That blank look he fixed on her made her fidget a little uncomfortably. Perhaps trying to make chit chat with the king's youngest son hadn't been the best idea since he clearly didn't recognize Elina. That was understandable of course. This was her first time attending a function in about a decade, possibly longer than that. She took no offense from it either. After all, he probably saw hundreds of new faces each year. "Oh, forgive me, M'lord. It has been some years since I actually attended a court gathering. I suppose you wouldn't recognize me. I'm Baroness Elina Cali." She curtsied gently in greeting once more. "My parents are Baron George and Baroness Althea Cali." She thought he might recognize her parents' names. They had been members of the courts for over a hundred years now.
Brown eyes turned to Rachel and Vaan thoughtfully before she looked back to Richard. The poor man looked like he was about to pass out. She couldn't imagine he would stay around too much longer. If she looked as worn down as he did she never would have shown up, but then again, he was one of Vaan's children. She supposed it was a requirement to at least show up for a brief period of time during court gatherings. She would hate that, but she would do it. She hated shirking her responsibility and duties. She suffered through a lot she didn't like because of this particular trait.

This song was reaching it's climax. The dance was slowly coming to an end. His son needed reeling in and soon. Oh a thought crossed his mind, a wicked but necessary thought which would be put into action once he had found the right candidate.
It had not escape him that her eyes wandered. Most likely she was looking in the direction of Richard. As a worried father, he would glance in his son's direction feeling deflated at the sight of the circles developing under his eyes. The sight of his ruffled clothes pulled at his heart strings, the boy needed to rest and soon.
His children and grandchildren were the jewels in his crown. Everything would be sorted privately between them at a later date but now they could enjoy each other's company as they dance to the beat of the music the band played. "Don't thank me now, thank me when you return" He told her, returning the smile lacking none of the warmth of hers.
"Darling Rachel, I know you don't" It was clear the protective mother wolf was coming out of her. The need to keep her pups from the users who would see the young girls as pawns. "This is something my son, you and I will discuss in private at a later date" He softly informed her turning, dipping her as the last fast beat escape. The music slowed right down as it entered the home stretch.
"Take the girls, make a holiday out of it" This was his plan, let Richard recover whilst spending time with his mate and his family. Someone else would take up his steed, finish the paper work that piled high on his desk. "Of course, take my son to bed, he needs it" Worry still there, but how could not be when his youngest son was in such a bad state.
"There are many others for me to dance with" The jealous stares of women on the edge of the dance floor was obvious, it made him laugh internally. They were waiting for the dance to end for their own opportunity for a moment with their king, to be his arms even if it is for a short period of time.

Being dipped once more, Rachel heard it in the music that their dance was almost over and already her heart was crying out for Richard’s touch. The dance was a pleasant one with Vaan and each time they danced she enjoyed his smooth moves, but she loved her mate too much and they hadn’t been able to talk much that day since he’d been off working. In fact, she rather missed dancing with him as well; it had been a good while since their last dance. Compared to his father’s smooth moves, Richard danced much like he worked, confident and aggressive. For some reason, that worked for Rachel’s own dance style if anything it complimented her.
“When I return?” That brought up a whole mess of questions in Rachel’s mind that she didn’t think she had time to ask before the dance ended. Because once it ended the courts’ ears would be able to pick up on the conversation. At the last dip in the dance, her eyes glanced over at Richard trying to decipher what his father was saying to her. By return, did he mean the next time they were at court or the first time he would meet with his second granddaughter? “I look forward to it.” Dinners with just the family were rare and Rachel did love them a great deal. They always felt like the weight of the courts were pushed off her shoulders to the point she didn’t have to look so prim.
His request for her to take the girls and Richard on a holiday grabbed her attention making her fingers tighten slightly in his hand more out of shock then anger. It had been on her mind to ask her father in law if it was an okay time to take her mate away from the castle to some get away preferable at the beach where the girls could have fun in the water while the two of them relaxed. Could it be as easy as his own mind was also planning on telling his youngest son to take a break? “If you feel as if everything will not fall apart if Richard’s not around, I was actually going to ask to take them away for a weekend or so.”
