Arawn Frost was a man of few words, he spend most of his time thinking. His time divided between court and his estate but of late, he found no real need to leave his vast home. However these many halls, corridors and rooms seemed empty now his daughter had found someone to love, well actually a pair of twins but that was a story for another day.
He had refused any guard appointed to protect him in the past, it was not needed. He was not a threat to anyone now or ever, he was a gentle soul who kept out of everyone's way. However this didn't mean he didn't hear secrets whispered in dark corners. Arawn was a mine of information and helped those who truly need his help. A letter from the King had arrived earlier in the day, it lay opened on his desk.
Standing by the window, watching members of his pack run across the rolling hills. Vaan had put his foot down, Arawn would be receiving an envoy the following day. The Lord was not looking forward to this, he was an independent man but could not deny his King anything. Sighing deeply, he turned away from the window heading back across the room. His strides slow, thinking once more. His daughter and of his dearly departed wife and mate seemed to the focus on his thoughts these days. Arawn missed the company of Anne, his muse and lover but now he missed the comfort of his daughter Phoenix who no longer needed him, she wasn't going to be running back to him any time soon.
Yes the company of the envoy would be welcomed, a dinner would be arranged but nothing could feel the whole in his heart. Arawn Frost was lonely but for how much longer? He needed to start the paperwork that had been piling higher and higher on his desk, avoiding it seemed to all he could do. Instead he found himself doing something he had not done in years, playing the piano.
The very same piano he had locked away when Anne had died, something was drawing him back, calling to him. Maybe a new muse was on the horizon, riding along side the envoy as the hooves of the horses thundered across the plains between the harbor and his estate. Tomorrow was a new day but would it truly bring good news or just another reminder of his pain and agony? Arawn would have to wait and see, for now he would work and arrange the last minute details of the dinner for this sudden visit. There was so much to do!
From working out of the menu for the evening meal, the alcohol in the cellar and the exact room his guest would be sleeping in if they stayed the night. His head ache at the very thought of it all. It was too much work for just one man to do. Oh how he wished his beloved was still alive to help him. She had be the perfect hostess but sadly she was no-longer part of this world. Arawn would have to do it alone, he had done it before. This time would not be any different but how wrong was he?
Tomorrow promised change. Tomorrow would bring new life to these empty, lifeless halls.

Dawn left the throne room with a pounding headache building up between her eyes while trying to maintain her cold demeanor. It wasn’t so much about being in the room but what she was going to have to do. Delivering a personal guard to Lord Frost wasn’t the kind of afternoon the Captain had been hoping to have. Her plans had revolved around her bed, a book, and a very strong glass of whatever alcohol she had in her home. But this was why she never had too many days off, her plans meant nothing when it came to the will of the King. None the less, she had been given her orders and would follow them. King Vaan and his sons would have to place their lives in Angel and the other guard’s hands for one night. Not that she doubted her brother in law could take care of the palace, but it just felt strange not being at the palace for one night.
It seemed Vaan had grown weary of Lord Frost continued resistant of a guard. Dawn could understand why, a guard always at your side would make you feel watched. There was little privacy but Frost knew things, things that could be used against him or Vaan. For that, he needed to have an extra pair of eyes on his back. For that, she would need someone, a guard, that she knew would make sure Lord Frost was never in major danger. Running through a list in her mind, she quickly cut out some thinking of their problems or lack of experience before remembering one guard who was loyal and dedicated but hadn’t complained about his low position as a mere patrol soldier.
Sighing, she passed down the halls on the hunt for the lycan who was in need of a change of rank. Her nose rose slightly to catch hold of Nathaniel’s scent. It was rather difficult to locate one scent in the halls where so many courtiers had passed through along with the other royals. Finally, turning a corner she grabbed hold of the guard’s smell and practically ran down the hall, her heels didn’t make a sound on the marble floors. Spotting him, she slowed down not letting a single emotion show on her pale face.
