across her lips as she stepped in the hall, leaving the Duke and the pregnant commoner behind her.
The royal mistress could relax and breath once again.

She nodded her head weakly as Richard explained himself. He didn't have to explain himself, but she understood a little better . It was beginning to become clear that Adrienne indeed made it a habit of overstepping her bounds. As a woman of no position it was a wonder she hadn't been taught to keep in line in a much more violent manner sooner. As Vaan's beta it was Richard's duty to put her back in line. Eva could understand that need to keep Adrienne in line having once been the child of an alpha in her life. She imagine Adrienne had been spared so far
Chocolate pools looked from Richard down to Adrienne, watching as the woman rose. She made Eva anxious to be honest. She could cause some serious trouble with Eva's case if she wanted to. Not that she suspected she could if she was beginning to fall out of Vaan's favor. At least she hoped not. She watched Adrienne leave, a hand laid protectively over her now very active mound. Once Adrienne left the room Eva relaxed, stroking her belly to try and sooth the pups within before she looked to Richard.
"Thank you, M'lord." She said softly, nodding her head at Richard in respect. She was very thankful Richard stepped in when he did. If she'd stood in the room with Adrienne another few minutes there is a possibility she could have ripped the bitches throat out. And no doubt she would go spouting off about who her mother was. Part of the reason that Eva never mentioned who her mother was, was because she didn't want whatever happened between Eloise and her family to affect her own case. She didn't know what her mother did, but she knew it was bad enough to lose favor from her own parents. She glanced up to the painting of her mother, aunt, and grandparents for a moment before she looked back to Richard. "How much of that conversation did you hear?" She asked softly, meeting Richard's gaze.

Anger, Richard honestly wasn’t all that angry, he was just forceful and commanding. Where his brother tended to slink and never really take his position seriously Richard always did and as such he tended to carry himself in such a manner that said he expected what he told others to do to happen. It was more annoyance at the lack of respect that Adrienne seemed to hold for others of their own kind. As to stood over Adrienne he thought of how much simpler palace life would be without her leeching the life from his father. Either was her attitude in general had driven Richard to annoyance on more than one occasion and he wondered how his father and brother could put up with her, let alone sleep with her. Either way it hardly mattered as he ordered her from the hall. It was amusing to see her tremble, to smell the fear coming from her as he seemed to flee from his sight, he didn’t blame her in all honesty. Had he been on the other side of his wrath he perhaps would have fled from himself as well. Either way, he wouldn’t have to worry, at the moment, about Adrienne trying to kill Eva. It didn't help that Adrienne seemed to be so self absorbed she didn’t seem to have any grasp of the political issues running rampant in the palace. In a way though it was amusing as it seemed that he wouldn’t have to worry about her getting in his way if she was so worried about her position as the court whore... Though in all honesty he knew Rachel had been trying to get his father pointed to a female that was suitable as a mate and queen not just a power hungry tramp. "Thank you, M'lord." “Just call me Richard... I see us as equals so there is no need for titles between us...” It was true after all, part of it had to do with who her mate was but their was more to it than that. The title was a word that people gave respect to, much as a crown gained a person false loyalty a title gave false respect. He as such only used his title and stature when he had to and not outside of court functions. He glanced at the picture that was on the wall next to them. Richard tried for the life of him to remember which family it was and whether they had been one of the five houses. After a short moment he remembered the name La'Fluer, a French pack that had betrothed one of their daughters to the Chancellors brother only to have her run away for an apparently unknown reason, and be disowned by the head of the pack at the time. What had happened after that really wasn’t known. However what Richard did notice was that the woman in the painting had characteristics that seemed very similar to Eva. Was she the child of the Disowned Eloise La'Fluer... If so where was she and why had she left the pack. However his musing was cut off as he heard Eva ask him a question. "How much of that conversation did you hear?" “Enough, to know she was out of line... and that she doesn't have a clue as to what is going on beyond her own nose... You look like her... Lady Eloise I mean...”