“I have every intention of taking him to bed, but I don’t think he’s up for what I have in mind.” Rachel laughed softly, not even blushing at the innuendo so colorful right in front of her father in law. Why should she even bat an eyelash at something that was natural and every lycan and human did? Of course, she was in a very good mood after being told it was fine to take her family on a vacation.
“Yes, there are. Baroness Elina might need some company when I pull my mate away. Of course, Captain Dawn might be around somewhere. Luna knows she could use a little fun.” Mentioning Lady Elina to Vaan should tag his interesting in the she wolf making him wonder why his daughter in law knew the woman when she normally kept to herself in courts. She never pointed anyone out for him to take interest in since she normally disliked the majority of the Court. On the other hand, bringing up the Captain to her father in law might pull his mind away from the gold digging whore. It took a blind man not to notice the sexual tension between them, not that anyone would say it aloud. Either way, it was a win-win.
As the last note played, Rachel’s feet stilled while still smiling up at Vaan. “It was a pleasure dancing with you, Father.” Lowering her hands from his shoulder and hand, she took a step back and curtsied to him respectfully. Taking two more steps back, she turned to walk over to her mate, the crowd stepped aside for the Duchess knowing not to get in her way with the King still likely watching. Giving Richard a ‘come hither’ look, she stood in front of him and curtsied before glancing at Baroness Elina. “Good evening, Baroness. My mate, it’s time to get you to bed.” Reaching out a hand, her voice gave no room for argument from him or anyone else.
Richard took her hand and together the Duke and Duchess left the throne room causing some whispers to erupt after they exited through the doors.

Ever the faithful guard and Captain, Dawn had been at the party from the start. The only difference between herself and the partiers was she was working and they were having fun. Her location hadn’t changed since she’d followed King Vaan into the throne room. Hand clamped behind her back, her legs were parted slightly ready to move should the occasion be needed. Aside from her eyes shifting constantly, flicking to Vaan then to his sons then to his daughter in law, she hadn’t inched away from the spot right behind the throne. Out of sight, out of mind was the way Dawn preferred to play the game when it came to court and any party thrown in the throne room. What had nearly forced her into attack mode had been Adrienne strolling by hanging on the arm of some low noble. It would seem she was starting to slip up and maybe the King would notice her true side. Dawn took far too much pleasure in seeing King Vaan ignore Adrienne and take his daughter in law’s hand for the first dance. Good, maybe things were on the slow road to change. Change would be very much welcomed in her eyes. They appeared to be whispering things but she didn’t bother ease dropping between the music and everyone else around her murmuring it would have been impossible. Instead her eyes were once again scoping out the throne room, taking note of who was there and who was missing. It wasn’t until the dance had ended and Duchess Rachel had politely excused herself and her mate that she saw something that began to boil her blood. Not even in the corner of the room, where she might have over looked it because she didn’t feel like moving, was a guard, Anton, under her command completely ignoring his position and surrounds to flirt, touch, and practically feel up a noble lady. Growling low under her breath, she slipped through the shadows of the room until she came right up behind the idiot. If he had been paying attention he might have spotted her much sooner but instead his eyes were glued to the noble woman’s chest. “I have a low tolerance for morons who acting without thinking.” Dawn reached out to wrap her hand around his throat from behind. Her nails began to dig into the underling’s neck until it started to draw blood forcing him to gasp out in pain. “This is not the place for you to be jerking off in the middle of a party you really weren’t invited to party at.” Her voice was lower than normal, something anyone who’d spent time around the Captain to look out for when she was really pissed off. If she was causing a scene, she didn’t fucking care. The noble woman’s face had completely been washed clean of color and Dawn didn’t even bat an eyelash at her. Her concern was on the guard who should have been GUARDING the throne room doors, not playing seven minutes in heaven in the middle of the dance floor. “You will leave this room immediately; you will run around the perimeter of the palace until I come kick your ass.” Anton could do nothing but give a half nod with his throat still in the iron choke hold which only then did Dawn release him. Her eyes followed him all the way up to the point he ran out of the throne room leaving her to deal with whatever impression he might have left behind on the courtiers.