“Nathaniel! Collect your gear. Meet me in the stables in twenty minutes.” Right then, all he needed to know was to meet with her in the stables. There was no reason to discuss his new position in the hallways where there were no secrets. Turning her back, Dawn left the male to do whatever he needed. Herself, she made a short stop at the weaponry to collect a few daggers to store away on her body. Normally in the palace there was little use for them but since they were to be traveling, she wanted to be prepared. With that done, she informed Angel of the schedule of the guards around the outer wall and wished him luck for the night. The trip to the stables was short because the weaponry was next door.
“Are the horses ready?” Speaking to a stable boy, Dawn walked over to the tan horse she had grown to love over the years. He stood proud before snorting at the boy placing the harness on him. The beast, Destiny, had a fire in his eyes that she could relate to and they seemed to have reached an understanding over the years. Grabbing the reins, she led the horse out of the stall before mounting him to wait on Nathaniel. At her side, another horse was led out and held by the stable boy for the other guard to hope on. They would travel alone, it might not have been the best idea but the less men that rode the less time it would take to reach Lord Frost’s home.

Nate was on patrol again tonight like every other night he worked. He was the low man on the totum pole and got to wall the halls of the palace he was told to guard and make sure nothing was a miss. All in all it was always rather uneventful and some might say boring but that didn't mean Nate would take it any less seriously. You never knew what could happen things could go from peaceful to chaotic in the blink of an eye and Nate for one wouldn't be caught daydreaming when something went down and he was needed. Nate loved what he did even if he hadn't been promoted or had a change of station since he started he wouldn't complain. He felt like he belonged here and he was truly grateful for that fact so if he had to walk the halls every day for the next hundred years he'd do it and he'd do it better than anyone else. Then maybe he'd get a promotion.
The thought made Nate smile as he paused in the middle of the hall and looked around for a moment making sure nothing was happening that he wasn't aware of. Nate was about to head down the hall when Captain Dawn came up to him. He stood at strict attention as he saluted her, feeling a bit disappointed that he hadn't heard her coming but she was the Captain so she knew how to move silently even in her boots. Nate's hand was only half way up when she told him to meet her at the stabels in twenty minutes, then walked off. It took Nate a moment to process what she'd said before he jumped into action and headed straight to his quarters at a dead sprint. When he turned the corner to his room he bumped into someone and apologized over his shoulder to whoever he'd run into but didn't stop till he got to his quarters.
His wind was a whirl with what the Captain would need him in the stables for. He smiled at all the thoughts: patroling the forest, hunting someone down, and other like thoughts. Nate ran out of his room weapons strapped to his belt and boots. Never once did he slow till he reached the stable. He ran up to the Captain and her horse. He saluted her before seeing the other horse waiting for him. He climbed onto the horse and took the reins from the stable boy with a smile. When the Captain started off Nate followed keeping quiet. He didn't want to speak not sure if they had to remain quiet or not so he followed the Captain's example and stayed quiet not speaking till spoken to.
He wasn'y sure where they were headed or for what reason but he stayed vigilaent and aware for anything. He wouldn't screw up esecially since he was with the Captain; he was a compotent guy and even though he was excited to be doing something different he stayed focused. Protecting the nobles came first and that took all his focus.

Hours past, night turned into day. The envoy was meant to be arriving this afternoon but when exactly he had no clue. Arawn was clearly not pleased, his face showed signs of wear and tear, bags were clearly visually under each eye. This was nothing new, the man barely slept these days.
Most of the necessary arrangements were in place. Waking at the crack of dawn had it's advantages but time was all he had now. Meeting with the right maids, he personally oversaw that the guest suite was clean and looked presentable. Next was the kitchen and chefs, since he had no idea of the dietary requirements of the envoy he had the most common dishes prepared. It would a simple three course meal. Several starters to choose from, followed by a Filet Mignon with Rich Balsamic Glaze for the main course. For dessert a simple but alcoholic trifle. Wife and various types of alcohol was optional throughout the meal.