She smiled and nodded her head softly. It helped her to relax a little to know that Richard saw her in such a way, even though really they were not such equals. Her parents may have had money and her mother may have once been a lady of the court, but she was still a commoner among the court. Even if Rafe was her mate. They were not married yet. She was not legally his mate just yet. She wanted that to change. She wanted to be his wife. Not just his mate. His wife. And it had nothing to do with the title that would come to her from their union. It was about being his completely. Maybe a nice, quiet wedding at the cathedral
She looked away from him, fidgeting a little bit. "I got that a lot at home." She said softly as she looked up to the picture of her mother and the part of her family she never knew. If Jacques La'Fluer was as cold and harsh in real life as this portrait showed him though, she wasn't sure she wanted to know him. Now Margot on the other hand, was someone Eva would have liked to meet. She looked, warm, inviting. Confident. She may have sat there with Jacques's possessive hand on her bare shoulder, but she still looked confident, like her own woman. She studied Eloise and Viviene sitting on the floor in front of their parents, the skirts of their dresses fanned out around them. There were something about Eloise. The way she held herself. She held the confidence that Margot had, but there was a hint of spirit in her eyes.
She finally pulled her eyes away from the portrait to look to Richard. "She always seemed like a piece of her was missing. I think, as much as she loved us, she missed this place and her family here." She said gently, looking back to the picture thoughtfully, studying the portrait. Eloise never spoke about her life in the court. She and Phillipe spoke of the court, but neither of them ever mentioned what went on or why Eloise left. Why they never spoke to Eloise's sister and parents. It had always been a mystery to Evangeline.

Richard knew this hall, how often as his tutors spoke of the history of their race would he find himself in this hall. This pack gave this to the society, this one gave that. Every single image was of a lord or lady that had done something above and beyond the expectations of the king. Beyond those select noble families the walls were adorned with images of the King and his family. Richard didn't have a place on the wall, why one could ask... his mother had not been the queen and nor had she ever been made into the queen. As she told him so regularly, she was as common as the dirt beneath her so far as she was concerned. He had in time taken that to heart, he was just a common Duke, their was nothing special about who and what he was he just had a little more responsibility that most. It didn’t mean that he was any better than anyone else, nor had it garnered any respect from the masses. He had to work for that everyday. In the end, he was a bastard child, that he was the son to Vaan Niall came only as an afterthought to a number of the court nobility. It was why many of them tried to go against him, he was just a bastard and many of them believed in pure lycans, ones that had always been of the noble houses. Some of them, were even against Vaan because his bloodline was not from one of the 5 noble houses. How often had he sat in this hall wondering if things would have been different if he and henry had shared a mother. Either way though he felt that the end would have had them the same. Both of them lost a mother, it would never matter what happened that was a scar that simply would not go away. "She always seemed like a piece of her was missing. I think, as much as she loved us, she missed this place and her family here." Richard found his eyes glancing at the noticeably pregnant Evangeline. Somehow he doubted her mother regretted her choice to leave the city, Richard doubted that he would. Be able to do as he wished, raise his daughters outside of the sight of the court. Where none could manipulate them as tools. Where men with sons close to their age came to him wishing for Richard to betroth his daughters out. It had worked for himself and Rachel, it was not something meant for everyone though. He would not force his daughters into something, he wanted them to make the choice because as nobility you had to make choices you had to be a leader of men and women to live within the palace, to stay above the petty games. “Perhaps, but somehow I doubt your mother regretted the choice she made... Anyway, I wish I could stay and chat, but alas my attention is drawn to other matters. If you'll excuse me m'lady,” With a light bow to Evangeline, Richard continued on his way, he had things to work on and as such he didn't have time to dally about staring at pictures of a past that was not his own. He wasn't his brother, he had work to do. It beckoned to him as a moth was called to a flame. Though he was not going to that journey, no his mate was on the move without a guard, and it seemed like a good day to join her in the city, he never did manage to get out anymore after all.