It had not escaped his notice that his ever faithful captain was in the room. Dawn was never that far from his side, one of the few constants in his life. Forever protecting him from the shadows but still Vaan knew where she was, her scent was imprinted to memory.
His eyes followed Rachel as she left his side and the dance floor, collecting her tired husband, taking him out of the throne room. There was no objection on his part , his son needed a long rest which was why he granted them both a holiday away from court. Her scent hit him, Dawn was on the move.
His eyes scanned the room, looking for her. His eyes soon found her and she was not alone. The sight amuse the king, she had another member of the guard by the throat. This was another example of why she was the perfect candidate of the job of his protector. However Vaan knew he would have to intervene before it took a turn for the worst.
Leaving the dance floor, he headed towards Dawn. Sliding up next to the shocked looking Lady Elisa. "Bravo Captain" He chuckled, always finding amusement in the anger of a lady of her caliber. "Good evening Lady Elisa, I believe your husband is looking for you now my mistress has left the room" His voice dropped, showing the subtle anger he held for her husband for touching what was his. At the end of the day Adrienne was still his mistress even though she acted childish and petty over silly little things like the first dance.
Elisa quickly left, heading to off to find her husband and report that the king was not pleased with his actions this evening. "I do enjoy how you control of underlings Dawn but I would like to see how you dance" This was not a command or order but an open invitation to dance with him. Normally he would not have thought of asking her to dance but it felt right this particular evening.
Vaan was now in the mood for dancing, he hoped she would see what he was offering her and not brush it off as not correct procedure for a King and his captain.

Taking a deep breath in, Dawn collected her cold demeanor and easily kept it in place through the stares she was being thrown. They honestly should have known by then she didn’t tolerate slackers or lazy bums under her command. She hadn’t become the captain by being a sweet loving motherly figure to the men and babying them from sun up to sun down when they were sent back home on school buses. Sweet didn’t get a female lycan in her position anywhere but fired, laughed at, and completely forgotten about in the years to come. Rolling back her shoulders, she eased the tense muscles she’d been ready to use if Anton had decided to be an idiot by fighting back. Thankfully, it hadn’t come to anything more than her nicking his skin. That thought caused her to look down at her nails and ‘tsk’ seeing the blood under her dark purple nail polish. There was a reason she never did much beauty work, someone was already fucking up to the point she had to kick them around and ended up cracking the polish one way or another. Her tongue made short work of lapping up the blood that had already begun to cake under her nails.
The voice which normally sent her heart racing when she wasn’t expecting him to appear only seemed to force a dark expression to be casted over her features. She found nothing amusing about having to dig her claws into a fellow guard because he couldn’t keep his penis in check for a few hours. Her eyes flicked to the Lady finally recognized her and who her husband was, which only made her want to slap the woman even more. The anger in Vaan’s voice while speaking about the woman leaving to go find her husband would have cooled a normal lycan’s blood, instead she only grew more sure of her need to stand up for his honor when Lady Adrienne was playing him as a fool. The woman didn’t care about him aside from some place to gain money and power from. Dawn was more than pleased as Lady Elisa hurried away to locate her husband already on the prowl for another female to take Adrienne’s place.
The odd remark by the King had her mouth parting and closing, completely confused by what he was trying to say. A faint spark of color rose up in her cheeks while staring straight into his eyes and quickly finding it was incredibly difficult to look away. “I’m hardly dress to dance, Your highness.” Not that she couldn’t dance in her high heels but it was just her way of saying he might want to rethink his proposal of dancing together. Dancing meant getting closer than they normally were anyways, getting closer meant gossip being spread around the court that something was going on between them when nothing was. However, the light in Vaan’s eyes was hard to say no to, it wasn’t everyday she was asked to join him in a dance and Lady Adrienne had fled the room. And for the love of Luna, she wanted to be close to him without having to feel so far away from him. Her sister wolf was practically whining at how much restraint was placed over her in not being allowed to touch Vaan in a simple friendly way.