With that crossed off his never ending list of things to do, Arawn picked up where he left off the previous evening at his desk. Paperwork that demanded his signature, payment for this tax or invitations to this Noble's home for some reason for another. This was the life for a Lord, never ending engagements and invites to deal with each and every day. All Arawn could do was wait, wasting time removing another pile of work from his incoming to outgoing. Oh the life of Lord, what fun it truly was.

Dawn had caught Nathaniel unprepared, she was sorry for that both for scaring him and for his lack of having noticed her sneaking up on him but things were in motion and if she slowed down everything would fall behind. In her mind, she was already calculating how long riding on horseback would take. Much longer than in a car by a good three hours that was sure. But she blamed Angel on that small minor flaw in her design. She no longer liked being in small confinements after years of conforming to help the big guy adjust to being a guard in the palace. Being in a car for too long seemed to only irritate her sister wolf to a point she would clawing out pieces of seat cushions and start foaming at the mouth. It wasn’t a state Dawn liked to be in so when she could she avoided it.
“It’s going to be a long ride. I hope you’re prepared.” Digging her heels into Destiny’s side, Dawn urged the animal forward. She nodded to some guard who saluted her as they began their journey past the palace walls. For right then, that was all the talking she would do until they were a few miles away. Glancing back at him, she nodded her head toward before she thrusted her heels into her horse’s sides sending it into a strong run through the hills. They couldn’t keep the horses running for hours but short burst of runs would help cover more ground than a straight steady walk. She wondered if Nate knew where they were headed, but she doubted if. His job had been to guard the palace, never anything that might have taken him to Lord Frost’s home.
The ride was hard, half way through Dawn’s back side started to seriously hurt and her fingers were cramping from holding the reins. Not that she allowed her face to give away her discomfort, forcing her body to never show anything she didn’t want it to had been a hard lesson. A lesson she always had to keep reminding herself about. Every few minutes, her eyes would look over at Nate to make sure he was still alert for anything. A few times she had to remind him to drink some water but otherwise the ride was nothing interesting.
As they neared Arawn’s home, Dawn slowed down her horse so she could have a moment to speak with Nathanial before they got to the door. “I’m sorry to have left you in the dark, but I never trust anything I saw in those halls to stay between myself and the other party member.” It sounded paranoid but a person didn’t get higher in ranks without being a little paranoid. “We’re about two minutes from Lord Frost’s home. From now on, you’re to be his personal guard. Watch over him, shadow him, do whatever needs be to keep his life safe.” Giving him a stern look, she nodded when she was satisfied with what she saw. Nathanial was like her, he loved his job that was why he was going to be perfect for this assignment.
As the large house appeared, Dawn pulled her horse to a stop right out front the doors to climb off Destiny. The horse nickered at her before she ran a calm hand over his neck and whispering sweet words in his ear. “Don’t listen to what Lord Frost might say about you not being on duty tonight. Be respectful and polite. Neither Vaan nor Lord Frost picked you, I did. Remember that.” In other words, his manner reflected all the years she had been captain and he better not be anything less than the soldier she had trained him to be. Walking up to the door, she pressed the door bell and waited for someone to answer.

Nate nodded when she said it was going to be a long ride. It never occurred to him to question her decision to be riding horse back especially since he didn't know where they were going. For all he knew they could be going somewhere where a car couldn't easily go but a horse could. He'd ridden horses a lot back when he'd been in Montana but that had been years ago and he knew he didn't have the riding stamina he used to; Nate was going to be very sore the next day.
He followed her lead speeding the horse up when she speed up and keeping up with her as best he could. She had been right about the ride being long and he felt the cramps forming in his lower back and thighs from being in the same position for so long. Even with the cramps his excitment for where they were going and what they would be doing never dwindled. Captain Dawn hadn't told him anything about what they were going to be doing but that only made him more eager to get where they needed to be. The need for secrecy meant it had to be something important otherwse she would've told him something by now, though Nate reminded himself that it couldn't be to important since he was still low man on the totum pole.
He drank when he was told but otherwise kept alert, the Captain was glancing at him every now and then and he didn't want her to think he was a slacker. Nate had never been a slacker always doing his work thoroughly and taking the time needed to make sure the work was done properly. Nate flexed a hand trying to work out the cramp when he saw the Captain slow he followed suit and looked around trying to orient himself. He didn't know the entire island and throughout the ride he'd tried to figure out where they were going but to no avail. When she apologized for keeping him in the dark he only nodded and listened as she went on. He knew not everyone could be trusted he wasn't so naive to believe everyone in the world had the best intentions. When she said he was going to be Lord Frost's personal guard his eyes widened slightly and he nodded unable to keep the slight curve of a smile from his lips.
As he followed her the last bit to the house his mind was consumed with pure joy. He'd done it he got promoted, he was going to be the personal guard to a noble. When the Captain spoke again he looked up at her his smile fading as he nodded seriously. "Understood, Captian." He wouldn't have relaxed even if she hadn't told him that. After all there was no break when you were a personal guard. He was now responsible for Lord Frost care and he wouldn't let anyone harm the Lord. His chest puffed up a bit with pride that the Captain herself had picked him and not been told to pick him by anyone else. She'd noticed how hard he worked and that only made him want to work harder. Nothing would get past him to the Lord.
Nate stood at attention behind the Captain as she rang the door bell his hands sweating slightly. He was anxious to meet the Lord he'd be protecting. He didn't know all the nobles, in fact he really only knew the ones that he'd seen during his time at the palace which was a very limited number of people. When the door opened Nate waited to be introduced before he saluted.

Normally a butler would be the one to answer the door but not today. Most of the staff had been sent home, on the necessary maids and serving staff remained this afternoon. It was strange to see just a dull and almost reaction to the news of a day off.
A knock at the door, alerted him that he was not alone. "Come in" He commanded, never looking up from his work. His gaze fixed upon the words printed upon the paper but it no longer seemed to be going in, just over his head. A maid soon entered, bowing to her master only to inform him that the envoy had been spotted. "Start dinner within the hour" He ordered, his voice calm trying to hide the nerves of what this envoy might bring to his quaint home. It could be anything at all.
Pushing himself up and out of the chair, Arawn moved away from one of the sources of stress but distraction. Time was running out, soon Dawn and Nathaniel would be arriving. Dressed down, in the most casual clothes he owned. No-one knew that Arawn Frost owned a pair of jeans but he did. They tightly hugged his muscular legs from years of training and running with his pack. The maid once she had finished delivering her message, bowed once more then left to complete the rest of her duties.
Wasting no more time, he left his office locking the door behind him before pocketing the key. Arawn quickly turned on his heel, heading down the long corridor towards the entrance hall.
Tic Tock
Who had been chosen this time to play Envoy for the King? Why had been brave enough to enter his estate with orders to offer this lord another guard? Arawn did not need protecting, he was a grown man and capable lycan. The sound of the doorbell brought him back to reality and out of his thoughts. The envoy was here.
Grasping the door handle tightly, turning it open to reveal Captain Roseburn and another guard, male and unknown to him. What could Arawn say about Dawn Roseburn? Well she was efficient, cold but there was something beneath the surface. The lord could not help but like her "Captain Roseburn, I did not except you to be Vaan's Envoy" He revealed honestly, the shock was starting to settle as he stepped aside to allow the two of them to enter his home.

Rolling back her shoulders, Dawn straightened her posture feeling her muscles protest the sudden strain, but she ground her teeth and refused to look anything but the proud Captain she was. Deep down, her wolf wanted to howl in pain knowing that as soon as the sun was up in the morning they would be right back on Destiny to return to the palace. Sometimes she wished her wolf didn’t become so uncontrollable in a car so transportation wasn’t so hurtful to her ass. At her side, she noted how Nathaniel stood at attention trying to make a good impression on the lord when the door opened. She had seen how excited he’d gotten over the change in his role. It was well overdo but the fact was until yesterday Lord Frost had always argued against Vaan’s wish to give him a personal guard.