“I can’t deny you something that simple.” There was no stopping the large, bright smile that formed over Dawn’s lips while looking at Vaan. In the back of her mind, she hoped she didn’t end up regretting this small decision. Her hand rose up for him to take and lead the way back to the dance floor.

Some would look upon this as a sign for things to come between the captain and the King. Some would see this as an opening to get their child upon the empty throne next to Vaan. Others would disapprove of the King's actions but that did not matter to Vaan not now at least.
It had not escape his notice, the way her tongue lapped up blood from her finger nails. It bordered on erotic in his mind, it sent a wave of lust straight through him. This was not the time nor place for such emotions, especially one like this one. Lust was so dirty but yet exciting at the same time, it was something only his mistress brought out of him. However Dawn was now having that effect upon him but there was definitely more under this lust of his.
"Maybe so but in my opinion you look lovely" He did not mean to compliment her, it was only intended for his thoughts but the words just slipped out of his mouth. What was she doing to him? He had no answer but he would think over this later on when he was truly alone.
Childish delight shone brightly in his eyes, his smile widened oh this was a pleasant turn in events. Vaan feared his evening would end up being a terrible bore but thankful it had not. The feeling of her hand in his was just...perfect. It felt right, the way it fit against his like two pieces of a jigsaw. Softly he lead her towards the dance floor, ignoring the piercing jealous and surprised gazes of men and women alike.
Gossip would be flowing like a river through the halls of the court this time tomorrow morning. Once more he commanded the band to play, a slower more intimate tune left their instruments as they began to play, to entertain the many courtiers.
Smirking, enjoying the atmosphere around him. Damon was not a wallflower but was simply waiting for the right moment, the right person to approach. Court was an easy place to find someone to take to his bed but it did not matter whether it was male or female, the omega was game and up for it. He watched nobles come and go. It was terribly amusing to watch the royal whore lose her rag before storming out like a spoiled child who had lost her favorite toy.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a well dressed young woman standing all by herself. The challenge had presented itself, the game was afoot. Pushing himself off the wall, he headed towards her with a confident bounce in his step.
"All alone ma'am? I hate to see a woman by herself at an event like this one" He said, his tone was charming to the point that it smoothed his words thickly. "Where are my manner, I'm Damon Moreau" Quickly he scolded himself for his mistake of not introducing him before going straight in with the charm assault. He did not who she was but that did not matter. Elina Cali was going to be his next conquest, the next notch in his bed post.

There were few words for what Dawn thought was going through Vaan’s head by asking her to dance. This wasn’t an empty room where they could dance without strange looks by his court or even a small gathering of his close but few friends. There was very little room for her to crack a joke about them dancing together with over a dozen different eyes resting on her head. The throne room was full of fool hearted women hoping to have a moment of the King’s time to gain his attention and maybe a crown. For her, she truly didn’t care a damn about the crown, the throne, or the money. What she did care about was something she hated giving voice to as if it might make it even more powerful than before.
Dawn blinked at the compliment, her face gave away how unsure she was about it. When had been the last time she was complimented by someone outside of her family? It had been long enough that she had forgotten how to handle the situation. Swallowing, she tried not to appear like some scared doe about to leap away but it was rather hard with her heart beating in her ears and fifty thoughts racing through her brain at once. “And there comes the Niall male charm. It should come with its own warning label, but thank you.” A smirk appeared on her lips while softly shaking her head forcing her dark curls to bounce around her head softly. None of that prevented her hand from becoming intertwined with his while he lead to the dance floor, not intertwined like fingers laced together but more like a simple hand being held. Any thought of the how nicely his hand felt wrapped around hers was shoved straight out her mind since that mind set left her far too open for an attack, far too distracted from protecting Vaan.