If Dawn hadn’t been a guard, she might have been inclined to agree with the Lord but she wasn’t, so she didn’t. There were plenty of lycans, vampires, and humans who didn’t appreciate the rule of the five houses. They didn’t like being told what they could and couldn’t go, what laws to listen to, but without laws and order Dawn doubted humanity would have survived alongside its darker supernatural relatives. Without Vaan or the five houses, she wasn’t sure she wanted to think about all the death and destruction her kind would create around the world.
As the door was opened, Dawn was surprised to find it was Lord Frost who opened the door and not a maid. A surprise that she actually allowed slip through her normal static features. “I did not expect you to open the door, Lord Frost.” She countered back his remark after bowing slightly, not formally but out of respect. Nodding back to Nate, she quickly made interductions. “Lord Frost, meet Nathaniel Tobias Alexander, your personal guard.” The way she spoke wasn’t in the sweet way that left room for Arawn to argue, it was said in the way ‘this is your guard, don’t complain to me or say it isn’t’. Stepping inside, she allowed her shoulders to relax slightly while looking around the main entrance. Not much had changed since she was last there with Vaan for one of Arawn’s dinners.
“King Vaan thought my presence would make you less willing to fight about this old topic.” Shrugging her shoulders, Dawn watched the exchange between Lord Frost and Nate, hoping there wouldn’t be a need for her to remind the Lord about all the reasons a guard was needed. What she really hoped for was a large bathtub so she could wash off all the dirt she had collected and a bed for her to pass out in. It was bad enough her night off had been ruined, if she had to argue with Arawn about the personal guard topic right then things would get ugly.

Nate had thought the house was impressive from the outside and the inside didn't disappoint. He didn't openly look around but as Lord Frost and the Captain talked he noted things through his periphery vision. It was good to start getting an idea for the lay of the house then he would know how best to get around. He planned to walk around later and get a better idea. His focus came back to the Captain and the lord he would now be protecting. He straightened a little more ignoring the needles of pain in his back and legs from standing so stiffly after sitting on a horse for so long. Nate couldn't stay still for to long and he had to move stratching the muscles in his back and chest. He stopped when he heard the Captain talking about why she was there.
He blinked and looked at Lord Frost. It had never occured to him that a Lord might not want a guard. To him made sense you couldn't always watch your back while doing all the thigns that were demanded of a lord. Though he could also see how they might find it an invasion of their privacy. He looked at Lord Frost his face earnest and serious."Lord Frost it is an honor to be your personal guard and I will give you as much privacy as you as long as it doesn't comprimise your safety." Nate felt that was fair he had no reason to get invovled in his Lord's personal life except where his safety might be concerned. He wouldn't like people scrutinizing his every move so he wouldn't do that for his Lord he would just make sure that he was safe at all hours of the day. He wouldn't fail his Lord or his Captain's expectations. It might be considered pressure but Nate never really felt pressure he was honored to be doing what he was and though he didn't want to lose his new rank that was only at the back of his mind.
He'd been given new responsibilities that was a trust in him and his abilities to keep people safe. Nate had been a police officer before he'd found the Isle and that oath he swore back them held true to now. It had never stopped being something that he lived by. To protect and serve, he may use it differently than what it had been intended for since now he only protected the nobility insitead of the public as a whole by the seed of it Nate still followed. Even though his Lord hadn't put his life in his hands willingly Nate would still guard his Lord's life above his own. That's what the guard did putting their lives on the line for the nobles and at the end of the day what Nate did always made him smile.

"I thought that it be best, if it was I that personally greeted the King’s envoy Captain” Arawn knew better than most that the King would rarely send his own personal guard and captain away from court unless it was important. Dawn Roseburn was an ally he counted on at court, especially when most could easily be bought and sold information to the highest bidder. Never before had he seen the captain bring bribed by any member of the nobility. This proved she could easily be trusted, another reason for her to be in the position she was at court.
Introductions? This was not good. Vaan’s patience had finally run out, Arawn had gone too far when it came to denying any need for a personal guard. All Arawn could do was stare angrily at Dawn, but he was close to losing his rag over this. However this was a sign of weakness, something a member of the five houses could not do ever. “I see” was all he could say, taking in Nate’s form as he stood there.
The lord breathed in softly, taking in both the scents of the lycans before him. Dawn’s was soft and warm like summer, reminding him of long summer days lazing around in fields just staring up at the clouds, letting life past you by. Nathaniel on the other hand, his scent caused his brother wolf to stir ever so slightly. It was curious at this new lycan, wanting to see him for itself but this would not do. Using all of his will power, Arawn forced the wolf back into submission, leashing to the back of his mind where it belonged. The wolf would not control him, only the full moon would the brother wolf have control of his form and only then.
This Nathaniel he would have to avoid, in order to prevent his brother wolf from awakening again. This was a sign of bad things on the horizon, much like a red sky in the morning, a Shepherd’s warning. Vaan was not a patient man; he could only wait for so long before snapping. “I thought it would come to this eventually but not so soon” He said, defeated by the very thought, this was a certainty and there was no way out. He would be stuck with a personal guard, following him twenty four hours a day.
“It is a pleasure to meet you Nathaniel” Arawn turned to greet the younger man, a friendly smile spread across his lips. He did not want to frighten the man off, even though his standoff attitude to the announcement made his stance on this clear. He did not want or feel he needed a guard. This was not going to be an easy start for either one of them.
“Close the door behind you, I will show you to your rooms” He responded, ushering them further into his home. This was going to be one long night for the unhappy lord, his wolf playing havoc with his mind. Oh what was he to do? Just Grin and bear it, seemed like the only option left on his plate, then that was what Arawn would do. Oh Anne why did you have to leave that night, he needed you now more than ever.

Dawn smirks and shook her head at Arawn’s response about greeting the envoy. What else was she suppose to expect from a Lord? She should have been surprised if a maid had opened the door instead. “You’re right.” Glancing back and forth between Lord Frost and Nate, she noticed the angry expression thrown at her by the lord. This was the final straw for Vaan. He had said so when he told her to come personally to Arawn’s home. The lord needed protection because sooner or later he was going to slip up. Dawn saw it in his eyes weary eyes, the male was reaching his end. “Don’t give me that look, Lord Frost. I’m just following order.” She was on the edge of ranting but she held back her own anger for the person it was directed at. It wasn’t Lord Frost’s fault her night had been murdered before it even started, ok it was a bit his fault based on him denying the king a small request. Hearing Nathanial’s words, she couldn’t help feel a little proud. This job had definitely been a long time coming for him.
Reaching over, she gently closed the door more out of habit then the request for someone to close the door. Dawn had to laugh at the defeated tone in the lord’s voice. “So soon? You’ve been arguing against a personal guard for the past forty years.” For lycans that wasn’t a long time, but forty years was still years and years passing by where Frost thought he was able to protect himself even when he had his weak moments. Inside, her wolf was sighing heavily out of tiredness and a deep sadness that she wasn’t around Vaan right then. Maybe it was a good thing she wasn’t at the palace for the night. Maybe she could figure out why she couldn’t get her sister wolf from trying to be such a domestic cat around the King.
Dawn followed Arawn up the stairs where the rooms were located. The last time she’d been up those stairs she’d been checking out the house for all possible entrance a threat could take while Vaan was in the lord’s home for a small gathering. Already her mind could pin point the guest rooms that Lord Frost had likely picked out for her to spend the night in, hopefully Nathanial would get a more permanent room. Coming to her room, she nodded to Arawn. “Thank you.”
“Please, excuse me, Lord Frost. I have to call in with King Vaan.” Dawn bowed to him respectfully and turned to enter her room but paused to glance back over her shoulder at him. “I’ll try to make it down for dinner, but forgive me if I don’t make it. It’s been a long day and I need to leave right as the sun comes up.” And she wanted a bubble bath so badly. Entering her room, she shut the door softly before pulling out her cell phone and pressing the four, Vaan’s own personal phone on speed dial.