“Your highness.” There was a clear warning in her voice at the particular tone being played. Why did he have to put her in such a terrible position? It was bad enough everyone knew his relationship with Adrienne was on the rocks but it was worse that he was making it seem like he was getting some on the side by his own damn guard. She hated herself for not being able to say no to him. And she hated him for putting her heart through hell. Honestly, why did he have to make her look like some woman he was using at night, because no matter what way it was viewed right then, it looked just like that. She was use to blending in with the shadows, staying out of his way at events like these. Her intentions had nothing to do with being in the spotlight and she’d hoped with all the time they’d spend together Vaan would know that. For a moment, she pondered how she would ever explain any of this if she ever found a male to be her mate. The way life was going for her, finding a mate that wasn’t the man she was already looking at seemed dull and very depressing.
Those two words were about the extent of Dawn’s protest against dancing with him. She hadn’t been kidding about not being able to deny him the simple request. Her heels clicked against the floor drawing even more attention to her then she wanted right then. But she didn’t allow it to show on her face how strange the situation was. To do that would allow room for anyone to think the Captain wasn’t prepared for everything. Coming to a stop, she stood before Vaan not as his guard but as a dance partner, even if her eyes were shifting off to the sides every now and then. Slowly, her arm rose up to place her palm on his shoulder as her other remained in his hand slightly extended in the air.

Elina stood on the sidelines for a moment, brown eyes watching as Captain Roseburn joined the king in a dance. It was about time. There was obviously something there.Especially now that they were dancing together. Everyone was talking about it. How Vaan obviously had his eyes on Dawn. There was even gossip among the servants of Dawn, who is usually known as a cold-hearted bitch around the palace, showing a small hint of interest in the king. She watched in amusement as the two danced about. They made a good couple. They looked good together. And Dawn was what the King really needed... not someone like Adrienne.
She looked up as she felt eyes on her and the presence of someone else. She met his gaze and smirked softly. "I'm sure it's a problem you planned to solve isn't it, M'lord?" She licked her lips as those doe eyes of hers looked him up and down. He was Lucian Yale's omega. A member of one of the five houses. And just as bad as the Prince when it came to women. Why did she have to always attract the womanizers? Surely there was a man who wasn't a selfish pig who slept with any girl who would spread her legs for him.
A mental sigh escaped her head as she studied him, keeping her calm, polite manner. She smiled at him and cursied for a moment before glancing to the dance floor as more dancers began to join the king as his dance partner. "I'm Baroness Elina Cali." She said as she met his gaze once more, a polite smile on her lips. "Would you care for a dance, m'lord?" He may have been an omega, but he was still a member of one of the five houses, which meant he was ranked above her. It would be very unwise to displease him considering the power of the court he did hold.

Of course he was going to be the one to solve this particular problem. After all dancing was the vertical version of the horizontal tango between the sheets. Damon was a demon between the sheets or that was what he had been told by his various past lovers.
"Indeed I am my lady" He playfully responded, his gaze moving up and down her frame, taking in every inch of her form. She was definitely something special in his opinion, the omega looked forward to unwrapping this gift. He was excited like a child at Christmas when they received their presents.
There was no denying that Damon Moreau was a pig but never a selfish lover. The men and women who found their way into his bed, always come back from more. Finally he had her name, now all he needed to do was seduce her into leaving with him.
"What's in a name? that which we call a rose, By any other name would smell as sweet" He recited to her. It seemed like the perfect thing to say to a rose like Elina. Some women like flowery words, other like men who could quote lines from their favorite plays or books. Memory was one of Damon's strengths, he could easily remember certain phases and lines to swept anyone off their feet and out of their clothes.
"I could love to dance with you Elina" he held out a hand for her to take, in order to lead her over the dance floor which had start to grow packed as eager couples started to float across the floor.
~~~~~~~~
Vaan had not planned this dance, he had not planned to even speak with his captain this evening. Normally it was Adrienne who kept him company most of the evening. Either seated by his side, just casually speaking or dancing with him around the floor. "It's just one dance Dawn" He tried to prevent any kind of argument starting, since he was used to disagreements with his mistress on a daily basis.