As the other end rang, Dawn went to work undoing the ties on her corset while walking to the bathroom. She drummed her nails against the phone mumbling under her breath. As she nudged the bathroom door open, she gasped seeing the Jacuzzi tub. It was beautiful. “Thank you, Luna.” Lord Frost was going to have to forgive her, the odds of her leaving the room for dinner had suddenly decreased. As the other end was picked up, she kicked her boots off. “Your Highness, it’s Dawn. Nathanial and I arrived about ten minutes ago.” Reaching over, her hand turned on the hot water until it was comfortable, allowing the tub to fill up.

Vaan hated that it come to this. He wished that Lord Frost was not so stubborn and refused his constant offers for a personal guard but that was not so. He would be denied no longer, Arawn have a personal guard and like it. His mind would not be changed, not now not ever. The choice of who would be right for this position would be up to his captain. He did not have the right to go through every candidate that might put their name forward. As the King he had more important matters to deal with than this. He trusted Captain Roseburn’s judgment and choice.
She had been summoned and told of this task, it was clear she had not been happy. He waited for a report; he worked alone in his office locked away from the world. It was peaceful, quiet and what he needed but the shrill ring of the phone that sat on his desk alerted him that someone wanted his attention. Quickly he picked up the handset answering the call.
The voice was the other end was familiar, a smile spread across his lips. His brother wolf stirred, happy to hear her. Her very presence had been missed; it was like a void in his life and by his side. Vaan was never without his captain, she was always there in shadows protecting him from harm. “Ah Captain Roseburn, I am glad to hear this” He had no idea which guard had been Nathaniel but that did not matter, Dawn trusted him so would he.
“How is Lord Frost taking in news?” He was interesting in the reaction of the Lord who had pushed away the very of idea of having a guard in the past. How would he react to this? Having a guard forced upon him? This would be most interesting. Dawn would tell him everything, of that he was certain.

Placing the cell phone on speaker, Dawn placed it on the counter after shutting the bathroom door, adding an extra bit of privacy to the conversation. She doubted they would need privacy but somethings were better safe than sorry. Her fingers pulled her corset off to drop it on the floor as she heard Vaan’s voice. Pursing her lips, she hated the hum of delight that came from her sister wolf knowing he had likely been waiting for the call. “He’s not happy. No, I take that back, he’s furious.” While she spoke, she shimmied out of her tight pants before they too wound up next to her corset on the floor. There was no stopping the soft sigh of relief when her body was freed from the fabric that had been encasing her for the past ten hours. Wondering if Lord Frost kept that bathroom fully stocked, she peeked under the sink trying to find some form of bubble bath. She pushed aside varies forms of soap and some shampoos before spotting her holy grail. “At least he’s being polite to Nathaniel, I’m not sure if the male could handle being glared at by someone he supposed to protect.” Wrapping her fingers around the bottle, she paused seeing bath salts and wanted to howl in pleasure. It wasn’t home but for one night, it would do.
Smiling to herself, she dumped a handful of bath salt into the tub before squeezing some citrus smelling bubble bath in the tub. Instantly, her nose was filled with the warm scent of oranges and lemons with a hint of lavender behind it from the salts. Oddly, it was a very soothing scent for Dawn. Suddenly, all her anger came back remember why she was at Frost’s home in the middle of nowhere in the first place. “Vaan, you fucking owe me for this. I’m not playing.” Finding a spare hair claw in the cabinet, she yanked her curls up in to a loose bun and clamped the claw around her hair. “I would like to remind you that I am your personal guard, not your delivery bitch.” Snarling under her breath, she clicked the speaker off so she could pressed the phone back up to her ear.
Dawn knew she was out of line by yelling at Vaan but she was pissed off. Her wolf was actually excited about the idea of yelling at him just to get a rise out of him. Honestly, she was going to need to get laid before she went to see him tomorrow, her wolf was getting out of hand. “I honestly had plans for tonight. Granted, they weren't big plans but a night to myself would have been better than any damn date I’ve been on.”

This was what he had excepted. Arawn was too stubborn for this own good, he had known the lord for years now but this attitude had only arisen after the night his wife was cruelly taken away from him. Lady Anne’s death had been tragic and clearly he was still suffering. King was only doing what he thought was best of a member of the five families. They were the back bone of their society and to lose another one would be terrible for him personally as well on a public level.
“My mind will not be changed by one furious lord, the personal guard will remain” This was the voice of tired king. He would not be defeated or take back this decision as in the long run it would reflect badly upon him and his character. “Arawn is a polite gentleman but inform Nathaniel that Arawn will try and avoid him” This was a piece of advise based on past experience, as every time Vaan had guards assigned to the Lord when he had been present at court whether it be for meetings or of his choice he had often received confused reports about the sneaky lord.
His eyes had been fixed upon the clock hung high on the wall, just waiting to see how long it would be before the conversation turned from polite to angry. After all he had sent off his own guard to deliver the guard and message when any-one else could have undertaken this simple task. “We can discuss this when you get back tomorrow, I promise you this Dawn” He tried to calm the obviously angry female lycan, he did not want to get in shouting match with her over the phone.
“Dawn, I am reminded of this everyday but you were the only one I completely trust to make sure Lord Frost accept this guard and does not try to talk his way out” He finally explained this reasons behind sending this own personal guard. “I apologise for ruining your evening” His voice softened as he apologized for being the reason of the change in her plans.

“I wasn’t trying to tell you to get rid of the personal guard or change your mind. I would never tell the king what to do. I was simply saying how Lord Frost was.” Lord Frost had gotten reckless after his mate’s death which she could understand. The loss of one’s mate was like the death of a large part of you, once it was gone the odds of finding another weren’t great. There was a reason wolves mated for life. Leaning against the sink, Dawn watched the warm water fill up the tub. The bubbles looked so inviting while she listened to Vaan. Her sister wolf was practically panting hearing the king’s voice reminding the Captain of her need to spend a night away from the palace more often for her own mental benefit.
Rubbing her forehead, she pushed off from the wall to sit on the rim of the tub to place her fingers in the water feeling a shiver of delight roll up her spine. “I will.” Naturally, Nate should already be prepared for Arawn to pull any sort of move to keep the guard at a long distance but she would warn him…after she got her bath. Not before because she was ready to eat someone’s head for messing with her since she felt dirty and smelly after the long horse ride. “I can’t promise what time I’ll be back.” She snapped at him fully planning to grab the first single male she came across in the town right before the palace and fucking him. Of course, that was the plan. There was no telling if it would even go into effect until she got closer to the palace and if she was still angry with him. The thing that set her even more on the edge was how calm his voice was, as if he was trying to sooth her when all she wanted to do was lash out.
“Staying mad at you would be easier if you at least got annoyed with me raising my voice to you.” Dawn pursed her lips trying not to smile knowing Vaan had cracked through walls she had kept around her heart for a reason. She had tried, honestly tried to keep a large distance between her and the King but it seemed no matter how hard she’d tried, he’d strolled by and cracked those walls with a single finger. “Damn you, why did you have to apologize?” Him apologizing in that soft tone told her he really meant it. She had no way to respond to the warm Vaan, that most people didn’t get to see, she had grown to understand over the past few weeks. “I can handle angry males…you being sweet…throws me off balance.” Her voice was soft, vulnerable even as her finger swirled around in the water to collect bubbles on the digit.
Still holding the phone in one hand, she slipped her legs into the tub before easing her body into the warm bubbly water that smelled like a citrus paradise. “Oh Luna!” Dawn moaned so deeply it was amazing it wasn’t coming from sex but simply from a warm bubble bath as the jets tickled her skin in all the right place. In that moment, she forget about who was on the other end of the phone while relaxing her head back against the rest as the cell phone was still pressed to her ear.