Dancing with Dawn was a world apart from dancing with Adrienne. His mistress would press herself against him as they swayed, when he dipped her to the floor her leg found its way to his waist. Adrienne made it look like they were having sexual intercourse right there on the floor as they danced. This was more innocent but did not lack the obvious spark between captain and King. It was clear to anyone who observed the two of them, there was something building.
Adrienne was in danger of losing her lover. It didn't cross Vaan's mind, he was just lost in the moment, enjoying the feeling of Dawn in his arms. The smile on his face widened, he was happy dancing with her. Dawn understood him like no-other. However this moment would end, they would go back to being King and Captain soon. For now Vaan would enjoy dancing with his friend.
The night was turning into something very interesting to say the least. Normally, she kept off to the side of the court, out of sight and out of mind. That had been the plan until one guard had decided to not listen to an unspoken order about guard conduct while court was in session. “Then lead, sire. I think I can pretend to be a normal she-wolf for one dance and follow you.” Of course, she would have followed him no matter the situation. Dawn didn’t want to fight with Vaan, not when he was so close to her. Her sister wolf was far too content to stay in his embrace for the rest of the evening. Swallowing, she tried to lower her guard enough for her to give him control. It was harder to allow someone to take command when she was so use to giving commands.
Dawn didn’t want to even think about Adrienne and how she should have been dancing with Vaan. She’d seen more than enough of what she considered dancing while in the king’s arms. It was rather disgusting and most times she was forced to look elsewhere to avoid throwing up or punching the lady. Instead of allowing his mistress to take over her thoughts, Dawn focused on Vaan’s eyes, on that curve of his lips, and the way his body felt as they swayed gently. Already, she felt a heat rising up in her cheeks while staring at him as they danced. There was no stopping the pounding of her heart knowing that something forbidden was growing in her chest every time she spent more time with the king. For so long she had been able to ignore it because they never said anything personal to each other, but as she had opened up to him and learned things about Vaan her feelings for him were becoming harder to fake not having.
The music softened until it came to a complete stop. Sighing, not in relief but sad that it had to end; she gave him a gentle smile, struggling to pull her Captain persona back on. Life wasn’t so easy that she could be something more for Vaan even though she wished it. “Thank you for the dance, Your Highness.” Pulling back, Dawn raised Vaan’s hands to her lips and brushed a soft kiss over his knuckles in a way of saying thank you and that she would have to return to her ranking as his Captain since the dance was over. Taking another step back, her heel clicked on the tile knowing she needed to return to her spot in the shadows, there were far too many eyes watching them, but she wasn’t sure she had the willpower right then after the sweet moment. Dawn should have slapped herself thinking there was something more between Vaan and her then just being friends.
Of course she was. She supposed she would just let him entertain the idea that he had any chance with her even though he didn't. She was bored and needed something to do. Why not entertain him a little before she totally shot him down.
Poetry. Somehow that didn't surprise her. Why did men always think you could romance a woman through poetry? It wasn't romantic if the man was known for sleeping around. She said nothing though. Only grinned and studied him thoughtfully. "Tell me, M'lord. Do you make it a habit of randomly reciting poetry to beautiful women?" She asked with a teasing grin. Of course he did. He was a womanizer. She didn't understand why the womanizers were all flocking to her lately. What was she some sort of forbidden fruit? Just because she refused to sleep with womanizers, they flocked to her? She didn't know, but she didn't find it very amusing.
Elina took his hand and allowed him to lead her out onto the dance floor. She would let him think he was getting under her skirts for a while. It would make the night more interesting. That was for certain. She smiled faintly, meeting his gaze as she fell into position on the dance floor, waiting for him to lead them through the dance. Once he started them off she followed with him with ease. Dancing and music have always been the lessons she took to easily as a child. She loved to play on her piano and she loved music, so if nothing else came from this night at least she got a good dance.
